Abstract: A cutting device having blades with V-shaped cutting edges and shaped to cause the blade centers to deviate from a vertical plane. One blade is reciprocated. The outer ends of each blade have sliding projections engaging marginal portions of outer surfaces of the other blade so that the cutting edges are drawn toward and cross-over one another during cutting, whereby the blades increasingly move from their bent shape toward a planar shape. On carrying out the cutting operation, firstly the paper holding plate slidingly reaches the recording paper and tightly keeps the paper stationary. Thereafter the cutting portion of the movable blade moves forward enters into the opening to cut the paper. The result is that the recording paper does not escape when undergoing the cutting operation, the cutting quality can be kept excellent to a certain extent irrespective e.g.

  • Patent number: 5232430
Abstract: A piercing blade for perforating slits in a continuous tubular web of thermo-plastic material is shown. The blade is used in a machine to form individual bags from the tube by heat sealing the bottom and perforating the top of the next bag. The piercing teeth in the blade have formed in the front face a number of horizontal grooves which serve to pick up the edge of the top layer of the slit to form a burr thereon and thus separate the two plys of the tubular web, facilitating the opening of the top of the bag when it is separated from the roll of continuous tubular material.

  • Patent number: 5001956
Abstract: A device for perforating a tubular film of plastic material flattened to form a roll of pre-formed bags for individual separation from the roll, has a perforating knife with a plurality of pointed teeth spaced along the bottom edge thereof disposed for reciprocal piercing of a continuous tubular film of plastic passed over a work support surface having a hollow slot therein. The teeth are hollow-ground to provide a slightly arcuate cutting edge along each tooth that produces a non linear perforation in the tubular film of plastic and partially seaprates the top layer of the plastic from the bottom layer. The teeth are spaced apart a desired distance to leave sufficient attaching tabs so that the roll of bags does not prematurely pull apart. Minimum tension and penetrating pressure are achieved with the present invention and result in less distortion and unwanted tearing of the end product and greater life for the piercing blade and a more easily separated and opened bag.

  • Patent number: 4998430
Abstract: In a progressive die for punch press operations in which a strip of material is fed into the press and sequential operations are conducted on the strip including the separation of parts from the strip. The die is provided with a construction which forms an integral carrier tab between the parts to be separated. In the embodiment ilustrated, the operation is the manufacture of rotor and stator laminations for a dynamoelectric machine. The strip of material is fed into the press in which the die is mounted, and the respective rotor and stator laminations are formed in a series of workstations within the die. The improvement in the die construction is a punch station for substantially but not completely separating the rotor lamination from the strip. Thereafter, additional operations are constructed on the strip, the rotor lamination being completely separated at a subsequent workstation.

  • Patent number: 4941381
Abstract: A portable business card slit cutter includes a base member and cutting member which is rotatably affixed to the base member. A pair of triangular shaped cutting blades are affixed to the cutting member and a corresponding pair of receiving slits are positioned on the base member so that the blades are inserted into the slits when the cutting member is rotated toward the base. When a sheet of paper is positioned on the base member, the blades cut slits in the paper. The blades are spaced apart by an amount so that, when the slits are cut, opposite corners of conventional business card may be inserted into and held by the slits. The slit cutter includes a paper stop for positioning the paper as well as a paper width positioner. The cutting member is affixed to the base by a hinge mechanism and held spaced apart therefrom by springs. The cutting blades are held by Tee shaped carriers which are inserted into Tee shaped carrier slots in the cutting member.

  • Patent number: 4449434
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting holes and notches in thermoplastic film by using heated steel rule dies. The dies are set into a heated die block, and scrap passes through the die, and through a hole in the heated die block so pieces of scrap fuse together as they pass through the block. The die block is fixed, and a movable platen urges the film down against the heated dies. A stripper is biased up to strip the film from the dies after cutting, and is resiliently movable down to allow cutting. Air can be directed through the stripper to blow the film up, off the stripper, to prevent melting when the film motion stops. Use of two dies accurately spaced can cut wicket holes and provide accurate cutting to assure proper operation in a bagging machine.

  • Patent number: 4215606
Abstract: A strip 10 of slips 12 is characterized by breaking portions 62,64 at which each individual clip 12a, 12b, 12c is separable from its longitudinal neighbors these portions being coextensive, longitudinally of the strip, with the line of separation 60 which divides off each clip from its longitudinal neighbors and which is formed without removal of material of the strip. This line is achieved by shearing the material of the strip while bowing it about a longitudinal axis so as to present a curved surface to an oncoming shearing tool which has an oppositely curved surface. The extent of the intersection of the opposite curve defines the length of the line of the separation. The breaking portion is adjacent each end of the line. The clips during severence suffer apparent lateral contraction but no longitudinal distortion.
