  • Patent number: 5715721
Abstract: Flanges are forming simultaneously around multiple holes in a sheet metal part with a press in which multiple sets of tooling are mounted on a pair of plates fastened to the top and bottom platens of the press. The plates have guides for ensuring that the plates, and the tooling on the plates, are aligned when the plates are brought together by closing the press. The tooling includes dies attached to die holders on the upper plate, and punches attached to punch holders on the lower plate using attachments that permit a small lateral movement of the dies and the punches on their holders so that the punches can self-align with the holes in the part when the part is fit onto the punches, and so that the dies can self-align with the punches when the press closes.

  • Patent number: 5168740
Abstract: Drawn bores similar to a sleeve and provided with an inner thread are used as a substitute for nuts. The starting materials are flat sheet-metal blanks. In the course of step-by-step deformation with shaping tools, the wall thickness of the drawn bores decreases, compared to the starting material. This is true in particular with increased height of the drawn bores and sheet-metal blanks with larger surfaces. Accordingly, the invention is intended to recite a method according to which it becomes possible to produce high drawn bores, having a wall thickness comparable to the thickness of the original material, from sheet-metal blanks with large surfaces for highly stressed screw connections. This object is attained by means of a changed sequence of the step-by-step operation. Flat pressing of the sheet-metal piece is only performed after partial inward crimping has been started.

Abstract: Two-out terminal strip (44, 44') is produced by stamping and forming the strip such that the terminals (40) on one of the side edges (36) extend laterally in a first direction of the plane of the stock strip (124) and the terminals (40') on the other side edge (36') extend laterally in a second direction which is the opposite of the first direction. The two-out strip is slit along the centerline (30) of the central carrier portion and the resulting single strips (44, 44') of terminals are wound on reels (46, 46'). One of the strips (44') is wound by rotating the reel (46') in a clockwise direction and the other strip (44) is wound on a reel (46) by rotating the reel in a counterclockwise direction. The two strips will then be in the same orientation on their respective reels and re-reeling of one of the strips is not necessary.

  • Patent number: 5022129
Abstract: Disclosed is a crankshaft forming apparatus and method which has forming heads for forming throw sections at any angle 360.degree. about the rotational axis of the crankshaft and orienting the full length of the throw sections of the crankshaft. The throws are checked for parallelism to the rotational axis of the crankshaft. By turning suitable actuators such as screws, the forming heads are pivoted about a vertical and/or horizontal axis to adjust the throw formation relative to the longitudinal axis. In this manner, each forming head may be adjusted in position until all of the respective throws being formed are parallel to the rotational axis of the crankshaft. Also provided is a toggle mechanism which clamps tightly a rod being formed and opens and closes the clamping units for insertion and removal of the rod.

Abstract: In a system for removing press-formed parts formed in a pressing machine, a loading transfer device is disposed between an ejection position to which a plurality of press-formed parts are simultaneously ejected in parallel from the pressing machine and a loading position established to load the press-formed parts onto each of a plurality of carrier pallets which are on standby in parallel to individually correspond to the plurality of press-formed parts. The loading transfer device comprises a plurality of transfer pallets connected to one another with variable spacings therebetween and reciprocally movable in parallel between the ejection position and the loading position so that the plurality of press-formed parts may be placed onto the individual transfer pallets, and a spacing-varying drive device for varying the spacing between the transfer pallets. During transferring of the press-formed parts by the loading transfer device, the spacing between the press-formed parts is varied.

  • Patent number: 4910993
Abstract: A progressive former and method of producing progressive formers is disclosed in which the bed frame is formed of two side frame members and a spacer member. The two side frame members and the spacer member are substantially fully machined before the side frame members are assembled on opposite sides of the spacer member. Within a given machine size, the side frame members are identical and the width of the spacer member is adjusted to provide the proper spacing between the side frame members for the particular number of work stations in a given machine. By utilizing component parts to produce the machine bed frame rather than a one-piece casting, substantial cost savings are achieved. Further, since the side frame members are identical in machines of a given size having different numbers of work stations, it is economically feasible to produce side frame members for inventory and then assemble them with an appropriate spacer member to provide the desired number of work stations.
