  • Patent number: 5651488
Abstract: A stacking device in a printer or copier for stacking a strip-like, prefolded recording medium has, as feed arrangement, a motor-driven feed roller (13) and a plurality of adjacently arranged pressure rollers for pressing the recording medium (10) against the feed roller (13). The two outer pressure rollers (16/1, 16/2) in respect of the edge regions of the recording medium are designed as guide pressure rollers which change their inclination of the axes of rotation in dependence on the transporting direction of the paper or recording medium and thus make the recording medium taut between the guide pressure rollers. This prevents undesirable bunching, creasing or deformation caused by slack in the paper between the pressure rollers. In order to achieve this change in the inclination of the axes of rotation, the guide pressure rollers (16/1, 16/2) contain an eccentric axle arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5501386
Abstract: In a tape transport portion of a tape recording and reproducing apparatus, the height of a tape is regulated without applying an excessive force to the tape. In a tape guide roller having a roller (9) which is brought in rotatable contact with a tape (2) and a flange (10) which regulates the height of the tape (2), the flange (10) has a tapered surface (15) opposing the inner surface of the tape (2) and a force for regulating the height of the tape (2) is generated by the cooperation of both a tape regulating end face (13) of the flange (10) and the tapered surface (15). Since the tape height regulating force is generated by two different parts, i.e., the tape regulating end face (13) of the flange (10) and the tapered surface (15), the tape (2) can be prevented from being buckled by a force applied thereto from a tape regulating end face of a flange. Thus, the tape guide roller does not damage the tape.

  • Patent number: 5370292
Abstract: A tape driving mechanism for a magnetic recording apparatus has a capstan rotated to advance a magnetic tape by pinching the magnetic tape between the capstan and a pinch roller. The pinch roller is pressed onto the magnetic tape against the capstan. The capstan surface is coated with a diamond-like carbon film which is smooth and highly wear-resistant. The difference between the tangential speed of the capstan and the tape transfer speed is almost zero. Thus, the state of contact is static. A static frictional coefficient between the diamond-like carbon film of the capstan and the magnetic tape is almost equal to twice the static frictional coefficient between the metal surface of the capstan and the magnetic tape in the conventional tape driving mechanism. The tape driving force thus remains sufficient even if the pressure exerted by the pinch roller is reduced to half the value employed in the conventional tape driving mechanism. The diamond-like carbon film may be coated on a rough surface of the capstan.

  • Patent number: 5188273
Abstract: An expander roller for running webs of paper, textile material or the like has a straight metallic or plastic core and an outer layer consisting of two helically convoluted strips of rubber or other elastomeric material. The two convoluted webs are mirror images of each other with reference to a plane which extends between them and is normal to the axis of the core. The external surface of the outer layer is profiled in that it is provided with grooves cut into or otherwise formed in the strips and forming helices as a result of convolution of the respective strips onto the core. Each helical groove is adjacent a deformable lip which defines a portion of the external surface of the outer layer and can yield in response to engagement with a running web. The strips are permanently or detachably bonded to the peripheral surface of the core.

  • Patent number: 5178313
Abstract: An apparatus for uniformly applying a compressive force against a filament to pneumatically drive the filament or fiber optic cable against a capstan without any concentrated amount of stress at any point on the filament is effectuated by pneumatically forcing the filament into an equatorial V-groove defined in the capstan. Pneumatic pressure is applied to a predefined segment of the capstan by a pneumatic shoe having an internal shoe pressure chamber. The pressurized gas or air is applied to the segment from the chamber within the shoe into the proximity of the equatorial V-groove on the equator of a disc shaped capstan. The V-groove is vented to atmosphere so that the cable is forced or blown into the V-groove. Side and end clearances between the rotating capstan and the shoe are sized to allow the viscosity of the pressurized gas to operate to retard the escape of the pressurized gas from the predefined segment of the capstan.

  • Patent number: 5160078
Abstract: A tape guide which includes a roller having a fixed lower flange and a tape contacting portion having a width less than the width of the tape. A compliant member formed from a flat spring is mounted on the top of the roller opposite the flange. The compliant member includes an outwardly and upwardly tapered peripheral portion extending beyond the diameter of the tape contacting portion of the roller. Since the tape width is greater than the width of the tape contacting portion of the roller, the tape is forced against the tapered portion of the compliant member. The compliant member thus biases the tape downward against the lower flange by applying a uniform distributed load against the upper edge of the tape. The tape is prevented from being vertically displaced regardless of variations in the width of the tape. Variations in the wrap angle will not affect the loading on the tape.
