  • Patent number: 4580963
Abstract: A runner structure composed of a runner and a sprue is discharged from an injection molding machine into a chopping apparatus having a first cutter mechanism and a second cutter mechanism. The runner structure is guided by a guide mechanism in the chopping apparatus toward the first and second cutter mechanisms. The sprue is cut off from the runner by the first cutter mechanism, and then the runner and the sprue are chopped by the second cutter mechanism. The first cutter mechanism has a lower cutter for stopping the runner structure by engagement with the sprue, and an upper cutter movable into coaction with the lower cutter for cutting off the sprue. The second cutter mechanism includes a feed roller for feeding the runner intermittently and a cutter reciprocably movable for chopping the runner on the feed roller. The chopped pieces are discharged through a hopper and delivered into the injection molding machine for recycling.

  • Patent number: 4484501
Abstract: Apparatus for trimming the lateral marginal portions of successive stacks of sheets of multiple unit width and for subdividing the trimmed stacks into stacks of unit width has an advancing unit which moves the stacks stepwise in a direction at right angles to their width, a trimming station where the marginal portions of successive stacks are trimmed, and two or more severing stations which are disposed one after the other, as considered in the direction of advancement of the stacks, and at each of which the width of the stacks is reduced by one unit width as a result of separation of discrete stacks of unit width therefrom. The stacks at the severing stations are moved sideways by the width of a stack of unit width prior to a separating step. The mechanisms at the severing stations employ knives which are aligned with one another, as considered in the direction of advancement of stacks, and are accessible at the outer sides of the respective severing stations.

  • Patent number: 4339973
Abstract: A device for use in applying panels to a wall, for providing holes in the panels to expose electrical outlets and switches therethrough. The device includes two components, a box and a cutter plate; the box is fitted to an outlet or switch, that is in position in the wall, and has pins and a peripheral cutting edge directed outwardly when the box is so fitted. The wall panel to be put on the wall is tentatively set in place, bearing against the pins, and is then tapped to drive the pins into and through the panel. The panel is then removed from such tentative position, carrying the box with it, by means of the pins friction-holding in the holes, and laid on the floor with the box down. The cutter plate is then fitted on the pins which are exposed through the panel, applied to the upper surface of the panel, and struck with a hammer, forcing the panel against the peripheral cutting edge of the box, cutting through the panel and leaving a hole therein of the size, shape and location of the box.

  • Patent number: 4328725
Abstract: Prior to the forming of bar material, without creating internal stresses, on transverse transport presses, bars are sub-divided into sections of equal volume, the end-pieces of each bar having to be discarded before further processing. To provide for the automatic and material-saving discarding of the end pieces, two light barriers are installed in the feed zone of the bars, the distance (a) between these light barriers being newly stored in a microprocessor as each bar is fed in, and this distance being converted, by calculation, to three further distances (b, c, d). By reference to these data, the microprocessor controls the discarding operation, with one, or at the most two, section lengths being discarded per bar, according to whether the interface between two successive bars is located in the central region of the section length in question, or in one of its two end-regions.

  • Patent number: 4285754
Abstract: An arrangement for fabricating planar elements which may be stacked for producing predetermined surfaces and bodies. The planar elements have cross-sections corresponding to respective cross-sections of the surface to be constructed. The planar elements are formed by cutting them from plate-shaped material or sheet metal, and the cut-out elements are held to the parent sheet or plate material by tabs. The planar elements are cut successively from the sheet or plate-shaped material at spaced intervals. The cutting action is such as to leave the tabs for holding the planar elements in place. Registration holes are punched about the planar element, so that these may be readily stacked relative to each other, as required to form the surface to be constructed. Sprocket holes are also punched in the sheet material to advance the material along a processing path at which the various processing stations are located.

  • Patent number: 4273738
Abstract: Three-dimensional work pieces, such as instrument panels or dashboards, are made of initially flat stock or of synthetic material such as a two-component foamable material. The tools of the present apparatus include upper and lower holding tools which are preferably simultaneously shaping tools, and cutting or trimming tools. The upper tools and the cutting or trimming tools may have a common support which is preferably exchangeably secured in a main frame. The shaping tools are moved into a first cooperating position relative to each other, whereby the work piece is formed into the desired shape. The shaping tools may then be locked in the shaping position or they may be moved into a second cooperating position to be rigidly locked in the second position. A tool support such as a table carried by a scissors lift frame is used for moving the shaping tools into the desired positions. The cutting or trimming is then performed by applying pressure to the respective tools.

  • Patent number: 3949630
Abstract: Battery grid plate castings are trimmed in a two-step operation. Each plate moves flat along a horizontal or inclined path against a first stop bar. One of two trim blades on a reciprocating upper die block then shears flashing from the leading end of the plate during a downward stroke of the die. Then the stop bar raises during the upward stroke of the die, and the plate moves forwardly against a second stop. Upon the next downward die stroke the second trim blade shears flashing from the trailing edge of the plate. During the next upward stroke, the fully trimmed plate moves forwardly onto a stacking device. As the leading end of one plate is trimmed at the first trim station, the trailing end of a preceding plate is trimmed at the second trim station. The second stop is easily moved to different stop positions along the path of travel of the plates to change the distance between such stop and the second trim blade and thereby enable trimming plates of different lengths without changing dies.
