Multiple Controlled Elements Patents (Class 74/471R)
  • Patent number: 4080874
Abstract: A pair of metering pumps are fixedly supported on a mounting frame and are driven in tandem by a reciprocable thrust mechanism for driving the piston or cylinder element of the pump. The thrust mechanism is movable transversely to the reciprocating direction and is supported on a frame. Two levers have respective ends linked to the thrust mechanism and to the frame, respectively. One of the reciprocable pump elements is suspended on a respective lever whereby reciprocation of the thrust mechanism causes corresponding reciprocation of the suspended pump element. The levers are held stationary with respect to the thrust mechanism and the suspension of the reciprocable pump elements holds them stationary with respect to the mounting frame.

  • Patent number: 4071208
Abstract: In a system for positioning the spoilers on the port and starboard wings of an aircraft, a mechanical mixer that incorporates a three-dimensional cam receives pilot-controlled roll (control wheel) and speed-brake inputs and combines them to produce left and right wing spoiler positioning outputs. The cam surfaces of the three-dimensional cam are contoured so that the positioning of the spoilers in reaction to the roll input effects a roll response of the aircraft that is substantially independent of the setting of the speed-brake input.

  • Patent number: 4048799
Abstract: A control for a hydraulically operated winch or the like having a hydraulically disengaged brake, a multi-speed, hydraulically controlled transmission, and a drum to be driven or braked. The control system includes means whereby the transmission is placed in neutral, automatically, whenever the brake is to be disengaged to lower a load and a control valve including a spool with small and large slots along with a drum-driven metering pump controls fast and slow lowering speeds. Emergency free fall of the load is accomplished in the valve by bypassing the small metering slot. An arrangement of an accumulator and check valves allow hydraulic disengagement of the brake even if the engine is dead and there is provided a recirculating hydraulic circuit to conserve oil in such an instance so that the accumulator volume can be minimized.

  • Patent number: 4044557
Abstract: The shiftably supported, rotatable feed rolls on a forage harvester or other material processing machine are operably coupled to a control lever on the hydraulic pump regulating the feed roll drive motor such that the angular velocity of the rolls is increased in response to shifting movement of the rolls away from one another, thereby enabling the rolls to readily rid themselves of a larger-than-normal slug of material should the same be encountered during harvesting. An additional control lever of a second hydraulic pump regulating another drive motor for the standing crop cutter and gathering elements of the harvester is operably coupled to the first control lever by a lost motion connection that permits the control levers to be shifted simultaneously for in unison manual operation of the motors, yet the first lever may be actuated independently by the feed rolls to control the first drive motor in response to relative shifting movement between the rolls.

  • Patent number: 4044848
Abstract: This invention relates to floor treatment machines, e.g. for scrubbing and polishing floors comprising a pair of driving wheels with independent speed control, a pair of independently movable manually operable control members mounted side-by-side on the machine, with each of said control members being operably connected to an individual electrical component forming part of the speed control for one of the driving wheels, whereby synchronized movement of the control members provides equal adjustment of the wheel speeds, whereas differential movement of the control members provides a steering effect. When operated by a walking operator, such machines have been found to exhibit a tendency to hunt for a selected speed, and in order to avoid this damping means is provided between the operator's control and the electrical components to reduce the sensitivity of the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 3964318
Abstract: A device is disclosed by which two paired controls in an aircraft flight control system, such as pitch controls, or the roll controls, which are ordinarily operated in coordination by the pilot by use of a single operating control may, when the control on one side of the airplane is damaged and jammed, accomplish a disconnect of that side, and so free the opposite side control for operation. The aircraft can often be flown with just the one side control in commission, if freed from the opposite side. The device is in the nature of a bell crank, and the disconnect means is in the hub thereof. Also disclosed is a novel bi-directional sensor incorporated in the input arm of the bell crank, and which gives an indication to the pilot when the linkage to the corresponding control surface, or the control surface, is damaged and jammed. This sensor has application other than in aircraft control systems.
