Abstract: A device and a method of vibratory massage. The device produces acoustic vibrations of variable frequency in a frequency range of 250-350 Hz to stimulate fast-adapting mechano-receptors in muscles, tendons and joints, that have a peak of vibrating sensitivity at these frequencies. The device has a flexible vibrating pad mounted on a housing. The housing contains a mechanical vibrator and an electronic circuit and power supply that generate the low frequencies and cause the vibrations of the mechanical vibrator. According to the method, a flexible vibrating pad is applied to a tissue in one of two ways, tangential or normal. To maximize the afferent input to the Central Nervous System, a vibratory stimulation is applied not only to the pain afflicted area, but also to symmetrical areas on the contralateral side of the body and similar zones according to the anterior-posterior symmetry.

  • Patent number: 5593381
Abstract: A treatment and stimulation device provided as a compact, portable unit having an applicator capable of horizontal and vertical movements for manipulation of the skin and underlying tissue under electronic circuit control. In a preferred embodiment, the applicator is provided with reversible rotation directed against the skin to provide horizontal movement having uneven angles of deflection, and vertical up/down movement is supplied by a solenoid. By virtue of the electronic control, these movements are continuously variable, and can be integrated and finely controlled, to produce any desired physical stimulation effect on the skin and tissue, for medical or cosmetic purposes. The different kinds of receptors in the skin and tissue can be selectively activated, since they are frequency dependent and direction-force dependent.

  • Patent number: 5588164
Abstract: A base unit for supporting an infant carrier seat comprising a housing member having a bottom curved surface for rocking on a generally flat support surface, an upper central portion on which an infant carrier seat is removably mountable, an endless pathway that circumscribes said central portion, a weight and a motor to move along the weight in a closed loop at a selected predetermined rate of travel. The weight in the preferred form is a toy train unit with open topped box cars that removably hold a supply of weights. A sound generator on the train provides music and/or train whistle simulation. An infant can be entertained by the train travelling around the infant, by sounds generated by the train and the infant is rocked, all at the same time. The motion of the train travelling around the infant can be used to check responses of the infant as can also the movement of sound relative to the infant.

Abstract: A system for application of electromechanical energy to generate full cycle linear oscillations imposing soft tissue strains which activate natural biochemical mechanisms whereby wound healing is enhanced through reduced scar tissue formation, swelling, pain, healing time, and increased wound strength is thereby provided. In essence, the device and method of this invention provides such enhanced wound healing by utilization of an applicator head which is mounted on the skin adjacent to a wound site, a cable for attachment to opposite ends of an incision's longitudinal axis which is coupled to the applicator head, a motor means for driving the cable in linear oscillations in opposite directions through alternating half cycles of a predetermined span, and an actuator means for regulating the timing and breadth of the predetermined span of each half cycle.

Abstract: An apparatus for treating bowlegs, which is simple in structure and easy in operation, gives no pains to the patients, while keeping the patient in a very stable and safe condition. The apparatus comprises a stationary platform 1, a tilted rotary plate 3 being located inside the platform 1 and having, on its top, a tilted surface 4 in the form of an inverted cone, a motor 2 for turning the tilted rotary plate 3 together with a patient standing upright on the tilted surface 4, and a control panel 7 for controlling the speed of rotation of the motor 2. The tilted rotary plate 3 is connected to the motor 2 in such a way that the plate 3 can be replaced with one of other tilted rotary plates having different angles of inclination.

  • Patent number: 5501658
Abstract: A roller mechanism is provided for a massage table which will allow a roller to accurately follow the curvature of a patient's back, and which will maintain a substantially constant pressure on the patient's back. The roller mechanism includes a roller assembly frame which slides beneath the table. A roller frame, on which the roller is journaled, is pivotally mounted to the roller assembly frame so that the roller may move vertically relative to the fame. A spring is connected at one end to an end of the roller frame and at another end to a bracket which is movable vertically relative to the roller assembly frame. The spring biases the pivotal roller frame upwardly to keep the roller in contact with the bottom of the table's cushion on which the patient lies. By changing the position of the bracket, the spring tension can be changed, to alter the pressure exerted by the roller against the patient's back.

  • Patent number: 5489257
Abstract: A massaging assembly includes a massaging apparatus and a movable lower-back supporting member. The massaging apparatus includes a hollow casing with a top wall and a front wall, a rest member disposed on top of the top wall, and a driving unit mounted in the casing. The driving unit extends through the top wall of the casing so as to connect with and drive reciprocatingly the rest member from side to side. The lower-back supporting member is to be disposed spacedly from the front wall of the casing and parallel to direction of reciprocating movement of the rest member. The supporting member includes a base and a slide plate mounted slidably on top of the base. The slide plate is slidable in a direction parallel to the direction of reciprocating movement of the rest member.

  • Patent number: 5460598
Abstract: A chair-type polyfunctional automatic massager which can be used selectively for either a rubbing motion or a finger pressing motion, is driven by one motor and can provide 5 different kinds of movements selectively at will by making the starter apparatus installed in the back of a chair raise and lower. The massager is made up of a driving mechanism which can independently rotate two kinds of driven shafts depending on the direction of rotation of a main spindle rotated by a starter motor. A driven shaft is attached to a rubbing ball mechanism and another driven shaft is attached to a finger pressing mechanism, with both mechanisms linked to a starter device through a connecting mechanism provided between the two mechanisms. A raising and lowering mechanism for the unit is connected with a tapping spindle which can rotate in a forward or reverse direction and is linked to a motor for raising and lowering the unit.

Abstract: A stimulator for use in marital orgasmic and sexual therapy for performing a simulation of cunnilingus is provided. The stimulator has an elongated cylindrical housing, simulated lips, a simulated tongue and is battery powered. The tongue is caused to move in and out with respect to the simulated lips; up and down; and side to side. These motions are attainable independently of the others. Three motors, separate switches, and three sets of cooperating but independent linkage are provided to accomplish this motion arrangement. A finger operated plunger type dispenser integral to the housing dispenses lubricant, medication, or other fluid onto the simulated tongue.
