  • Patent number: 6899775
Abstract: This invention relates to the printing of a substrate having a pre-printed “print pattern” with a “design layer” of ink where there is differential adhesion within and without the print pattern. The print pattern is receptive to an ink, and the design layer ink forms a durable image material with good bond to the print pattern, but the ink does not form a durable image material on the portions of the substrate outside the print pattern. The design layer ink is a UV-curable ink, and the print pattern may have a higher surface energy than the portions of the substrate outside the print pattern.

  • Patent number: 6899473
Abstract: A focal plane shutter for cameras is provided with a shutter blade which can be actuated to both directions for opening and for closing a photographing optical path by an electromagnetic apparatus. When a rotor is rotated to the direction corresponding to the direction of conduction of coils an actuating member which is formed in one with the rotor make arms rotate by its actuating pin and actuates four blades of the shutter blade about upward and downward direction. A brake member rotatably arranged together with on a friction plate on a shaft has bent portions formed near tip portions of the arm portions which are inserted in a slot on a shutter base plate. An operation for opening the shutter blade is braked by the actuating pin contacting, pressing and moving one of the bent portions at termination stage, and a closing operation is braked by the actuating pin contacting, pressing and moving another bent portion at the termination stage.

  • Patent number: 6900032
Abstract: Polypeptides are expressed by the pituitary-tumor-transforming-gene (PTTG), formerly known as pituitary-tumor-specific-gene (PTSG), and nucleic acids encode them. Examples are the human and rat PTTG proteins. The nucleic acids may be applied to the production of a recombinant protein, and to the detection of the presence of PTTG genes in different species. The nucleic acids may be operatively linked to a vector, optionally provided with control and expression sequences and/or being carried by a host cell. The nucleic acids may also be delivered to a mammal to compensate for the absence, or a defective expression, of endogenous protein. The nucleic acids, proteins, and antibodies are also employed in disgnostic assays, as well as, for example, in the production of anti-PTTG antibodies (protein), therapeutic compositions and other applications of the proteins and antibodies. Various kits utilize nucleic acids, polypeptides, and/or antibodies. A transgenic non-human mammal expresses PTTG.

  • Patent number: 6898836
Abstract: A method for forming a hollow part (18) that allows the use of hydroforming in cases where the part interconnects between sections having extreme variations in cross-section. A complete hollow part (18) is formed by joining a hydroformed hollow section with hollow sections. A method for securing a fastener sleeve (102) insert in a pre-fabricated hollow part (100) is also provided. In this method, the hollow part (100) is deformed slightly to form flanges (108) that secure the insert (102) in the part. Once the insert (102) is secure in the hollow part, fasteners can be applied to the part without collapsing it.

  • Patent number: 6895656
Abstract: In an assembly method for a disk recording apparatus, a spindle motor is driven to rotate disks and with the disk recording apparatus supported by a linear guide mechanism for movement with one degree of freedom of translation in a direction substantially in parallel to surfaces of the disks. A measuring mechanism is used to measure vibration in the direction of the one degree of freedom of translation caused by the rotation of a rotating part of the disk recording apparatus. An angular position detecting mechanism is used to detect the angular position of each disk at which vibration of a maximum amplitude is generated. The eccentricity and the direction of eccentricity of the rotating part are analyzed in accordance with the measured vibration and the detected angular position, and the base and the rotating part are moved relatively to correct the eccentricity in accordance with the result of the analysis.

  • Patent number: 6897044
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of biologically active antibody dimers in a pharmaceutically acceptable composition. The dimers can be composed of two antibody molecules having the same antigen binding specificity and linked through reducible, disulfide, or a non-reducible thioether, bond (homodimer). Alternatively, the dimers can be composed of two different antibody molecules having binding specificity for two distinct antigens (heterodimer). These dimers are useful for inducing hyper-cross-linking of membrane antigens. The present invention further relates to the use of biologically active antibody dimers for the preferential killing or inhibition of selected cell populations in the treatment of diseases such as cancer and autoimmune disorders.

  • Patent number: 6898041
Abstract: A disk drive which can be used in particular under a low temperature environment is disclosed. The drive comprises a spindle motor (SPM) being a fluid dynamics bearing motor, and rotates a disk medium by the SPM. When an ambient temperature of the drive has changed to a low temperature, current consumption by the SPM increases to maintain steady rotation of the drive. When a CPU detects that current consumption by the SPM exceeds a specified value, the CPU restricts a current supplied to a voice coil motor (VCM) such that the total current amount does not exceed a specified maximum current capacity of the drive.

  • Patent number: 6897873
Abstract: A display control apparatus contains a video memory, a video memory controller, a color palette memory and a color palette replacer signal generator. The video memory stores display data that are read from a CD-ROM and contain header data (HA-HD), palette data (P0-P2) and bitmap data (BA-BD) in connection with four planes which are combined together to form one frame of picture. The header data contain a color palette pointer (CPP) and a color palette replacer instruction (CPP31) with respect to each of the planes. The video memory controller reads the palette data and bitmap data from the video memory in accordance with addresses designated by the header data. The color palette replacer signal generator generates a color palette replacer signal (COL) based on the header data so as to make determination whether to replace contents of color palettes with respect to the planes respectively.
