  • Patent number: 11603303
Abstract: A strap wrench device includes (a) an elongate, flexible member having a first end and a second end; and (b) an elongate handle having a proximal end, a distal end, a face side and a back side. The handle is configured to be conveniently held in a user's right hand with its proximal end extending toward the object to be gripped. The proximal end of the handle has a means on its right side (when held by a user with its the face side upward) for attaching the first end of the flexible member. It also has an opening adjacent the handle's left side through which the second end of the flexible member can pass. The flexible member extends through the opening in the handle, thereby forming a loop that can surround and grip an object. The flexible member then extends further along the left side of the handle toward the handle's distal end.

  • Patent number: 9926752
Abstract: A rod handling assembly 10 has a surface engagement mechanism 12 capable of engaging an exposed surface of a drill rod R and a holding mechanism 14 coupled to the surface engagement mechanism 12. The system 10 and more particularly the mechanisms 12 and 14 engage and hold the rod R from a location radially adjacent a circumferential surface of the rod R inboard of its opposite ends, rather than from an end of the rod R. The surface engagement mechanism 12 is a distributed mechanism having two parts 12a and 12b that act at axially spaced locations on the rod R. The holding mechanism 14 is located and operates on the rod R between these axially spaced locations. The surface engagement mechanism 12 initially operates to engage the surface of the rod R which may for example be lying on a rod tray, to enable the rod to be lifted from a tray. • Publication number: 20140310937
Abstract: The present invention is to an improved a pneumatic oil filter removal tool. The tool has an outer housing formed of a somewhat rigid body surrounding a pressure sleeve. The pressure sleeve has a high friction surface on its interior surface and is shaped to receive a substantially cylindrical oil filter body. An inflation tool is provided to increase the pressure within the pressure sleeve. As pressure increases in the sleeve, an outer rigid wall provided by the rigid body around the sleeve directs the expansion inwardly. The increased pressure thus expands within the housing until it compresses against the filter body to securely receive the filter body. A high friction surface on the interior of the pressure sleeve allows the filter to be rotated as the pressure sleeve and housing are turned. This unique combination forms a pneumatic tool for grasping and turning an oil filter or similar body to be rotated.

Abstract: A dual screwdriver is provided for connecting and disconnecting a connector assembly having first and second jackscrew guideposts. In one embodiment, the dual screwdriver includes a housing, a user input rotatably coupled to the housing, first and second manually-bendable shafts each rotatably coupled to the housing, and first and second bits mounted to the distal end portions of first and second manually-bendable shafts, respectively. The first and second bits are configured to matingly engage the first and second jackscrew guideposts. A gear train is disposed in the housing and mechanically couples the user input to the first and second manually-bendable shafts. The rotation of the user input drives the rotation of the first and second manually-bendable shafts and, therefore, the rotation of the first and second jackscrew guideposts when matingly engaged by the first and second bits, respectively.

Abstract: A nut driver bit is designed to install nuts onto threaded shafts, such as all-thread rods and bolts. The nut driver bit may be driven by a power drill which causes a driver end of the nut driver bit to rotate. The driver end may contact a nut, thereby causing the nut to rotate. The driver end may be covered in with a contact grip for gripping the nut during use. A worker may install and spin a nut on a threaded shaft without requiring their fingers to manually rotate the nut. The nut driver bit may drastically reduce the time required to install nuts onto threaded rods.

Abstract: A system for securing a nut (24) used to compress a compliant seal (23) surrounding a radial conductor lead (21) of an electric generator (10). The generator has a rotor (11) with the radial conductor lead arranged in a radial lead bore (20) of the rotor and the seal coaxially arranged surrounding the radial lead. A receiving pocket (15) is arranged in a body of the rotor adjacent to the radial lead bore. The nut is arranged coaxially with the radial conductor lead, the nut including a seal contacting surface (35) and a ligament (26) arranged opposite the seal contacting surface, wherein a portion of the ligament is deformed into the receiving pocket to lock the nut against rotation, thereby maintaining a desired degree of compression on the seal.

Abstract: A device and method for remote manipulation of a magnetic object with at least a portion thereof having a substantially prismatic shape. The device includes a head having a magnetic field wherein the head includes a face contact surface and a magnetic extension piece. The face contact surface and the magnetic extension piece are configured to contact and thereby, concentrate and shape the magnetic field into an end surface and no more than two side surfaces of the prismatic shape, respectively, whereby when the prismatic shape is placed in proximity to the head, the magnetic field draws the end surface of the prismatic shape into contact with the face contact surface and the no more than two side surfaces of the prismatic shape into contact with the magnetic extension piece. The device thereby engaging the magnetic object and allowing for its remote manipulation.

Abstract: A pipe torquing sprag tool comprises one or more elastomeric sprags supported on a sprag support in an arrangement lying generally in a plane that is generally perpendicular to the axis of the rotatable sprag support. Each sprag has a solid, uninterrupted side and an interrupted side, and each sprag reacts to a lateral force in the general direction tangential to the surface of the sprag support and applied near the top of the sprag to bend the elastomeric sprag either toward the interrupted side to at least partially lean, fold or collapse, or towards the substantially uninterrupted side for being deformed to a generally compressed and non-compliant configuration for gripping. The sprag tool of the present invention may comprise a sprag support for positioning an external arrangement of sprags for being inserted into the bore of an add-on pipe segment.
