  • Patent number: 8777881
Abstract: A handheld massage device includes an actuator mechanism and a massage unit received in an outer housing. The actuator includes a motor, a bearing and a tilting piece having a first shaft coupled with the motor and a second shaft fitted into the bearing. The crank-shaped first and second shafts do not lie on a straight line. The massage unit has a base plate and massage elements mounted on the base plate. The massage elements protrude from one end of the outer housing. The bearing is fitted in the base plate. Because the first and second shafts form an angle therebetween, the base plate is tilted and swings like a conical pendulum. Therefore, the massage elements on the base plate move back and forth along a direction of an axle of the motor, thereby providing kneading and percussion massages on the user's body.

  • Patent number: 8419662
Abstract: A hand held tool 10 has a handle 14, a contact member 16, and an electric motor 12. The contact member has a contact surface portion 17 lying in a first plane. The motor 12 has a stator 23 and an armature 19. The armature 19 is able to move with non-rotary translational motion relative to the stator 23 in a second plane which is parallel to the first plane. One of the stator 23 and the armature 19 is attached to the handle 14, while the other is attached to the contact member 16. Relative motion of the stator 23 and armature 19 imparts relative motion between the handle 14 and the contact member 16. A resilient coupling 18 is coupled between the handle 14 and the contact member 16 and applies a bias against the relative motion between the handle 14 and contact member 16.

  • Patent number: 8388561
Abstract: A device and methods for treating a subject with dysphagia or other neurological disease, neurological disorder, neurological injury, neurological impairment or neurodegenerative disease that affects voluntary motor control of the hyoid, pharynx, larynx, or oropharyngeal area is disclosed. A device of the invention generally comprises a vibrotactile stimulator for applying at least one stimulus to the outside surface of a subject's neck; a connector for attaching the vibrotactile stimulator to an outside surface of the subject's neck, and a switch control communicatively connected to the vibrotactile stimulator to selectively engage a manual stimulation module and/or automatic stimulation module. Stimulation of an outside surface of the throat area of a subject by a device of the invention stimulates a swallowing reflex in the subject.

  • Publication number: 20130030335
Abstract: A compression device can treat edema with a number of curved shells, each having an internal pad. A ligature network employing tensioners is routed across the shells for compressing them. Tensioners on at least some of the shells can separately adjust tension in different portions of the ligature network. The ligature network is (a) releasably mounted on the shells, and (b) repositionable to allow spatial adjustment of compression forces produced by the compression device. By adjusting the routing of the ligature network across the shells, tailored compression forces are provided. With a body part embraced by the padded shells, tension is separately adjusted in different portions of the ligature network to provide different compression forces at spaced positions along the plurality of padded shells.
