The testing apparatus comprises a first means fixedly mounted in a frame for gripping a sheet of paper on one side of a line of perforations extending across the paper and a second means rotatably mounted in the frame in spaced relation to the first means for gripping the paper on the other side of the line of perforations. A pendulum is attached to the second means so that swinging of the pendulum causes rotation of the second means. The pendulum may be swung along a path which extends from a first position, where energy is stored in the pendulum, through a second position, where the paper is rendered taut and the line of perforations is burst by the energy stored in the pendulum, to a third position, where the energy remaining in the pendulum after the bursting action is dissipated.
