  • Patent number: 8718052
Abstract: A method and system for connecting signal paths in a circuit arrangement with multiband capability for processing and/or influencing signals in radio communication, on the basis of which at least the transmission paths of a corresponding circuit arrangement are activated or deactivated on the basis of the presence of a transmitted signal from a terminal which is operated with the circuit arrangement. The transmission paths, which are deactivated in a basic state of the circuit arrangement, are periodically checked in succession for the presence of a transmitted signal from the terminal with a multiplexer that forms a functional component of a detection unit and that is switched through by a controller for sequential scanning of the transmission paths for the presence of such a transmitted signal. If a signal is present, only a transmission path for the correct frequency band of the transmitted signal is activated and continuously checked for the presence of a transmitted signal.

Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for programming connections through a multi-stage switch fabric. The present invention utilizes load-balancing, blocking recovery, background rebalancing, and rollback algorithms to select and manage connection balance on center stage switches in the multi-stage switch fabric for new and modified connections. The load-balancing algorithm attempts to spread the multi-connection slices across center stage switches as evenly as possible, to increase the probability that future multi-connection slices can be added without needing to rearrange existing slices. Advantageously, the present invention is efficient by making the best possible local decision for one multi-connection slice at a time, without considering other multi-connection slices that may also need center switch assignments. Additionally blocking recovery, rollback and background rebalancing features are also supported.

Abstract: A technique for transferring network traffic between a radio base station (RBS) node and a gateway (GW) node of a mobile telecommunications network is described. A method embodiment comprises the steps of providing a first transport link and a second transport link between the RBS node and the GW node. The first transport link is configured to transport network traffic of a higher priority and the second transport link is configured to transport network traffic of a lower priority. The method further comprises distributing network traffic over the transport links depending on an assignment between the transport links and priority settings associated with the network traffic.

Abstract: Crossbar circuitry has an array of data input and output paths where the data output paths are transverse to the data input paths. At each intersection between a data input path and a data output path, a crossbar cell is provided which includes a configuration storage circuit programmable to store a routing value, a transmission circuit, and an arbitration circuit. In a transmission mode of operation, the transmission circuit is responsive to the routing value being a first value, indicating that the data input path should be coupled to the data output path, to detect the data input along the data input path, and to output an indication of that data on the data output path at the associated intersection. In an arbitration mode of operation, the arbitration circuitry is operable to selectively modify the voltage on said plurality of bit lines in order to apply an adaptive priority scheme.

Abstract: Techniques in a wireless device for use in accessing a common data application with a service network which is external to a plurality of wireless networks are described. The device receives a data session configuration file which includes a list of the plurality of wireless networks mapped against authentication credentials associated with each wireless network. The device communicates with a current one the wireless networks. The device selects from the list one of the authentication credentials that is associated with the current wireless network. The device submits, via the current wireless network, the selected authentication credentials for establishing a packet data session via the current wireless network. The device then accesses, via the current wireless network using the packet data session, the common data application with the service network which is external to the current wireless network.

Abstract: Implementing a standardized interpretive engine includes externalizing a business requirement into a component class of a data control structure, defining a solution to the business requirement, entering the solution into metadata within the component class, and pulling data from a data warehouse into the component class based upon the business requirement. Pulling the data includes aggregating sub-tending data from the data warehouse. The aggregation is specified to a level requested via the component class. Implementing the standardized interpretive engine also includes performing a calculation on the data in accordance with the business requirement. The data is pulled away from the data warehouse and forward to the component class, such that a single data source associated with the data is usable multiple times for a plurality of component classes.

Abstract: Techniques for inserting a new node into a communications path of existing nodes of a 3GPP network are described herein. According to one embodiment, state information is captured within a transport protocol layer of a first node. The state information pertains to an existing communications session between a second node and a third node, while the first node routing packets exchanged between the second and third nodes via the existing communications session. The transport protocol layer of the first node is then configured using the captured state information to enable the transport protocol layer of the first node to independently communicate with a transport protocol layer of the second node and the third node respectively without terminating the existing communications session.

Abstract: A high-speed switch that includes a switch fabric, and both high-speed serial ports and data converter physical ports. A first set of data converter physical ports may perform analog-to-digital conversions, such that an external analog signal may be converted to a digital input signal on the switch. The converted digital input signal may then be routed through the switch fabric in accordance with a serial data protocol. A second set of data converter physical ports may perform digital-to-analog conversions, such that an internal digital signal received from the switch fabric may be converted to an analog output signal on the switch. The converted analog output signal may then be transmitted to an external destination in accordance with a serial data protocol.

Abstract: In a radio access network, novel systems and methods reduce processing delay, and improve integration with IP networks, by separating user data from connection management and control data at a Node B or at a base station. The user data are routed to an IP (Internet Protocol) switch, whereas the connection management and control data are routed to a centralized radio network controller (RNC). Pursuant to a second embodiment of the invention, a centralized RNC provides improved radio resource management (RRM) functionality by handing all connection management and control data for a plurality of Node B's, thereby simplifying the switching of user data throughout the radio access network. Pursuant to a third embodiment of the invention, a smart IP switch is equipped to switch user data without core network (CN) involvement. Downlink user data are switched independently of uplink user data.

Abstract: Switching between communication ports of a notebook is typically accomplished using an off-chip local area network (LAN) switch or an off-chip high speed analog multiplexer. This off-chip component is disadvantageous for several reasons, including: added cost of an additional component; increased overall power consumption because transmit amplitude loss; and reduced cable reach and link performance due to hybrid mismatch and signal distortions. To reduce cost and preserve electrical and networking performance, an integrated switch is provided to multiplex signals of a networking communication chip to multiple network paths.
