  • Patent number: 5315788
Abstract: A low friction tape adhesively connected to a movable vehicle door glass for isolating the door glass from a rubber glass run channel and providing a low friction surface for slidably engaging the glass run channel to prohibit glass chatter and noise created by the sliding engagement of the door glass within the glass run channel. The glass run channel is housed within a stationary frame portion of the vehicle door and is utilized to support and guide the door glass as well as seal the door glass to the vehicle door. Separate segments of the low friction tape are applied to the vertical edges and the periphery of the sides of the door glass to prohibit direct contact of the door glass and the glass run channel. Due to the curvature of the door glass, the low friction tape must be applied in several separate segments so that wrinkling of the low friction tape is avoided when applying the tape segments to the door glass.

  • Patent number: 5291687
Abstract: A window assembly including a sliding window supported within a U-shaped window track utilizes a compressible foam strip with memory to prevent the accumulation of debris in the window track. After the foam strip has been cut to the length of the window track, it is compressed and pressed into place so as to substantially fill the window track to prevent an accumulation of debris therein, and yet not interfere with movement of the sliding window. In this regard, the foam strip is fitted to the window track so that as the foam strip expands, its cross-sectional dimensions are such that the window may be supported on a window-supporting rail with little or no contact between the window and the foam strip. After debris which would otherwise have accumulated within the window track is collected on the foam strip, the foam strip is removed from the window track.

Abstract: For self-closing a sliding door, e.g. of a showcase, combinations of belts and sprockets, cables and pulleys, rods and springs and the like, which have proved difficult to construct, service and replace are replaced by one or more constant force springs associated with a spring-retention cavity or other spring retainer. This permits the doors to be easily removed for servicing and for improved access to the interior of the showcase. Upon door removal, no self-closing apparatus still links the door to the case. The parts are simple and easy to replace, few moving parts are involved and the system is applicable both for new construction and for retrofitting to existing cases.

  • Patent number: 4733499
Abstract: The track for the panel of a sliding door or window confines a locating device with two resilient leaves which have first end portions secured to the bottom part of the track and second end portions normally extending upwardly into the path of movement of the rim of a wheel at the underside of the panel. The second end portions of the leaves are disposed between the first end portions and define a gap wherein the lowermost portion of the rim comes to rest after the rim has been caused to roll over one of the leaves and to be arrested by the upwardly extending second end portion of the other leaf. If the panel is to be shifted to a different position, it is pushed with a force which suffices to enable the rim of the wheel to depress the second end portion of one of the leaves whereupon the rim rolls over the one leaf toward a different position. A foot can be clamped to the track to positively prevent the panel from moving beyond a selected position.

  • Patent number: 4723374
Abstract: A cantilevered sliding gate made up of a number of panels is disclosed. The panels are joined by post-tensioning rods, carried within horizontal members of the gate and extending substantially the length of horizontal members of the gate. During gate assembly, a tensile stress is induced in the post-tensioning means, which stress is transmitted to the horizontal member as a compressive stress. The resulting stress pattern results in a stiffening effect on the gate assembly, permitting lighter-weight construction than previously possible. The gate is mounted on vertical supports for movement in a plane defined by the supports.
