  • Patent number: 8402870
Abstract: A reconfigurable flying cutting, notching and shaping machine operates upon a workpiece traveling along a generally linear axis of motion. The machine supports one or more flying tools upon one or more splined shafts and provides bearings for travel along a splined shaft in a direction of movement parallel to the direction of work travel. Rotation of the splined shaft is coupled through a double-acting cam to move one or more flying cutting tools transversely to the splined shaft.

  • Patent number: 8245559
Abstract: Radial compression mechanism includes a housing defining an inner chamber and a central opening for insertion and removal of product. A plurality of elongated compression dies are movably mounted for reciprocal movement within the inner chamber and define a central product receiving cavity coaxial with the axis of the central opening. Cam followers are affixed to the dies. First cam surfaces are affixed relative to the housing and second cam surfaces are movably mounted relative to the housing. Each cam follower engages a first cam surface to define a first position control constraint, and a second cam surface to define a second position control constraint. Each die has a position relative to each adjacent die and the coaxial central cavity that is controlled by the first position control constraint and the second position control constraint.

  • Patent number: 7775081
Abstract: A rotary fill slide assembly for a sheet metal forming die that has a working element that performs an operation on a portion of a sheet metal blank. The rotary fill slide assembly has a motor that is controlled based upon a press cycle timing mechanism. The rotary fill slide is assembled to the die to fill a space adjacent to a portion of the blank when the blank is in position for the working element to perform the operation on the blank. A linkage connects the motor to the rotary fill slide. The motor drives the linkage in synchronization with the press cycle to fill the space during the period of time that the working element performs the operation on the blank.

  • Patent number: 7637138
Abstract: The invention concerns a multistage press, at which within the machine-mounted clamping plate (1), an insert (3) is arranged which can alternatingly be moved in the direction towards the press plunger (2) and away from it. The insert (3) is moved up and down by a cam drive actuated by the press main drive with lifting and lowering cams (5), whose cam tracks (8a, 8b) are traced by lifting rollers (6) and lowering rollers (7) under compressive prestress. Such a multistage press can be operated with a high number of strokes per minute and has, at the same time, an excellent precision of the stroke movement.

  • Publication number: 20080041133
Abstract: A container bodymaker gearbox (20, 130) drives rams (60, 66) linearly by use of a hypocycloid drive that controls operation of a rotating and orbiting output shaft (40) by synchronizing the rotating and orbiting motion such that a tracking point at a predetermined radius from the shaft 40 tracks a straight line. A coaxial sleeve (124) is spaced around shaft (40) and carries an annular crank hub (140) on bearings (142). The crank hub (140) is eccentrically mounted on the sleeve (124) with the hub centerpoint positioned to track the straight line tracking point. A rotary ring (166) mounted around the periphery of the crank hub (140) supports diametrically opposed connections (176) to rams (60, 66). The ring (166) and rams (60, 66) translate on the straight-line path determined by the centerpoint, with the hub (140) rotating as required within the ring (166) to cancel rotary motion of hub (14) from the translational motion of the ring (166).
