Abstract: The invention includes novel unibody binder constructions and the process of making same. The binder is composed of two plastic sheets comprising such material as polyvinyl chloride, polyolefin, polypropylene, polyvinyl acetate or other similar plastics. An uncompromised single piece of board or similar rigid material, such as chipboard, microflute board, corrugated board, fiberboard, etc., or a synthetic substrate, is then coated with a glue such as a resin glue, a U.V. adhesive, etc., on both sides and sandwiched between the plastic sheets. This sandwich is then formed into the unibody construction by welding the entire outer perimeter. At the time of welding, the air between the plastic sheets and the board is pressed or vacuumed out. To create the hinges on the binder, the unibody construction is then hydraulically creased to the extent necessary by using three moving blades to provide living hinges.

Abstract: A pipe elbow is provided having two parts, each part having an arcuate segment and a linking member for connecting to a run of standard pipe. The arcuate segment of the first part fits into the arcuate segment of the second part. By severing a portion of the arcuate segment of the first part at an angle needed for a specific run of pipe and inserting it into the arcuate segment of the second part, the assembled elbow will conform to the required angle. In addition, the arcuate segment of the first part has an inner aspect which is provided with an extended curved region which extends to the collar. The second part is provided with a lip which fits conformingly with the extended curved region of the first part in order to meet industry standards for minimum overlap of mating parts, even at very obtuse angles.

Abstract: The radial/rotary propulsion system of the present invention features a flywheel having concentric rings of permanent magnets attached to one or both sides. These permanent magnets interact with DC powered electromagnets which, when selectively energized, impart rotary motion to the flywheel. By arranging the permanent magnets in concentric rings, better control of both speed and torques may be obtained. In addition, in a regenerative mode, inertia of the flywheel is reconverted to electrical energy by either additional permanent magnet/coil combinations or through the switching of the electromagnet coils normally used for rotating the flywheel. In alternated embodiments, regeneration is accomplished with alternators interacting with other magnets of the flywheel. The regenerative mode is also helpful in braking the flywheel as its inertial energy is converted to electrical energy.

Abstract: An EL display device capable of reducing an average film resistance of an anode in an EL device as well as displaying an image with high definition, and electrical equipment including such an EL display device are provided. A light-shielding metal film 109 is provided on an anode 108 so as to conceal gaps between the pixels. Thus, an average film resistance of the anode 108 in the EL device is reduced. Furthermore, light leakage from the gaps between the pixels can be prevented, resulting in an image display with high definition.

Abstract: A magnetron comprising an anode portion, a cathode portion provided in a center of the anode portion, a cylindrical interaction space formed of the anode portion and the cathode portion, and iron magnetic pole pieces located at both ends of the interaction space in an tube axis direction thereof. A relationship between a thickness Tg (mm) of a tapered portion of the magnetic pole pieces and a magnetic flux Bg (mT, at 25° C.) of a center of the interaction space is set to satisfy 155<Bg/Tg<165. It is possible to obtain a magnetron with substantially constant oscillating efficiencies, and it is accordingly possible to stabilize outputs of the microwave oven and to enable easy control of heating food.

Abstract: An electronically commutated motor (4) has a permanent-magnet rotor (28) and has a stator (14) that has two winding phases (25, 26). During one rotor rotation of 360° el., firstly current is delivered to the one winding phase (25) within a first rotation angle range via an associated first semiconductor switch (68); and within a subsequent second rotation angle range, current is delivered to the other winding phase (26) via an associated second semiconductor switch (70). The motor further has a commutation apparatus for alternatingly switching ON the first semiconductor switch (68) and the second semiconductor switch (70).

Abstract: A doubly articulated module for attaching a first portion of a robotic assembly to a second portion of said assembly, said first portion being rotatable with respect to said second portion about a first axis substantially perpendicular to a first axis of the first portion and about a second axis substantially coaxial with said first axis. Preferably, the articulated module comprises servos. Several of the modules can be incorporated into arms, legs, torso, neck and head of a mannequin in order to animate as much of the mannequin as is required. Although the servos can be activated by directly wired controls or by remote radio-controlled devices, a preferred programmed system is provided for the computerized control of the modules so that the mannequin can be used for display or demonstration purposes.

Abstract: A switched reluctance machine uses a Hall-effect device to detect the flux in the flux path for each machine phase. The flux signal from the Hall-effect device is fed back to a controller which compares the flux feedback with a demand signal to produce an error signal. The error signal is used to control the machine flux using a control law function actuating timed switches for each phase.
