Abstract: Systems and methods for development of a land plan can include a user interface having a first display module for displaying tool buttons, the tool buttons operable to perform a function associated with a land plan, wherein a first tool button of the tool buttons is operable to define an element of the land plan, a second display module for displaying a set of tool box buttons, each tool box button operable to cause the first display module to display different sets of the tool buttons for performing functions associated with the land plan, and a third display module for displaying information relating to the element of the land plan. The user interface can also include a planning window for generating a graphical representation of the land plan, the graphical representation of the land plan including the element.

Abstract: A graphical user interface for a telephone system includes programmable buttons which may be customized for individual users or groups of users. The focus location checking unit determines a location of a focus located on a specific menu icon. The background screen management unit changes the view point of a background screen to a direction in which the focus is moved. The icon management unit changes the size of a menu icon based on the location of the focus.

Abstract: This is directed to controlling media playback based on particular touch gestures detected by a touch-sensing interface. The electronic device can identify particular touch inputs, such as combinations of tapping and holding a touch sensitive surface, or circular motions. In response to detecting a particular touch gesture, the electronic device can perform a playback operation specifically associated with the detected touch gesture. To provide a consistent user interface with the device, some of the particular touch gestures can match other inputs provided using a button, for example a button integrated on a wired headset. In such an embodiment, the same combination of tapping and holding a touch input and pressing and holding a button can control the same electronic device operations.

Initially, aspects of a user-initiated input applied at the top-level control button are detected. These aspects may include an actuation location and a distance of a drag-movement therefrom. If a distance of the drag-movement at the touchscreen display is greater than a threshold distance in a particular radial direction from the actuation location, the user-initiated input is considered a drag-operation. Typically, a set of trigger boundaries are constructed based on system metrics to assist in disambiguating the drag-operation from a tap-type operation. If a drag-operation is identified, the presentation action is invoked; otherwise, a principle action associated with the top-level control button (e.g., manipulating content of an application) may be invoked.

When a processing flow includes an unexecutable process, the apparatus transmits a request for confirming whether or not the processing flow is executable, to other image processing apparatuses, and receives a response indicating that the processing flow is executable, from any of the other apparatuses. The apparatus determines a transfer destination of the processing flow from the other image processing apparatuses. The apparatus generate from the processing flow a first cooperation processing flow including executable processes and a second cooperation processing flow including at least one unexecutable process, and transfers the second cooperation processing flow to the determined transfer destination. The apparatus displays an execution button for executing the first cooperation processing flow.

Abstract: A method for visiting a results page of a time-varying result set of a search query. The method includes displaying to a user a list of results belonging to the visited page, each result comprising a hyperlink to a document, a result being de-emphasized if the URL used in its hyperlink is present in a set of URLs of results that are deemed to have been seen by the user. When the user clicks or taps a page menu button to navigate to a different page, the method further includes adding to that set the URLs of the results of the visited page. Page menu buttons are highlighted if they pertain to pages containing results deemed to have been seen by the user.

Abstract: A user-activatable dashboard (also referred to as a unified interest layer) contains any number of user interface elements, referred to herein as “widgets,” for quick access by a user. In response to a command from a user, the dashboard is invoked and the widgets are shown on the screen. The user can activate the dashboard at any time, causing the dashboard to temporarily replace the existing user interface display on the user's screen. Once the dashboard has been activated, the user can interact with any or all of the widgets, and can configure the dashboard by adding, deleting, moving, or configuring individual widgets as desired. When the user wishes to return to the normal user interface he or she was working with, the user issues a command causing the dashboard to be dismissed. Once the dashboard has been dismissed, the previous user interface state is restored, allowing the user to resume normal interactions with the operating system.

According to the present invention, there are advantages in that more various menus can be displayed in different manners, and the configuration of the input unit is simplified and thus can be more conveniently used.

Abstract: Various technologies and techniques are disclosed that improve data searching on mobile devices. A facet-based search application is provided that has a filter region, a results region, a facet navigation region, and a menu region. A user applies a facet-based filter to a set of data by selecting a number on a keypad or other area that correlates spatially to a filter option in the facet navigation region. A set of data in the results region is updated based on the applied facet-based filter. The user can also apply a freeform text filter to the data by selecting one or more characters for which to search. The data displayed in the results region is updated based on the applied freeform text filter. When input is received from the user to save the applied filter, an attribute label is displayed as a query term in the filter region.

Abstract: A method creates cover pages for news themes, topics, and stories, with elements to allow viewing more information from the theme, topic, or story. A database of stories is provided, comprising text, images, and possibly other web-accessible content. For a theme-based cover page, a theme is selected, and topics relevant to that theme are chosen. Search strings generated from the topics are used to search the database for matching stories. Representative images for the matching stories are then chosen from the database, and headlines are created based on the story content. For a topic-based cover page, a topic is selected and is used to search the database for matching stories. The cover page, comprising the image and information about the theme, topic, or story, is then created and displayed, with clickable elements to view more information about the theme, topic, or story.

Abstract: A web application makes a registration request of a web top button to a web browser. The web application designates the title to be displayed on the button, the access URL to the web application, and the position of the icon which the web application has. The web browser makes the button registration request to a window manager in response to the button registration request. The window manager registers the button in response to the request and displays the button together with the icon.

Abstract: A method for operating a user interface for switching between computer applications is provided. The method may include displaying first, second and third navigation controls. The first navigation control may include entity selectors, the second navigation control may include application selectors, and the third navigation control may include sub-application selectors. The application selectors may be associated with the entities in the first navigation control and the sub-application selectors may be associated with the application selectors. An application associated with sub-application selector may be launched upon selecting the sub-application selector. The state of an application may be stored and retrieved upon switching between applications so as to enable fast switching between applications.

Abstract: Method, article, apparatus and computer system facilitating the easy and intuitive inputting of a desired graphical object into an electronic system from a large plurality of predetermined graphical objects. In one example embodiment, this is achieved by assigning each of said graphical objects into one of a plurality of groups in accordance with a predetermined similarity criterion, associating respective base shapes to each of said groups, wherein said base shapes having a certain degree of similarity to the objects assigned to the associated group according to said similarity criterion and associating in each of said groups at least one gesture to each of said graphical objects, so that the associated gestures are distinguishable from each other. In order to input the desired graphical object, one of the groups is selected by selecting its base shape and then the desired graphical object is identified by drawing the respective gesture associated thereto.

Abstract: A home entertainment device eliminates the need to use multiple remote's. The device is connected (by wired and/or wireless links) to electronic consumer devices (ECDs) to be controlled. A user uses a portable display device to view pages served by the device, and thereby to communicate with the device and indirectly control the ECDs. In a first aspect, a HDMI-CEC communication is used to identify a codeset from a codeset database. In a second aspect, the codeset of a remote is identified by serving pictures of remotes to the user. The user selects a picture and the system looks up its codeset. In a third aspect, keys on an illustration of a remote are dragged and dropped to create a new custom remote. In a fourth aspect, the user supplies a digital photograph of a remote. The system performs optical recognition and identifies the type of remote and its codeset.

Abstract: A method, program and system for displaying the consequence of an input in a graphical user interface (GUI) are provided. The invention comprises displaying a GUI including a plurality of interaction control mechanisms (controls) having a selected or a deselected state. An input to a first control may cause a change in state to at least one other of the plurality of controls. Responsive to a first input at the first control (e.g., holding down a mouse button with the pointer on the first control), the invention displays a preview of the change in state of the plurality of controls that would occur if a second input is made at the first control (e.g., releasing the mouse button with the pointer still on the first control). If the user does not want the previewed change in state to occur, the user has simply to avoid making the second input (e.g., move the pointer off the first control before releasing the mouse button).

Abstract: A method and system are provided for implementing enhanced buttons in graphical user interface of a software application running on computer system. The enhanced buttons allow additional options to be presented to the user in a context-sensitive manner in the same graphical user interface screen that the user is interacting with. The enhanced buttons are context-sensitive buttons that appear on a graphical user interface window as a result of an initiating action or operation selected from the screen. The initiating operation may be linked to a field, button, or other graphical element or object on the screen and the context-sensitive buttons are associated with this linked graphical element. The context-sensitive buttons may be displayed on the graphical user interface screen in relation to the associated graphical element.

Abstract: A method and operator control unit is disclosed that uses a screen, softkey buttons and an operating button. If, after a first on-screen display is invoked by briefly pressing a softkey button, the operating button is then pressed while that first on-screen display is displayed on the screen, a user menu is displayed as a second on-screen display on the screen. Then, a softkey button is pressed for a longer length of time while the user menu is displayed, the softkey button pressed in this manner becomes a shortcut on the user menu. The shortcut allows the user to directly invoke said first on-screen display from the user menu. Thus, the operating button provides a user-selected menu of shortcuts that gives the user direct access to predetermined softkey on-screen displays.

Abstract: A user interface apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating user selection of multiple files stored at a consumer electronic device, such as a mobile communication station. A contiguous selection procedure is provided in which a user selects a pair or more of file representations displayed upon a touch screen.
