The operating loci of the upper shearing blade 3 and the lower shearing blade 4 are overlapped each other so that one falls inside the other, and the sheared surfaces of the metal plates 1 and 2 are formed into a bonded portion by plastic flow deformation. Therein, since a compressive force is applied onto the portions to be bonded, the portion being defined by the amount of overlap, and the portions are compressed to form a compressed portion after completion of bonding, the bonding strength enhances.

Abstract: The invention relates to a sensor device for use, for example, in an automatic milking device and, in particular, for detecting the positions of the teats of an animal which is to be milked. The sensor device comprises a number of radiation sources which generate non-divergent radiation beams which have different positions and/or directions which are known in the control unit. The reflections from the irradiated object are detected using detectors, and there are means for distinguishing between the reflections from the various radiation sources, so that the control unit is able to establish the position of the object.

The emitting device respectively emits a plurality of light beams whose wave lengths are different from each other. Then, the light receiving device receives respective reflection lights from an information record medium of the emitted respective light beams, and outputs light reception signals respectively corresponding to the received reflection lights. After that, the determining device determines a type of the information record medium in accordance with a ratio between the outputted respective light reception signals.

Abstract: A light beam emitted from a semiconductor-laser light source is projected onto a diffraction-grating scale after passing through a collimator lens, a beam splitter and a central portion of an annular reflection grating. Two diffracted light beams reflected from the diffraction-grating scale are projected onto the annular reflection grating. The annular reflection grating diffracts the light beams projected onto all portions thereon to a substantially original direction to be projected onto and diffracted from the same position on the diffraction-grating scale. The diffracted light beams are superposed and the resultant light beam is returned to the beam splitter. The light beam is guided by the beam splitter in a direction different from the semiconductor-laser light source, and is detected by a photosensor as an interference light beam.

Abstract: In an ionization device of a mass spectrometer, an abnormality diagnosis device or control section switches a change-over switch without lighting up a filament, and reads a trap current and a total current supplied to the filament, by current/voltage converting sections. Then, by determining whether the trap current and the total current are zero or more, a trouble due to a contact between the filament or a trap electrode and an ionization chamber is found. When it is determined that a condition is normal, the filament is turned on and the feedback control is operated. Also, the trap current and the total current are respectively read, and in accordance with the values thereof, there is found a deficiency due to a shift of the attachment position of the filament or the trap electrode, or a burnout of the filament.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for improving the image quality of positron emission tomography is disclosed. This is achieved by analysing individual photomultiplier tubes for true events. The apparatus includes a photomultiplier tube for generating a photomultiplier tube signal. A series of pull up resistors generates a code signal identifying the photomultiplier tube. A clock generates a time stamp to the photomultiplier tube signal. A bus buffer generates an encoded signal. A position computing device calculates the position of the photomultiplier tube. An image computer generates an image from a plurality of encoded signals. A display displays the image. Analysing data from individual photomultiplier tubes results in smaller areas and smaller amounts of data to be processed. This then permits smaller time franm windows to be used. The use of time stamps also permits data before and after an event to be recorded.

Abstract: A sample analyzing apparatus comprises a micro-aperture probe, which is provided with a light passage aperture having a diameter shorter than wavelengths of light, the light passage aperture being formed at a radiating end of the micro-aperture probe, and a light source, which produces light for sample analysis. An incidence optical system causes the light for sample analysis to enter into the micro-aperture probe from an entry end of the micro-aperture probe. A sample supporting member supports a sample at a position that is exposed to near field light radiated out of the radiating end of the micro-aperture probe. An image sensor receives light having been scattered by the sample and detects an intensity distribution pattern of the scattered light. A display device displays the detected intensity distribution pattern.
