  • Publication number: 20080132391
Abstract: A device for resistance exercise of muscle groups that cross two or more joints such as bicep group, tricep group, quadriceps group, and hamstring group. The device comprises a primary cam or gear fixed to the frame of an appropriate exercise machine for working the desired body part, and a secondary cam or gear which, when rotated, tracks around the primary cam or gear. Resistance is provided with a cable, belt, chain, or other means. When properly positioned user applies force to the contact point, the device moves both desired joints simultaneously through a range of motion while under a predictable resistance. The device provides an improved range of movement while under resistance, thereby supplying a greater extension and contraction of the desired muscle or muscle group than prior art devices.

  • Patent number: 7278958
Abstract: A variable resistance physical exercise apparatus is provided which provides improved features over prior art devices in that it is more compact, provides a linear resistance profile to the user and provides a variety of modes of operation. The device comprises a motor driven bi-directional linear translation mechanism to vary the effective length of a lever arm and therefore vary the weight of resistance to the user. An alternative embodiment includes a spring winder drum pulley combination.

Abstract: An elastic resistance exercise device includes an endless elastic resistance member that returns to its original or near original shape and length after being stretched. The elastic member is loosely encased by an endless, gathered fabric sleeve that permits the elastic member to stretch several times its original length and also limits the amount of stretch of the elastic member. Two handgrips are connected to the fabric encased elastic member, and the handgrips are made of a material which is soft and compressible by a user and which returns to its original shape or near its original shape after it has been compressed.

  • Patent number: 7276018
Abstract: An exercise chair with a base frame with upright sides that support a pivoting backrest with a pivoting left arm and a pivoting right arm and a seat therein, with pivotally coupled leg members all that function sitting up or lying down. Each arm member has a reciprocating handle and each leg member has foot pegs. Resistance is provided to each member by being pivotally coupled to bidirectional resistance hydraulic cylinders. The rear side of the backrest has pivotally attached, laterally, telescoping arms, each supporting a floating pulley with a cable looped through it with one end of the cable connected to a system of pulleys with spring resistance, and the other end of the cable, having a handle that can be pulled by the users hands or extended to the feet.

  • Patent number: 7270630
Abstract: Novel apparatus and methods enhance the ability of a rowing machine to provide a full body workout by increasing the range of movement possible during a rowing stroke, thereby producing increased strength, muscle mass and/or range of movement. These benefits are achieved by use of, in conjunction with a rowing machine, a handle assembly uniquely configured such that, when a user of the rowing machine grasps the handle assembly and performs an exercise routine which includes a pull phase of a stroke, the handle assembly defines a space in which the body of the user may be received during the pull phase. As a result, the user may extend the pull phase of the stroke.

  • Patent number: 7250022
Abstract: An exercise machine has resilient elongate members for providing balanced resistance in the form of elongate resilient members oriented horizontally such that the intermediate portion of the elongate members contact a fulcrum of the exercise machine. The user adjusts the amount of resistance provided by capturing different combinations and numbers of resilient elongate members. A cable and pulley system ensures a long stroke so that the use can perform a wide variety of exercises in comfortable positions.
