Including Pivoted Gripping Member Patents (Class 24/489)
  • Patent number: 4706347
Abstract: A clip (8) for a hanger has a pair of gripping arms (9,10) pivoted together (11) which have respective free ends (13,14) which are normally biassed together. The free ends (13,14) can be opened up by pressure being applied across the respective upper portions of the gripping arms (9,10). This enables an article of clothing or the like to be inserted therebetween. A tongue (17) can be pivoted (20) on the upper end of one of the gripping arms (9) to engage within a groove in the top edge of the other gripping arm (10). This results in the free ends (13,14) being locked together therefore securing the article of clothing therebetween. An edge (22) of a flange (19) from which the tongue (17) extends, is required to be forced past projections (21) on either side of the groove to locate the tongue (17) within the groove. The edge (22) forces the top end of the arm (10) outwardly which results in the securement of the free ends (13,14) together.

  • Patent number: 4669152
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved closure for ESD bags which provides an effective closure without causing the generation of additional charges nor blocking of the visibility of the component in the bag. More significantly, the present invention provides an effective yet easy to use closure which does not cause injury or irritation to the fingertips or fingernails of the ESD worker. The invention includes a pair of elongate rails which are substantially parallel when in a closed position. Support means are provided between the rails and a hinge for permitting the rails to move from the closed position to an open position. A latch slideable between a first closed position and a second open position maintains the rails in close relation when the invention is in use. The sliding motion of the latch obviates the necessity to pry open a snap as was necessary with the snap-stick of the prior art. In a particular embodiment, the supports are notched to assist in the maintenance of the closure.

  • Patent number: 4561676
Abstract: A child safety belt for attachment across a seat having an attaching side rod element for releasable securement of the belt thereto. The belt comprises a strap having elastic properties and a detachable securing buckle is secured to at least one end of the strap. The securing buckle has a pair of jaw members pivotally interconnected on a pivot axis to move from a closed to an open position. A first of the jaw members has a throat portion to receive the side rod element therein. A second of the jaw members has a strap attaching end rearwardly and offset from the pivot axis in a direction toward the first jaw member whereby tension on the strap urges the second jaw member against the first jaw member when the side rod is received in the throat portion and the jaw members are brought to the closed position.

  • Patent number: 4487449
Abstract: A vehicle roof provided with an opening closable by a cover and a frame of substantially U-shaped cross section extending along the edge of the roof opening. One side of the substantially U-shaped frame is higher than the other side thereof, and the higher side extends outside of the vehicle in the form of a flange for covering the edge of the vehicle roof defining the opening. A clamping arrangement for pressing the flange against the outer surface of the roof is provided, near the higher side, inside of the vehicle. To facilitate the installation of such a vehicle cover, especially in the case of a used vehicle, the clamping arrangement comprises a plurality of retaining plates which are pressed against the vehicle roof by screws. When the screws have been loosened, the retaining plates can be pivoted so that the frame can be introduced from outside of the vehicle into the roof opening without removing the retaining plates and screws.
