  • Publication number: 20110126689
Abstract: A stringed musical instrument employs springs to apply tension to corresponding musical strings. Each spring is chosen and configured for its ability to impart a string tension generally matched to the appropriate tension of the string at perfect tune. Preferably, the spring is selected and arranged so that the tension in the string maintains at or near perfect tune even as the string elongates or contracts over time. In one embodiment, once a string is placed in appropriate tune, a mechanical visual indicator is set. As such, if tune of the string changes due to string elongation or contraction, the change is reflected by misalignment of the mechanical visual indicator even if the change cannot be aurally detected. Perfect tune can be reestablished by realigning the indicator. In another embodiment, a force modulating member is interposed between a spring and its corresponding musical string.

  • Publication number: 20110126690
Abstract: A tremolo device with a movable bridge, an adjustment device, and a support frame is implemented on an acoustic guitar, with features that can also be employed on an electric guitar or other stringed instruments. The movable bridge holds strings of the musical instrument in tension. The adjustment device, such as a tremolo bar, moves the bridge to change the tension of the strings. The support frame engages the bridge at a first area and engages the musical instrument at a larger second area. When the tremolo device is used, the support frame receives a force over the first area and transmits a corresponding force to the musical instrument over the larger second area, reducing the pressure that would be experienced by the musical instrument. The support frame also transmits string vibration received through the bridge to the instrument body to produce proper acoustic tones.

One method includes receiving a first set of input sounds and a second set of input sounds, where each of the first and second sets of input sounds are processed to identify one of a tone, intensity, or frequency, and a duration. The method defines a node for each identified input sound and a link between the input sounds of the first and second sets of input sounds. The nodes and links from the first and second sets of input sounds create a respective first and second finite state automata. A history value is defined for processing the nodes of the first and second sets of input sounds, and the history value defines a number of previous nodes that will be identical in each of the first and second sets of input sounds before a particular node is shared between the first and second sets of input sounds.

Abstract: A materials handling apparatus for aiding in loading and transporting various materials has three major components, a wheeled cart, a truncated conical cylinder which is carried by the cart and a compaction lid which. provide the apparatus with the capability of being operated in three different modes. In the first mode, a conventional trash bag is placed inside the cylinder and the lid can be placed atop the cylinder. In this mode, the apparatus operates as a conventional trash can. In a second mode, the cylinder in placed within a trash bag to protect it from being damaged by materials such as tree and shrub clippings or other materials which could tear the bag. In the third mode no trash bag is used, the materials are loaded into the cylinder, and when loading is complete, the cylinder is lifted off of the materials for direct deposit into a disposal site.

Abstract: A postage label dispensing system for dispensing adhesive-backed labels includes a conveyance system for displacing a supply of label material along a feed path wherein the label material includes a face material having an adhesive backing and a liner material detachably bonded to the adhesive backing. The adhesive backing defines a pair of longitudinal adhesive strips and a non-adhesive region disposed therebetween. The liner material has a longitudinal cut disposed adjacent to, and aligned with, the non-adhesive region to define a pair of liner strips. A peeler plow is disposed downstream of a bending means which induces a bend in the label material along an axis substantially parallel to the longitudinal cut, i.e., in an area corresponding to the non-adhesive region, which bend produces an opening between the face material and the liner strips.

Abstract: Optimum transfer of an optically discernible image from an ink supply to a substrate is effected. In one embodiment, a three dimensional image is created on the surface of an ink transfer medium layer. The height at a specific location of the three dimensional image corresponds to the ink volume to be transferred to that specific location in the printed image, allowing the color intensity to change throughout the printed image.

Several forme cylinders and several transfer cylinders, which cooperate to print a web, are located on each of the at least two frame parts. The distance between the two frame parts is less when the printing unit is closed than it is when the printing unit is open. The printing unit includes at least two web guiding elements. A first tangent is established by a transfer cylinder of a stationary one of the frame parts. A second tangent is established by the at least two web guiding elements. The first tangent and the second tangent are spaced from each other at a distance.
