  • Patent number: 6708826
Abstract: A packaged supply of individual doses of a personal care product, e.g., strips of a water-soluble film that contains a pharmaceutically active material, comprises the combination of a) a tray; b) a plurality of substantially identical packets uniformly stacked in the tray, each packet having a pouch portion that holds a single dose of the product and a tab portion releasably connected to the pouch portion; c) retention means for holding the tab portions of the stacked packets in the tray; and d) a cover that is movably connected to the tray, the cover being movable between a closed position in which the stack of packets is enclosed within the tray and an open position in which the pouch portion of the topmost packet on the stack is sufficiently exposed that its front edge can be gripped, allowing the pouch portion to be pulled away from the restrained tab portion to which it is connected, thereby releasing that pouch portion from the tray.

  • Patent number: 6664424
Abstract: The present invention provides stereoscopically-pure diastereomers of Formula I: In a preferred embodiment, the stereoisomers of the present invention are of Formula II, depicted below: R2, R3 and R4 are independently H, OH, OCH3, CH2OH, NHCONH2, NH2, halogen or CF3, and R1 is pyridine, or an amine which may be substituted with hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkylenearyl, lower alkylenephenyl, lower alkylenehydroxyphenyl, lower alkyleneamine, lower alkyleneaminoaryl, lower alkylaminohydroxyphenyl, or a similar functional group. R5 is hydrogen, hydroxyl or methyl; R6 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkylenaryl, lower alkylenephenyl, lower alkylenehydroxyphenyl, lower alkyleneamine, lower alkyleneaminoaryl, lower alkylaminohydroxyphenyl, and the like. For both Formula I and Formual II, the first carbon on the side chain progressing from the ring is preferably in the R-configuration.

  • Patent number: 6635275
Abstract: The invention concerns compositions from modified starches, such as starch ethers or oxidized starch, more particularly hydroxpropylated starch (HPS) or hydroxylethylated starch (HES) for the use in pharmaceutical, veterinary, food, cosmetic or other products like films for wrapping food, aspics or jellies, preferably for predosed formulations like soft or hard capsules. The hard capsules obtained by the present invention with a conventional dipping molding process are similar to hard gelatine capsules (HGC).

  • Patent number: 6596298
Abstract: Physiologically acceptable films, including edible films, are disclosed. The films include a water soluble film-forming polymer such as pullulan. Edible films are disclosed that include pullulan and antimicrobially effective amounts of the essential oils thymol, methyl salicylate, eucalyptol and menthol. The edible films are effective at killing the plaque-producing germs that cause dental plaque, gingivitis and bad breath. The film can also contain pharmaceutically active agents. Methods for producing the films are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6534042
Abstract: An oral rinse, dentifrice, or oral gel composition comprising: a) about 0.01 weight % to about 5 weight % of a citrus flavor, citrus flavor ingredient, or mixtures thereof; b) about 0.01 weight % to about 5 weight % of a phenolic, said phenolic selected from the group consisting of menthol, eucalyptol, methyl salicylate, thymol, triclosan, and mixtures thereof; and c) an orally acceptable carrier. The claimed composition is useful in retarding the development of plaque, treating gingivitis, and reducing the viable population of micro-organisms in the oral cavity of a mammal.

  • Patent number: 6530478
Abstract: The object of the present invention is to provide a tablet case which can eliminate the disadvantage that the tablets in the case are broken by mutual collision therebetween when there remain a smaller number of tablets in the case, and which makes it possible to readily take out a desired number of tablets therefrom. An elongated tablet case is provided which accommodates a plurality of the tablets. The tablet case has a case body, a cover, and knots. The case body is provided with a plurality of narrow groove-like recesses, each one accommodating one tablet, which are disposed in parallel with one another in one row along the longitudinal direction of the case body. The cover is fitted to the case body slidably along the longitudinal direction. The knots temporarily lock the cover relative to the case body every time the cover is slid by a predetermined distance relative thereto.

  • Patent number: 6495529
Abstract: The present invention provides pharmaceutical compositions which include (−)-pseudoephedrine and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the (−)-pseudoephedrine is substantially-free of (+)-pseudoephedrine. In another embodiment, the present invention provides methods of relieving nasal and bronchial congestion and of inducing pupil dilation which include administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of (−)-pseudoephedrine to a mammal. The (−)-pseudoephedrine used in the present methods is substantially free of (+)-pseudoephedrine and also substantially free of side effects caused by administration of (+)-pseudoephedrine.
