Publication number: 20110126689Abstract: A stringed musical instrument employs springs to apply tension to corresponding musical strings. Each spring is chosen and configured for its ability to impart a string tension generally matched to the appropriate tension of the string at perfect tune. Preferably, the spring is selected and arranged so that the tension in the string maintains at or near perfect tune even as the string elongates or contracts over time. In one embodiment, once a string is placed in appropriate tune, a mechanical visual indicator is set. As such, if tune of the string changes due to string elongation or contraction, the change is reflected by misalignment of the mechanical visual indicator even if the change cannot be aurally detected. Perfect tune can be reestablished by realigning the indicator. In another embodiment, a force modulating member is interposed between a spring and its corresponding musical string.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2011Publication date: June 2, 2011Applicant: InTune Technologies LLCInventors: Cosmos Lyles, Paul Dowd

Publication number: 20110126690Abstract: A tremolo device with a movable bridge, an adjustment device, and a support frame is implemented on an acoustic guitar, with features that can also be employed on an electric guitar or other stringed instruments. The movable bridge holds strings of the musical instrument in tension. The adjustment device, such as a tremolo bar, moves the bridge to change the tension of the strings. The support frame engages the bridge at a first area and engages the musical instrument at a larger second area. When the tremolo device is used, the support frame receives a force over the first area and transmits a corresponding force to the musical instrument over the larger second area, reducing the pressure that would be experienced by the musical instrument. The support frame also transmits string vibration received through the bridge to the instrument body to produce proper acoustic tones.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2010Publication date: June 2, 2011Inventor: Predice D. Publication number: 20110126728Abstract: A printing unit of a printing machine is configured having at least two frame parts, a spacing between which can be modified. Several forme cylinders and several transfer cylinders, which cooperate to print a web, are located on each of the at least two frame parts. The distance between the two frame parts is less when the printing unit is closed than it is when the printing unit is open. The printing unit includes at least two web guiding elements. A first tangent is established by a transfer cylinder of a stationary one of the frame parts. A second tangent is established by the at least two web guiding elements. The first tangent and the second tangent are spaced from each other at a distance.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2009Publication date: June 2, 2011Inventor: Christoph Alfons Schmitt

Publication number: 20110126729Abstract: In a printing press including a printing section to print patterns, a register apparatus captures an image of register marks printed in the printing section, and causes positions of the patterns, which are to be printed in the printing section, to be in register on the basis of positions of the register marks in the image. The register apparatus comprises: a front surface camera or a back surface camera for capturing an image of an edge of a print sheet together with the register marks, the print sheet already subjected to printing in the printing section; and a first-color register adjustment mechanism, a second-color register adjustment mechanism, a third-color register adjustment mechanism and a fourth-color register adjustment mechanism for adjusting the positions of the patterns to be printed in the printing section, on the basis of the positions of the register marks in the image and a position of the edge of the print sheet in the image.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 29, 2010Publication date: June 2, 2011Applicant: KOMORI CORPORATIONInventors: Tomoyuki MORONO, Tadahiko IINO, Megumi KIKUCHI

Publication number: 20110126730Abstract: A method of microcontact printing comprises (a) providing an elastomeric stamp comprising a printing surface inked with an ink comprising surface-functionalizing molecules, (b) treating the inked printing surface of the stamp with solvent, and (c) contacting the treated inked printing surface of the stamp to a surface of a substrate. The printing surface of the stamp comprises a first relief pattern, or the surface of the substrate comprises a second relief pattern, or both of the surfaces comprise the relief patterns, and a pattern of surface-functionalizing molecules is transferred to the substrate according to one or both of the relief patterns.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2009Publication date: June 2, 2011Inventors: Tracie J. Publication number: 20110126734Abstract: The present disclosure relates to surface-modified zirconia nanoparticles, methods for making and using the same, and high index of refraction films made therefrom. The provided zirconia nanoparticles are surface modified with ligands that include N-hydroxyurea functionalities. The provided ligands also can contain compatibilizing groups that allow the provided surface-modified zirconia nanoparticles to be incorporated into an organic matrix. High index of refraction films can be made using these organic matrices.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 16, 2010Publication date: June 2, 2011Inventors: Guy D. JOLY, Nathan E. Schultz, Encai Hao
