  • Patent number: 8323683
Abstract: A chewing gum comprising at least one active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) with a core onto which is applied at least one inner polymer film coating and thereafter onto which is applied at least one outer hard coating. A preferred API is nicotine. Flavoring agents may be incorporated in the core, in the at least one inner polymer film coating and/or in the at least one outer hard coating. The gums formed exhibit a long lasting effect of flavoring agent(s) and result in the domination of flavoring agents in the coating(s) over flavoring agent(s) in the core, thereby (a) avoiding problems of chemical or pharmaceutical incompatibility between an API in the core and flavoring agent(s) in the coating(s) and (b) achieving an increased control of the release of the API and of non-active excipients.

  • Patent number: 7943167
Abstract: In various embodiments of the present invention, a capsule is provided including a hydrophobic inner layer and at least one hydrophilic outer layer. The hydrophobic layer may include a hydrophilic component such as an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) which may be fully encapsulated, partially encapsulated or part of an adsorption complex. Such capsules experience no or minimal cracking or breaking in the outer layer.

  • Patent number: 7867509
Abstract: Physiologically acceptable films, including edible films, are disclosed. The films include a water soluble film-forming polymer such as pullulan. Edible films are disclosed that include pullulan and antimicrobially effective amounts of the essential oils thymol, methyl salicylate, eucalyptol and menthol. The edible films are effective at killing the plaque-producing germs that cause dental plaque, gingivitis and bad breath. The film can also contain pharmaceutically active agents. Methods for producing the films are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7232837
Abstract: The present invention provides stereoscopically-pure diastereomers of Formula I: In a preferred embodiment, the stereoisomers of the present invention are of Formula II, depicted below: R2, R3 and R4 are independently H, OH, OCH3, CH2OH, NHCONH2, NH2, halogen or CF3, and R1 is pyridine, or an amine which may be substituted with hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkylenearyl, lower alkylenephenyl, lower alkylenehydroxyphenyl, lower alkyleneamine, lower alkyleneaminoaryl, lower alkylaminohydroxyphenyl, or a similar functional group. R5 is hydrogen, hydroxyl or methyl; R6 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkylenaryl, lower alkylenephenyl, lower alkylenehydroxyphenyl, lower alkyleneamine, lower alkyleneaminoaryl, lower alkylaminohydroxyphenyl, and the like. For both Formula I and Formual II, the first carbon on the side chain progressing from the ring is preferably in the R-configuration. The second carbon atom on the side chain of Formula II, which is attached to R5, may or may not be a chiral center.

  • Patent number: 7153493
Abstract: The subject invention provides compositions useful in oral cavity, comprising an effective amount of a soluble potassium salt, a sodium (C2–C24) alkylsulfate in an amount effective to remove or loosen debris and/or stains from a surface, and a polar surfactant, said surfactant comprising a hydrophobic portion selected from a (C6–C30) alkyl group and a polymeric silicone group, wherein the molar ratio of the surfactant to the sodium (C8–C24) alkylsulfate is greater than or equal to about 1:1. The subject invention also provides a mint flavoring that does not comprise a substantial amount of menthol, said mint flavoring being either a dementholated natural mint extract or a synthetic blend.
