Abstract: A system for displaying information on a display screen of a computing device, where the digital content is of the size that exceeds the display screen size for display has a display logic that parses the digital content into multiple screen views, each screen view is sized for the screen and an orientation, and stores these multiple screen views in the memory. The display logic selects and displays a single screen view of the multiple screen views on the screen overlaid with a transparent miniature view map of the multiple screen views with the view map highlighting the specific screen view being displayed. Touch-selecting a specific screen view from the view map brings up that view for display from the storage memory, with an updated view map, enabling a user to simultaneously see a view of the digital content and the size of the content.

Abstract: Database messages, such as queries, may be managed to process data based at least in part on performance characteristics. For example, a database query associated with a first database format may be received. The first database format may be one of a plurality of database formats. A second database format may be determined based at least in part on a performance characteristic of the second database format being above a threshold. The second database format may be determined as a result of the received database query. Additionally, the second database format may also be one of the plurality of different database formats. Data communicated by the received database query may be processed according to the second database format.

Abstract: An improved copy and paste experience includes capturing information about open applications including a screenshot of each of the open applications shown in a viewable area of the open applications; in response to receiving a copy command while the user is interacting with a first application, presenting the screenshots of the other open applications to the user for selection; in response to the user selecting one of the screenshots corresponding to a second application, displaying visual content segments from the second application; in response to receiving a user selection of two or more of the visual content segments, copying the selected visual content segments; and inserting the selected visual content segments into the first application such that original spatial relations between the visual content segments from the second application are maintained when the visual content segments are inserted into the first application.

In some embodiments, a background upload process manages connectivity of the user device to the remote server and staging file uploads in a disconnected mode for automatic processing when connectivity is restored.

Abstract: An interactive 3D presentation system that utilizes a collection of shots or motion views where each shot can include a combination of a camera view and camera action. A visual transition, such as a fade, can be presented at the end and beginning of sequential shots. Between the end point of a first shot and the beginning of a sequential shot, the scene is not shown. The system allows interactive authoring and/or viewing a 3D visual experience composed by defining a collection of shots where each shot is a combination of a camera view point of interest (POI) plus a camera motion path. The POI is placed on the path in a variety of ways where it can be at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of the path. A collection of predefined, cinematically styled camera motion paths, such as a crane and track shots, can be made available to the author. The pacing and duration of each shot can be adjusted.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling a computing device using gesture inputs. The gesture inputs may be operative to move screens corresponding to applications executing on the handheld computing device from one display to another. Additionally, a multi portion gesture may be used to target different screens. For example, a first portion of the gesture may maintain or “pin” a screen in a display such that a second portion of the gesture is operative to move a different screen behind the pinned application.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method which allows for the seamless integration of the sending mechanism with the media acquiring mechanism of a portable device. In this manner the end-user has instant access to media sharing with complete control over how the media is shared. This integration is accomplished by presenting to the user a series of screens that are available directly from the media creation applications (e.g. cameras or audio recorders) and media viewing applications (e.g. photo galleries or screen savers) on the device. When a photo (or other media) is captured or viewed, a series of pre-established processing options, including on-device uses for the media, internet services and accounts, email addresses and/or phone numbers to which the media can be sent are presented to the user. Some options require no further user interaction.

Abstract: A system and method for dynamically displaying structurally dissimilar thumbnail images generated from multiple pages of an electronic document based on a display size of a display device is disclosed. In one embodiment, one or more candidate images are selected based on a generated metric for dissimilarity for each one of multiple images associated with multiple pages of an electronic document, where the metric for dissimilarity for each one of the multiple images is generated by comparing each image of the multiple images with substantially previous images of the multiple images. Then, the selected one or more candidate images are dynamically displayed as structurally dissimilar thumbnail images based on a display size of a display device.

Abstract: To improve the consumer experience with portable electronic devices, a user interface combines the use of capacitive sensors with tactile sensors in an input device. When a user places a finger, stylus, or other input instrument near a given key button, a capacitive sensor causes the display to display temporarily an indication of the function of that key in an enlarged format. The user may then press the associated key button to activate the desired function. In one exemplary embodiment, the capacitive sensor fixes the functionality to the function indicated in the display. In this embodiment, a tactile input applied to any key, whether the correct key, multiple keys, or a single incorrect key, results in activating the function indicated in the display as a result of the capacitive input.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a user interface for mobile devices enable data and services available through the mobile device to be represented as a set of tiles maintained in a display space. The tiles provide a snapshot of the current state of content available through the mobile device without requiring any interaction by the user. The tiles and display space are customizable and can be dynamically updated to display content to a user. In addition, tiles can provide functionality, including simple tasks to a user without requiring the user to navigate away from the tile display space. Tiles can also provide quick access to start software applications. Tiles can be organized in the display space by the user or the tiles can be automatically grouped based upon associated metadata.

Abstract: In a method for displaying information, particularly in a vehicle, at least one object for conveying a portion of gross information is represented graphically in at least one first display mode with the aid of a display mounted, e.g., in the vehicle, and as a function of a control signal of a control device, graphic data are generated which alter the representation of the graphical object such that the graphical object changes over to at least one second display mode. For example, a parallax effect can be applied that responds to current cursor position, scroll position, scroll velocity, orientation of the display device (detected, for example, by position- and/or motion-sensing mechanisms), and/or any other environmental conditions. As another example, thumbnail images can be refocused, and/or a viewpoint for an image can be adjusted, in response to a user clicking on or tapping on particular elements within such images.

According to one of the techniques, identifying a person in a target image involves displaying, within a graphical user interface, an image that depicts one or more faces. One or more faces are automatically detected within the image. A user provides input that selects a face of the one or more faces to be a currently-selected face. A set of images are selected from a collection of images, where the set of images includes images that closely match the currently-selected face. Concurrently with display of the currently-selected face, each image in the set of images is displayed. Within the graphical user interface, a control is provided. The control enables a user to select a target image from the set of images. In response to detecting that the user has selected a target image using the control, the currently-selected face is associated with a person to which the target image corresponds.

Abstract: An “Interactive Word Lattice” provides a user interface for interacting with and selecting user-modifiable paths through a lattice-based representation of alternative suggested text segments in response to a user's text segment input, such as phrases, sentences, paragraphs, entire documents, etc. More specifically, the user input is provided to a trained paraphrase generation model that returns a plurality of alternative text segments having the same or similar meaning as the original user input. An interactive graphical lattice-based representation of the alternative text segments is then presented to the user. One or more words of each alternative text segment represents a “node” of the lattice, while each connection between nodes represents a lattice “edge. Both nodes and edges are user modifiable. Each possible path through the lattice corresponds to a different alternative text segment. Users select a path through the lattice to select an alternative text to the original input.

Next, each of the separate image content is interspersed in an arrangement so that content overlaps in with each other and at least some of the image content is automatically resized to concurrently present image content in a plurality of different image sizes and in a film strip arrangement. The image content is presented from each of the information sources along with the source indicator in a film strip arrangement.

Abstract: Embodiments automatically create dynamic thumbnail images corresponding to accessed web pages. Thumbnails, snapshots, or other images are generated for each of a plurality of the web pages (e.g., viewed or visited by a user, or pre-fetched by a browser). The images are provided to the user as, for example, active tiles in a browser tab or on a desktop background. As content on the web pages updates, the images are re-created and visually distinguished from other images to enable the user to quickly identify the images that correspond to updated web pages. The user interacts with the images to view the corresponding web pages.

Abstract: In various example embodiments, systems and methods for providing visual state comparisons is provided. In example embodiments, parameters are received from a user device of a user. The parameters indicate different browser/operating system combinations for a visual comparison of screenshots of a state for the different browser/operating system combinations. Based on the different browser/operating system combinations indicated by the parameters, the screenshots along with corresponding metadata for each indicated browser/operating system combination are retrieved. A user interface that visually compares at least two retrieved screenshots is provided to the user device. The user interface includes a display of the corresponding metadata for the at least two retrieved screenshots.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for engaging and displaying a visual table of contents in electronic touch sensitive devices. The user can engage the visual table of contents by, for example, performing an activation gesture, such as an inward two-contact pinch gesture. The visual table of contents may display the paginated content to the user as a grid of image tiles, each image corresponding to a page or spread of pages. Each page of content may be accompanied by its appropriate page number. The visual table of contents may display the paginated content as page spreads, wherein each page is paired with its opposite facing page. The user may scroll through the visual table of contents if the device screen is not large enough to display all of the pages on a single screen. Selecting a page from the table of contents may display the selected page to the user.

The channel selection canvas allows a user to preview and choose video signals to be watched. A channel selection canvas can also display video thumbnails for security cameras, baby monitors, video phones and the like.
