Cylinder Attaching Or Mounting Means Patents (Class 70/370)
  • Patent number: 6523378
Abstract: A push-lock includes a body. The body is formed with a channel having a pair of portions. A cylinder is movable in the body between a front position and a rear position, and has a latch rotatably connected thereto. The latch defines two opposed cutouts in a periphery thereof. A clip has a pair of shanks resiliently flexible in the portions of the channel. The shanks normally abut the periphery of the latch. A spring is provided for moving the cylinder back to the front position. Additionally, the latch can be turned relative to the cylinder in such a manner that the shanks snapped in the cutout may be pushed outward by the turning latch till the shanks fully slide out of the cutouts and abut the periphery of the latch again.

  • Patent number: 6508092
Abstract: A generally cylindrical body of a device such as a cam lock is provided with a snap-in mount that enables the body to be mounted from one side of and through mounting holes formed in support panels of distinctly different thicknesses. The body has a shoulder that faces in one direction toward one side of a support panel, and carries sets of movable arms that define engagement surfaces located at different distances from the shoulder that snap outwardly after being inserted through a panel mounting hole to face toward the opposite side of the support panel. The body can be mounted on panels having three different thicknesses if three sets of arms are provided that each define engagement surfaces located at a different distance from the shoulder. More panel thicknesses can be accommodated if one or more of the sets of arms define two or more sets of engagement surfaces each located at a distinctly different distance from the shoulder.

  • Patent number: 6502436
Abstract: The invention is directed to a device to protect a deadbolt assembly from tampering. A deadbolt assembly comprising a deadbolt reciprocable along a longitudinal axis, and a deadbolt actuating mechanism having an axis transverse to that of the deadbolt, is protected from intrusion and tampering by a pair of protective shells which encircle the actuating mechanism. The shells are generally cylindrical and of like structure and opposite orientation. Each shell comprises a ring and a circumferentially extending protective structure which extends axially toward the ring of the other shell. A preferred protective structure comprises a plurality of projections, including an arcuate tongue. A gap or opening in the protective structure permits actuation and movement of the deadbolt without interference with the shells.

Abstract: A method of fastening a lock cylinder body in a generally flat element comprises the steps of providing in the element (20) an opening (22) which is defined by at least first and second mutually convergent edges (24a, 24b), and providing in the body (10) first and second grooves (14a, 14b) that are intended for co-action with said edges. The body is then inserted into the opening (22) to a position in which the grooves are level with said edges, whereafter the body is moved in a direction parallel with the plane of the element into an engagement position in which the edges are in engagement with the grooves, therewith to lock the body in an axial direction in this engagement position. Finally, a tongue (26) integral with the flat element is bent to a position in which the tongue lies essentially in the plane of said flat element, so as to lock the body (10) against movement in directions parallel with the plane of the element (20) in said engagement position.

Abstract: A cylinder lock includes a shell and a plug inside the shell. A locking pin, a sensor pin and a flexible coupling are mounted within the plug. The sensor pin moves the flexible coupling and the coupling moves the locking pin to an unlocked position when the correct key is inserted into a key slot in the plug. The key includes a locking pin receiving notch, to allow the locking pin to move to the unlocked position. The key also includes a contact surface that moves the sensor pin and thereby moves the locking pin to the unlocked position through the flexible coupling. When an incorrect key, without the locking pin receiving notch, is inserted, the flexibility of the flexible coupling allows the sensor pin to move without moving the locking pin. The cylinder lock may also include conventional pin tumblers.

Abstract: The deadbolt thumbturn assembly of the present invention includes a thumbturn including a thumbturn extension, which is inserted through a bushing collar and rose bearing, then secured with a retaining ring such that the thumbturn extension is able to rotate within the bushing collar. The threaded bushing collar is then inserted through the aperture of the deadbolt rose and secured with a retaining ring forming a deadbolt thumbturn assembly such that the threaded bushing collar is able to rotate with respect to the deadbolt rose. The thumbturn assembly is then attached to the inside housing of a single cylinder deadbolt lock by fastening the bushing collar to the threaded boss of the inside housing such that the extension of the deadbolt actuator is inserted into a receptacle of the thumbturn. This design of the thumbturn assembly allows for attachment to the inside housing while still allowing rotation of the thumbturn to extend or retract the deadbolt.

  • Patent number: 5931035
Abstract: To prevent a key cylinder from being punched out of an automotive door or the like and to simplify assembly, a stepped key cylinder retention cavity structure that is rigid with an outer panel of the door, is arranged to extend into the interior of the door. A key cylinder is disposed in the cavity from outside of the door so that a shaft that rotates synchronously with a rotor of the key cylinder, extends through an opening formed in an inboard end of the cavity and is connected to a key lever through a lost motion connection that allows for key backlash. The key lever is connected to the cavity structure by resilient barbed members that can be pressed in through the opening from the interior of the door. The barbed members snap into a locking position in suitable recesses formed in the structure. Rotation-limiting projections that are rigid with the structure are provided to limit the amount of rotation of the key lever.

  • Patent number: 5906125
Abstract: An auxiliary lock includes a cylinder which includes a tailpiece projected from one end thereof, a cylinder housing firmly receiving the cylinder therein and including a hollow protrusion projected from a shoulder thereof, a trim rotatably receiving the cylinder housing therein, a ring defining an opening at a center thereof and including a first flange extending around the opening and a second flange formed around a periphery of the ring at an opposite surface from which the first flange projects. The disk-like hollow protrusion is received in the opening of the ring, with the shoulder of the cylinder housing being in contact with the ring and an end portion of the trim being rotatably received in the second flange of the ring. A first engagement plate is engaged to a second engagement plate which is installed with a knob. The knob is engaged to the tailpiece of the cylinder and is manually controllable to rotate the tailpiece, which in turns rotates the cylinder to unlock or lock the auxiliary lock.

  • Patent number: 5884512
Abstract: A multi-use lock housing and cylinder includes a cylinder of a size and shape such as that typically used in key-in-knob locks. A two-part housing includes an outer housing portion and an inner housing portion, each having a bore and a slot into which the lock cylinder can be fitted. The housing and its associated lock cylinder can be used as a direct replacement for existing rim lock cylinders or mortise lock cylinders. The upper, front portion of the outer housing portion can be enlarged for added strength. The enlarged portion can be provided with a receptacle into which a piece of hardened metal is fitted. An extension having a pair of right-angled slots projects from the rear face of the cylinder and the inner housing. The slots receive driving members in the form of cams or tailpieces such as those commonly used with rim cylinders and mortise cylinders. Additional inner housings of different lengths can be provided for those applications that require mortise cylinders of different lengths.
