Patent number: 4884218Abstract: A knowledge system including an expert system and a complementary data base. The knowledge system is provided to answer requests, and each request has a record including a plurality of parameters and values for those parameters. The expert system is provided to process the record of a specific request to answer that request, and the complementary database stores a plurality of records of requests having known answers, and any request from a user is preprocessed by searching the complementary database for a record identical to the record of the request. If an identical record is found, the known answer to the request having that identical record is given to the user to answer his or her request; however if no identical record is found in the complementary database, the expert system is invoked to answer the request.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1987Date of Patent: November 28, 1989Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Palmer W. Patent number: 4878147Abstract: In an electromagnetic coil drive device an operation coil excites an electromagnet. A switching element is turned on and off by application of a pulse signal thereto and supplies the operation coil with a power supply voltage. A voltage detecting circuit detects the power supply voltage and a gain circuit delivers a closing level signal in accordance with the voltage detected by the voltage detecting circuit. The gain circuit also delivers a holding level signal based on the detected voltage after a predetermined period of time. The level of the holding level signal is higher than that of the closing level signal. A reference wave generating circuit generates a triangular wave. A comparing circuit compares the triangular wave with the closing level signal to thereby generate a closing pulse signal having a predetermined cycle.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1988Date of Patent: October 31, 1989Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Sakan Oyama, Koji Omori

Patent number: 4873606Abstract: A safety control device for an actuator of a flap solenoid valve, such as for an automatic transmission. The device includes a current control device which is connected to a shunt resistor for measuring the current through the solenoid valve and the current control device. It also includes a control package which measures the time between the starting of the power to the solenoid valve and the moment when the current reaches a threshold intensity. The control package compares this time with a time range which indicates the proper operation of the solenoid valve so that if the time falls outside this time range, the control package instructs the current control device to cut power to the solenoid valve.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1988Date of Patent: October 10, 1989Assignee: Regie Nationale des Usines RenaultInventor: Gerard Pannier

Patent number: 4860145Abstract: A protection circuit is provided for a tap switching line voltage regulator of the type which selectively switches in one of a predetermined number of taps on a winding of a transformer. The selective switching of the taps is controlled in response to the sensed load voltage to provide a regulated voltage to a load in the presence of a varying input line voltage. The tap switching line voltage regulator in response to the sensed load voltage controls the conductive state of a solid state series switching element in each of the switched tap lines. The protection circuit provides current limiting inductors in series with each of the solid state switching elements with all the inductors being wound on a common magnetic core. When switching from one tap to another tap, the tap switching line volage regulator in response to the sensed voltage operates to select an adjacent tap to the tap currently selected. Thus, tap switching proceeds in a sequential fashion up and down along the taps.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1985Date of Patent: August 22, 1989Assignee: Oneac CorporationInventor: August G. Patent number: 4855909Abstract: A forensic sample and tracking system includes a computer system which operates a data base and a read/write station. The assignment of an identifier in the data base and an identification code to be printed on a sample bottle label are coordinated by the computer. An identification code can then be read for verification after it is written. This permits automated verifying of identification codes in a heretofore unavailable manner.
