Abstract: A system, method, and computer software application for the delivery and display of third-party multi-media content in a public space on locally managed display devices, wherein the delivery and presentation of the third-party multi-media content is manageable remotely from the public space, sale of display time for display on the locally managed display devices is manageable independently from local management, and the display and remote-management of the third-party content can co-operate and communicate with an incumbent multi-media management and display application operating on the locally managed display devices without requiring a re-tooling or custom programming of the incumbent multi-media management and display application.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed that allow a user to efficiently navigate media selections in an interactive media guidance application and easily identify media for viewing. The disclosed methods and systems provide an environment wherein video assets are displayed according to a user preference on a mosaic page with multiple cells. A subset of the assets appropriate for display in a particular cell is determined based on the user preference. Relevance scores of the assets meeting the user preference are computed, and the asset having the greatest relevance for the user is selected and displayed the corresponding cell. The relevance scores can be computed based on the user's historic viewing habits, user interaction with a media guidance application, or on specific user input.

The present invention includes sending a discovery message to a second screen application, receiving a request for descriptions of the second screen support services, sending a response with the descriptions, receiving a trigger, and delivering the trigger to the second device using a trigger service.

Abstract: A system for dynamically playing information using conventional feeds and ad-hoc feeds to produce “playable” content includes a device that executes a player engine, the player engine collecting, combining and sequencing items to play based on selection criteria and device context, of text, image, video content by parsing selective tags, patterns, text, identifiers and resource types of interest on resources such as web pages to produce playable content, storing the playable contents results from parsing in a queue of playable feed items, selecting items from the queue to produce an ad-hoc feed and playing the ad-hoc feed.

Abstract: A transport control interface may be provided by an interactive television program guide application to provide information, control or both for live and recorded video programming. The transport control interface may indicate to the user this time duration of a live or recorded program and any time segments of the program that have been recorded. The transport control interface may automatically adjust the start and end time shown to accommodate various factors such as continuous viewing on a particular channel, multiple recorded segments, buffer size, etc. Various information associated with the live or recorded video programming may be displayed in the transport control interface.

Abstract: A system and method for determining video clips including interesting content from video data. The system may receive annotation data identifying time and positions corresponding to objects represented in the video data and the system may determine priority metrics associated with each of the objects. By associating the priority metrics with the time and positions corresponding to the objects, the system may generate a priority metric map indicating a time and position of interesting moments in the video data. The system may generate moments and/or video clips based on the priority metric map. The system may determine a time (e.g., video frames) and/or space (e.g., pixel coordinates) associated with the moments/video clips and may simulate camera motion such as panning and/or zooming with the moments/video clips. The system may generate a Master Clip Table including the moments, video clips and/or annotation data associated with the moments/video clips.

Abstract: A method for displaying contents information is provided. In the method, information on each of a plurality of contents may be displayed, and an image for a favorite group registered with the contents may be displayed in correspondence with the displayed contents information. The favorite group image may be displayed as one of a plurality of images. Further, one of the images may indicate that the contents are registered in two or more favorite groups.

Abstract: Aspects of a method and apparatus for communicating electronic service guide information in a satellite television system are provided. A satellite communication system may receive a signal via an interface to a satellite dish, and receive data from a network via a second interface (e.g., an interface to a LAN or a WAN, such as the Internet). The satellite communication system may be operable to channelize the received satellite signal into a plurality of channels, wherein a first channel of the plurality of channels carries electronic service guide (ESG) data. The satellite communication system may select which of the plurality of channels to input to a demodulator based, at least in part, on whether ESG data is available via the second interface. A second channel carrying media data may be input to the demodulator while the ESG data is available via the second interface.

Abstract: A portable device includes solid-state memory, an Ethernet and/or wireless network connection, and an HDMI. The portable device receives content guide data from a first server and displays a content guide on a display. In response to a user's selection of a content item, the portable device requests the content item over the Internet from a second server. The portable device receives the content item, stores the content item in solid-state memory, generates display signals that represent the content item, and sends the display signals to a display. The second server may match the content item with relevant advertisements based on keywords associated with the content item and the advertisements. The second server may send selected advertisement URLs to the portable device. Using the URLs, the portable device may obtain the advertisements over the Internet and cause the display to display the advertisements in conjunction with the content item.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for generating electronic program guide (EPG) are provided. The EPG generating apparatus comprises a receiving interface and a processor. The receiving interface receives an inputting keyword group. The processor generates a program name keyword group according to the program name corresponding to a program description. The processor constructs a semantic similarity degree matrix according to the inputting keyword group and the program name keyword group, and constructs an undirected graph according to the semantic similarity degree matrix. The processor finds a maximum clique set of the undirected graph, and generates a match score according to the program description and the maximum clique set. The processor determines a recommendation sequence of the program name in the EPG according to the match score.

A learning module extracts an image feature amount of each frame of an image of learning content and extracts word frequency information regarding a frequency of appearance of each word in a description text, and learns an annotation models which is a multi-stream Hidden Markov Model (HMM) by using a multi-stream including the image feature amount and the text feature amount. A browsing controller extracts a scene which is a group of one or more temporally continuous frames from target content by using the annotation model and displays representative images of the scenes so as to be arranged in chronological order.

A method of providing a Non-Real Time (NRT) service in a broadcasting receiver includes receiving a service map table (SMT) and a first descriptor through a service signaling channel, identifying an image identifier and an image type of an image for an NRT service based upon the first descriptor, receiving the image via a flute session and displaying the image when corresponding service is played, wherein the image is logo or icon data for the NRT service. The method may further include connecting a service signaling channel, parsing the received SMT and the first descriptor, determining whether a service is the NRT service based upon the parsed SMT and storing the received image.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for causing a stunt switcher to run a bug-overlay digital video effect (DVE). In one aspect, a method involves (i) selecting a first log-entry from a traffic log, wherein the first log-entry corresponds to a bug-overlay DVE stored in the stunt switcher, and to a start time; (ii) selecting a second log-entry from the traffic log, wherein the second log-entry corresponds to a video component (VC) and the start time; (iii) causing the VC to start being channeled through the stunt switcher proximate the start time; (iv) making a determination that a threshold time-period has passed since the start time; and (v) responsive to making the determination that the threshold time-period has passed since the start time, causing the stunt switcher to run the stored bug-overlay DVE, thereby overlaying a bug on the VC as the VC is being channeled through the stunt switcher.

Abstract: A controlling device is provided with the ability to present personalized program guide information by using personal preferences provided to a home computing device. The filtered program guide data is then downloaded to the controlling device from the home computing device for use in connection with an application of the controlling device that functions to display program guide information within a display of the controlling device.

Abstract: A method is described for providing a navigation preview file for a video. The method may include identifying a number of content images that may be associated with a video. An arrangement of the content images may be determined that may provide a low granularity preview of the entire length of the associated video where the low granularity preview increasingly becomes more granular as the content images are received on a client device. A navigation preview file may then be constructed according to the arrangement of the content images.

Abstract: A system and methodology provide for automatic generation of thumbnail images of a video stream of images from a television channel. A still frame image of the video stream of the channel is captured. A plurality of content filters is applied to the still frame image to determine whether the image is suitable for display. Images can be filtered for offensive content, defective content, or advertising content. A filtered image that is appropriate for display is selected and stored. If the still frame image is inappropriate for display, a default thumbnail image is selected. The selected image is stored as a thumbnail image in association with EPG data for the television program. The thumbnail image and EPG data are sent for display to a viewer.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for generating a personalized video mosaic from multiple of video sources in a cable television services system. A head end receives a subscriber selection of video sources from multiple video sources broadcast in the television services system and generates a personalized video mosaic from those sources. The head end then transmits the personalized video mosaic to the subscriber for simultaneous viewing of the selected video sources on a broadcast channel in the cable television services system. The set-top box executes an application program enabling the subscriber to individually select the video sources which make up the personalized video mosaic and transmits the selections to the head end. The set-top box enables the display of the personalized video mosaic on the broadcast channel in the cable television services network.
