Abstract: Systems and methods have been developed for searching an index by category. More specifically, systems and methods have been developed for launching a search program that sends to a browser a search address associated with a selected search category for transmission to a remote computing device.

Abstract: A text input method and apparatus of a portable terminal supporting a virtual keypad including a plurality of character keys are provided. The method includes displaying, when a text input mode is activated, a virtual keypad including a plurality of key regions, each key region being assigned plural letters, compounding, when a touch movement event is detected on the virtual keypad, letters assigned to a first key region to which a touch-down event is made with letters assigned to a second key region to which a touch-up event is made into compound letters, displaying the compound letters, and inputting, when a compound letter is selected, the compound letter selected.

Abstract: Dynamic icons associated with remote content provide one or more pieces of information to a user by changing the appearance of the icon based on changes to data of a data source associated with the icon. For example, when the icon represents data available from a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed, the icon may be represented as an image extracted from the RSS feed, which may change when the RSS feed is updated or includes new content. In some embodiments, the icon may by dynamically updated based on user information and/or device information, such as an icon for a weather forecast that is based at least in part on a location of a device and thus directs the icon to show imagery and/or information based at least in part on the respective location.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to a graphical user interface to be displayed on a display apparatus, the graphical user interface comprising an addressable window which is assigned to a selectable object, where the window has a list with a plurality of buttons, where there is assigned to each button an action of a particular type in relation to the object assigned to the window, where there is assigned to one button a formation action which can be performed with elements from a plurality of element types, where the performance of the formation action requires the selection of the number of elements to be used for the formation action from a maximum number of elements for at least one element type. A further formation action can be assigned to a further button, where the element types and the number of elements to be used for the further formation action are determined by the element types and elements used in the last performed formation action.

Abstract: A framed user interface operating on a computer or similar system may allow a user to select certain interactive instances contained within the framed user interface. The user of the computer system may modify the framed user interface to suit individual or group preferences. The user may select the user interactive instances through the framed user interface and then the framed user interface may act on that selection. Once selected, the user interactive instance may be available in a workspace area for user manipulation. The framed user interface may allow for logical organization of various types of user instances available on a typical computer or consumer electronics platforms. It also may enable ready-availability of certain user interactive instances and instant startup by having them perennially loaded in a random access memory and executable without the need to be later launched or initiated from permanent memory.

Abstract: A mobile terminal may include a display to display at least one icon, a memory to store information related to icons, and a controller to perform, when a first icon collides with a second icon, a control operation associated with the collided icons according to a type and/or an attribute of the first and second icons.

Abstract: A control method of an electronic apparatus is provided, including displaying a pointing graphical user interface (GUI) which performs a pointing function in a pointing control mode, converting the pointing GUI into a four-directional GUI to control four-directional movement of a predetermined object and changing to the four-directional control mode when a predetermined event occurs, and controlling the four-directional movement of the predetermined object according to manipulation of the four-directional GUI.

Abstract: A portable terminal having display buttons for displaying images corresponding to specific functions through keys pressed by a user, and a method of inputting functions of the portable terminal using the display buttons. The portable terminal includes: a controller which receives signals corresponding to a user key pressed from the plurality of input buttons and outputs image data to be displayed on each of the plurality of input buttons using the received signals; and a plurality of buttons for inputting a key from a user and outputting a signal corresponding to the key pressed, and for receiving the image data from the controller and displaying the received image data.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a button mapping method comprising comparing an image difference between images before and after a keyboard event, the images including a first and second version of buttons in a menu, respectively; constructing by the processor a button map based on the comparison, the button map comprising button information for at least two buttons in the menu; receiving one or more selection signals corresponding to one or more non-keyboard events; and translating the one or more selection signals into one or more keyboard events based on the button map, wherein the button in the menu is selected based on the translation.

Abstract: An adaptive region system can include an adaptive region module and a display module. The adaptive region module can include a mini region button panel module capable of generating a mini region button panel having multiple mini region buttons, a view panel module capable of generating a view panel having multiple view buttons, and a region panel module capable of generating a region panel having multiple mini regions. The display module can visually display the mini region button panel, the view panel, and the region panel.

Abstract: An electronic device of the present invention includes display modules having display screens, respectively, touch panels that are provided on the display screens and accept touch input, and a selecting module for selecting two or more contents about which touch input is accepted by the touch panels when a plurality of contents are displayed on the display modules. When the selected contents are reselected, the selecting module cancels the selection. Further, a program of an electronic device according to the present invention executes a process for selecting two or more contents about which the touch input is accepted by the touch panels when the plurality of contents are displayed on the display modules, and a process for canceling the selection when the selected contents are reselected.

Abstract: A user interface device for controlling a display portion for displaying a menu screen including a list of buttons and a cursor includes an operation input device, and a display control portion. The operation input device inputs an instruction direction corresponding to a user operation. The display control portion controls the display portion to display a shape of the operation input device as the cursor and to move the cursor among the list based on the instruction direction. The display control portion superimposes at least one guide image on the cursor. The guide image represents an operable direction of the operation input device and function of a button. A user interface device includes a display portion, an operation input device, and a display control portion. A non-transitory tangible computer readable storage medium storing a computer-executable program to cause a computer to perform is provided.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of identifying and selecting characters from among a plurality of characters. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a computer processor electronically enables display of primary and secondary characters within a first region on a touch-sensitive electronic screen. Each secondary character has an associated primary character. Selection buttons within a second region on the screen are arranged to correspond with the positions of the primary characters. The computer processor electronically enables selection of a primary character by receiving input resulting from contact of the selection button that corresponds to the selected primary character.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide for methods, systems and computer program products for an integrated service framework with a suite of products that provide a development environment and common framework for programming within an operating system. The integrated service framework provides a service controller that allows a programmer or an administrator to control, monitor, query, troubleshoot, and resolve any issues that occur with the services. The service controller provides service interfaces that are completely configurable without the need for programing code to display the individual service interfaces. The service controller provides the service interfaces using the text from a configuration file populated by a user. The user can utilize the service interfaces provided by the service controller to send commands to services to start, stop, pause, and resume the services, monitor information about the services, and query the services to determine if the services are working properly.

Abstract: A request to display a portion of a full-screen content overlay options menu of a multiple media player device is detected by the multiple media player device that represents less than all of the full-screen content overlay options menu. A media type of content media currently accessed by the multiple media player device is determined. A current setting status of an available adjustment of the multiple media player device associated with the portion of the full-screen content overlay options menu based upon the determined media type of content media currently accessed by the multiple media player device is determined. A first graphical menu pane of the full-screen content overlay options menu, including the current setting status of the available adjustment, is displayed over full-screen content on a display. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention allow users to post or publish audio information to a destination on a digital network. A particular embodiment provides a user interface for recording and uploading a short comment, remark, song segment, sound effect or any other audio portion. The comment can be sent directly to another user's device or can be published or uploaded to a network site, web page, user group or other location. A user interface allows organizing, reviewing, editing, tagging, transferring and other types of processing or manipulation in association with the audio portion to be transferred, or which has been received.

Abstract: A method for using a pen in an electronic device is provided, including: detecting a pen use event; and responsive to the pen use event, displaying, on a display of the electronic device, at least one virtual button which performs the same function as a physical button that is part of the electronic device; wherein the physical button of the electronic device comprises at least one of a mechanical switch and an optical switch.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for reminding and browsing related information of contacts, and a recording medium using the same are provided. In the present method, a communication device displays a contact list comprising at least one contact on a screen thereof. Meanwhile, the communication device checks whether each contact has unread related information and displays an indicating icon on the corresponding contact in the contact list when it is determined that the contact has related information unread, so as to remind a user of the communication device that the contact has unread related information.

Abstract: A system and method for interfacing a radiologist to a radiology system is disclosed. A signature code area may display input buttons that may be used to permit a radiologist to generate a radiology image report and to classify a finding of the radiology image report, assign an alert to the radiology image report, and generate a follow-up status for the radiology image report. Furthermore, a display of the radiology workflow statistics may be provided and contact information associated with a referring physician of a selected radiology image report may be provided.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for providing analytical information. The methods, systems, and apparatus include actions of providing code for a multi-selection widget. The widget includes multiple user-selectable controls aligned on a grid. The multiple user-selectable controls include a first set of one or more controls that are each associated with a different instance of a first level reporting period. The multiple user-selectable controls further include a second set of two or more controls that are each associated with a different instance of a second level reporting period that are shorter than the instances of the first level reporting period. The actions further include receiving a user selection of at least one control of the first set and at least one control of the second set and providing analytical information based on the user selection.

A choice of image adjustments is presented to a user of a data processing device. A user selection is received from among the choice of image adjustments at least one image adjustment that a user desires to apply to an area of interest of the image. The user selected image adjustment is applied to an entirety of an image. A preview of the user selected image adjustment applied to the entirety of the image is displayed. Also, user input comprising user selection of a brushing application is received. The user selected image adjustment is applied to the area of interest of the image and a remainder of the image is restored to a pre-adjustment state using the user selection of the brushing application.

Abstract: Expandable user interface menu techniques are described, including displaying a menu having a menu item, receiving an input indicating selection of the menu item, and expanding the menu, based on one or more parameters associated with the menu item, to present a structure configured to receive another input associated with the menu item, the menu item remaining displayed while the menu is expanded.

Abstract: A system and method are described herein that provide for dynamically controlling a chart visualized in a user interface by turning business objects visualized in the chart into clickable action buttons to trigger corresponding business actions. Business objects are retrieved from a backend server and displayed as visual representations in a chart rendered in a calendar application user interface. A user clicking or tapping a visual representation in the chart triggers a corresponding predefined action that has been customized in the connected system or backend server and is dynamically assigned to the chart control based on the business context of the calendar application.

Abstract: An example information-processing device includes: a display control unit that causes a display unit to display a button image assigned to a function, the button image being selectable by a user, and an object superimposed on the button image; a processing unit that performs a processing corresponding to the function when the button image displayed by the display unit is selected by a user; and a notification control unit that notifies a status of at least the processing performed by the processing unit by changing an appearance of the object displayed by the display unit.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and computer readable medium for writing data on a highly indestructible material is disclosed. A laser may write data on a first side of a highly indestructible material. The data may then be marked as non-rewriteable. The data may also be written on a second side of the highly indestructible material, with the second side being opposite the first side. The highly indestructible material may comprise a stainless steel storage medium.

Abstract: A toolbar is integrated within an application or provided as a standalone component that interfaces with an existing application. The toolbar detects events corresponding to the application and generates a toolbar display corresponding to the event. On loading of a particular webpage in a browser, the toolbar may generate a toolbar display comprising a set of functions to be made available to the user for that webpage. The toolbar may generate different displays for different webpages and different events such as a page load event or a tab change event. Additionally, when provided as a standalone component, the toolbar may generate different displays for different applications. User experience at the toolbar may be controlled through a remote server without extensive modification of the application.

Abstract: A method and system for rendering electronic document objects is provided in which a style matrix holds potential attribute values, and attribute references are used to address values in the style matrix. A mix of attribute references and actual attribute values may be used to make some attributes theme- and application-specific, and others theme- and application-independent. Further, a method for rendering a gallery of potential styles is provided. Additionally, a method for associating a style matrix with an electronic document application is provided. Finally, a computer-readable medium for storing a computer-interpretable data structure that identifies a matrix of style attribute types and style attribute values is provided.

Abstract: A method in a user interface, according to one embodiment, allows for the docking of window panels within a software application. A palette in the user interface can, in this embodiment, have three states: (i) the palette is open within a window panel; (ii) the palette is docked as a tab; and (iii) the palette is open in a area connected to the tab. User actions through the user interface can control transitions among these three states. Other methods are described, and systems and computer readable storage media are also described.

The human-machine interface system includes a communication interface configured to receive machine data from an aggregation server, a user interface configured to display graphical data to a user, and a processor coupled to the communication interface and the user interface. The processor is configured to process the machine data to produce first graphical data including a first human-machine interface including one or more tabs, transmit the first graphical data to the user interface for display, and detect a pointer indicating an interest over one of the one or more tabs. The processor is also configured to process the machine data to produce second graphical data including the first human-machine interface including an open drawer corresponding to the one of the one or more tabs, and transmit the second graphical data to the user interface for display.

Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to a portable electronic device that may utilize front input buttons capable of multiple settings on a front surface that may also include a display. The front input buttons may be ergonomically positioned to be easily accessible to the thumbs of a human operator. A rear surface of the portable electronic device may include one or more rear input buttons ergonomically positioned to be easily accessible to the fingers of a human operator when held. A graphical user interface (GUI) may be operative to display character or command input options for each of the rear input buttons. The character or command input options may be based on a particular setting of one of the front input buttons. A processor circuit may be operative to receive input from the front input buttons indicative of a particular setting and input from the rear input buttons. The input may be indicative of a character or command input option.

Abstract: Optical storage media often contain data structures for a menu suitable for selection of a title, a chapter, a parameter or others. Such menus usually comprise a number of buttons to be displayed, with each button having a state. Possible states of buttons are; e.g., “unselected”, “selected” or “activated”. According to the invention, the menu may contain buttons that can be selected through the keys on the remote control, but that don't have any images or text associated. This allows creating “invisible buttons” that automatically execute commands upon selection. Further, a sound or sound sequence; e.g., melody or click, may be associated to a buttons state, and may be played back when the button enters this state. Such menu data may be stored; e.g., on a Blu-ray disc.

Abstract: A method for generating an on-screen menu comprising menu buttons and other menu items, e.g. help text, is characterized in that one or more groups of menu buttons or menu items are defined, wherein a group comprises one or more menu buttons or menu items and has associated a defined area on the screen. A state is assigned to a button, the state being “enabled” or “disabled”, wherein only an enabled button or item may be displayed, and wherein within a group not more than one button or item may be enabled. The state of a button can be changed by commands associated with other buttons.

Abstract: A self-service terminal (SST) and a method of operating an SST are disclosed. The method comprises the steps of selecting a default characteristic for a service offered at the SST responsive to a normal press of a user button element associated with the service, indicating a plurality of selectable characteristics responsive to a long press of the user button element and selecting a chosen characteristic for the service responsive to a press of a user button element associated with one of said selectable characteristics.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for browsing media content and executing functions related to the media content are provided. Under the state that a collage image generated by combining a plurality of image elements corresponding respectively to a plurality of media contents is displayed, if a selection input is generated on the collage image, a preview window for a media content corresponding to a location of a point where the selection input is generated is configured to overlay the preview window on the collage image. If a function execution input is generated on the collage image, a representative function is performed using a media content corresponding to a location of a point where the function execution input is generated.

Abstract: A processing system may include an array of input/output (I/O) devices (e.g., an array of microphones, an array of antennas, etc.) A device array control program for the processing system may provide a user interface for controlling the array of I/O devices. The user interface may include an array of objects representing the array of I/O devices, as well as a set of controls near the array of objects. The controls may include a right handle, a left handle, and a gain handle. The left handle and the right handle may be moved by a user to control which I/O devices will be used, and the gain handle may be moved to control gain for at least one of the I/O devices. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A force directed graph may display time series data using a set of playback controls to pause, play, reverse, fast forward, slow down, or otherwise control the display of the time series data. The playback controls may be used in a real time or near real time application to which data sets are displayed and the speed with which the data sets may be displayed. In one architecture, the force directed graph may be deployed using a rendering engine that receives data and renders the data into a graph. A playback controller may send updates to the rendering engine according to user inputs from the playback controls.

Abstract: A toolbar in a client application such as a web browser may be miniaturized. The miniature toolbar annexes itself to a part of the chrome region of the client application, modifying the functionality of the annexed part. The annexed part may be a search box. At least a subset of the features of the toolbar is accessible from the miniature toolbar, but some toolbar features may not be accessible from the miniature toolbar. Some features of the miniature toolbar may replace some features of the annexed search box.

Abstract: A personal user control device suitable for use in cooperation with information systems, such as vehicle information systems, and methods for manufacturing and using same. The personal user control device provides a user-friendly interface system for interacting with the information system. Unlike conventional control devices, the user interface system includes no dedicated buttons and provides a customizable environment for interacting with the information system. When in communication with the information system, the personal user control device can automatically detect system status information, such as available system functionality, available viewing content, and/or a current system operation mode, of the information system and provides a user interface system that instinctively adapts for use with the information system in light of the detected system status information. The personal user control device thereby provides a versatile and intuitive manner for interacting with the information system.
