Abstract: An apparatus for grinding a blade used in, for example, a glass or hedge trimmer including grinder support and a blade mount provided close to each other. The grinder support holds a grinder, which has a round grindstone, in such a manner that the grinding surface of the grindstone can be oriented not only horizontally and vertically but also in an inclined direction so as to meet the action angle of the tooth of the blade; and the blade mount includes a horizontal surface section and a sloped surface section so that the trimmer blade is place thereon when ground by the grindstone held on the grinder support.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for sharpening a cutting tool, including the grinding and honing of the cutting tool is described and illustrated. The apparatus comprises a base plate with a biasing frame mounted on the base plate. A tool holder is clamped to the biasing frame and releasably clamps a cutting tool, having an edge which is to be sharpened. A variety of tool holders allow the sharpening of different types of cutting tools. The cutting tool, and particularly, the edge thereof, is held in a stationary position and an abrasive member is moved with respect to the cutting edge of the tool. The apparatus forces the cutting edge of the tool against the abrasive member with a uniform amount of pressure and at a selected angle. Both the pressure and the selected angle are easily adjustable by the user. When the major variables, such as angle of sharpening and the pressure between the abrasive element and tool are fixed, an accurate, correct and reproducible sharpening will occur.
Abstract: This device is a low cost and an easy to use fixture for sharpening wood jointer and thickness planer blades or knives with extreme accuracy and sharpness. The device holds two blades at opposing angles creating a flat plane upon which a flat sharpening stone or abrasive device can employ repeated reciprocal movements. The holder is made of a rigid material with a bolt down clamp, which secures the two individual blades at the proper and precise angle. The design also employs individual adjustment screws, which elevates each end of both blades, allowing the user to sharpen blades of various widths. Once the rough sharpening is complete the device is then staged for the final honing of the blades. This feature makes it possible to sharpen the blades razor sharp as well as grind a secondary bevel on the blade.
Abstract: An apparatus for holding a tool having a cutting edge in a predetermined abrading orientation with respect to a tool abrading apparatus. The apparatus comprises a base member supportable on the tool abrading apparatus and adapted to support a tool thereon. A positioning member is movably attached to the base member for selective abutting contact with the tool. An adjustment assembly is attached to the base member for selectively advancing and retracting the positioning member relative to the base member to position the tool into the predetermined abrading orientation. A tool retaining member is removably attached to the base to selectively retain the tool on the base member in the predetermined abrading orientation.

Abstract: A fixture for holding and aligning a blade of a hand tool during sharpening with a sharpening apparatus which includes a base member and a clamping plate. The base member includes a front side, rear side, a clamping surface, a bottom surface and a guiding means. The guiding means is selectively positioned along the bottom surface between the front side and rear side. The base member further includes an aligning means which projects above the clamping surface for positioning the blade at a predetermined angle with respect to an axis of the guiding means. The clamping plate is removably attached to the base member by a pair of clamping means. The guiding means is configured for easy removal and seating in an elongated mating recess in a support plate attached to the sharpening apparatus. The guiding means allows fully guided pivotal and linear movement of the blade with respect to an abrasive surface of the sharpening apparatus.

Abstract: A new and improved blade sharpening angle guide for aligning and holding a knife blade or the like at a proper angle to a sharpening stone for manual sharpening of the cutting edge, the blade sharpening angle guide comprising: an elongated curved block having a longitudinal slot therethrough wherein a knife blade or the like may be releasedly held with the blade cutting edge extending a distance outside the slot whereby controlling the angle of the blade to a sharpening stone when the blade and block combination are drawn across the sharpening stone.
Abstract: A portable blade sharpening system including a sharpening device having a main body and a clamping bar for securing a blade to be sharpened. Guide arms having openings are attached to the main body for receiving and guiding a support rod. The support rod is attached to a sharpening hone holder and is movable between a retracted and extended position. The sharpening hone holder has a channel for housing the support rod when it is in the retracted position. The clamping bar includes recessions for providing it with a lowprofile adjacent the clamped blade. The openings of the guide arms are substantially rectangular so that a consistent cutting angle is maintained.
