  • Patent number: 4400830
Abstract: A shower cap comprising a crown having a top section and a lateral section defining an opening that receives the wearer's head. The crown is reinforced with structural members that provide a shape to the crown intended to preserve the user's coiffure and at the same time it does not substract from its aesthetic appeal. A pair of strips are attached to the lower edge of the lateral section defining the opening and their terminations are free and detached from the lateral section so that, with the proper adhesive means, they may be used to snuggly fit the opening around the user's head.

  • Patent number: 4401183
Abstract: A fire escape ladder system for high-rise buildings having balconies with parapets. Each balcony stores its own corresponding ladders. A first ladder is securely mounted on the parapet. This ladder folds out and over the parapet when in use. A second ladder with a flanged top is pushed through a cooperating opening at the base of the parapet. The flange prevents the ladder from sliding through the opening. This second ladder descends to the top of the next lower balcony where it is secured with a bar and clamp assembly. Each user wears a safety belt that connects to T-shaped longitudinal slots integrally formed in both side pieces of the ladder. The ladder systems provide escape routes from balcony to balcony to ground.

  • Patent number: 4353569
Abstract: A freewheel flywheel transmission system for a bicycle capable of storing kinetic rotational energy, in which the flywheel properties are utilized with a minimum of moving parts and in which the energy of the user or the kinetic energy of the bicycle is stored or released in a very simple manner. The transmission system includes a fixed axle and a hub shell rotatively supported by the axle. A flywheel and a first ratchet sprocket to which the energy of the user is applied are affixed to the hub shell. Second and third sprockets are rotatively supported on bearings by said hub shell. First and second clutches are used for engaging and disengaging second and third sprockets to their respective flywheel clutch faces enabling the user to transfer the energy so as to operate the vehicle in a plurality of modes as the power needs vary. Energy from second and third sprockets is transmitted through second and third transmission chains to fourth and fifth sprocket wheels attached to the rear drive wheel.

  • Patent number: 4267642
Abstract: An angle gage mechanism is disclosed for use in measuring angles of surfaces in a workpiece usually requiring more than one conventional tool at the present time. This invention is capable of performing the most used functions of at least five conventional tools, to wit, solid square, bevel protractor, combination square, rule and bevel. It also includes a vernier for added accuracy and a plurality of pre-set angles that can be readily selected by the user. The invention comprises a frame with a cylindrical hole housing a cylindrical spindle having means for readily locking said spindle at predetermined angles with respect to the frame and means for frictionally locking said spindle at any angle with respect to the frame. A slot in said frame aligned with a partial slot in the spindle receive a slidable ruler. The frame is further provided with means for frictionally locking said ruler relative to the spindle.

  • Patent number: 4266538
Abstract: A regulator for underwater diving having an improved first stage wherein the bias of the coil spring is varied by changing the relative position of the piston seat which can be readily accessed. The second stage of the regulator is capable of satisfying the human breathing demand with the use of a linkage ratio adjustment feature which coupled with the selection of the proper angle for the housing of the diaphragm permits the amplification and faithful tracking of the diver's breathing cycle. Also, exhaust means has been provided to facilitate the purging of extraneous fluids from the regulator in the most common positions of the diver. The above mentioned features, in combination, will provide a perfect match of the first and second stages of the regulator.

  • Patent number: 4224953
Abstract: A pipe to be used for smoking with a bowl, where the tobacco being smoked is burned, having three cavities or chambers defined therein. One of the chambers is a burning chamber wherein the tobacco to be smoked is burned, beneath the burning chamber is a screen, a control valve that varies the diameter of the passage between the burning chamber and a cooling chamber underneath this valve. A second screen separates the cooling chamber from a third chamber, called the filtering chamber. The filtering medium is the same substance being smoked and it is packed and held inside the filtering chamber with a third screen that is placed at the end of the filtering chamber. The third screen in turn is held in place when the bowl is connected to the stem. Finally, a mouthpiece is connected to the stem. The ends of the bowl piece may be interchanged, thereby providing two choices for the size of the burning chamber to be used depending on the amount of substance to be smoked.
