Cylinder Attaching Or Mounting Means Patents (Class 70/370)
  • Patent number: 5678438
Abstract: A cabinet lock is disclosed which is easily convertible between a drawer lock and a door lock, by rotating the lock cylinder 90 degrees within the lock body. The cabinet lock includes a lock body with a mounting plate and an extending sleeve that defines a central opening. A portion of the sleeve is indented inward to form a two-sided right angle notch that projects into the internal cavity of the sleeve, with an aperture through each side of the notch. The lock cylinder has first and second notch mating sections, rotated 90 degrees from one another about the cylinder, each having a threaded bore therein. The lock cylinder can be inserted into the sleeve in a first position, or in a second position rotated 90 degrees from the first position, and fixed in place with a screw that passes through one of the bores and one of the apertures. A lock plug with a bolt driving mechanism is adapted to fit within a longitudinal opening in the lock cylinder, and a bolt is operatively attached to the bolt driving mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5634359
Abstract: A lock mechanism has a cylindrical housing with an axial bore therethrough, and a key-controlled core rotatable within the bore between locked and unlocked conditions and removable from and installable in the bore in the unlocked condition. The core has a plug at its rear end which is mateably engageable in a socket on the front face of a shifter, for rotating the shifter within the bore in response to rotation of the core, and thereby operating a latch member coupled to the shifter. A radial tab on the housing is receivable in an arcuate groove formed in the outer surface of the shifter for limiting rotation of the shifter to facilitate retention of the shifter in the single rotational orientation upon removal of the core from the housing. An O-ring on the shifter frictionally inhibits rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 5548981
Abstract: A lock assembly is disclosed for small computers and similar electronic devices of the type that must be locked yet must permit access for repair even when the proper key is not available to the repair person without requiring that the expensive lock or its mounting be damaged. Further, readily visible evidence of the forced access must be apparent to a casual observer of the computer. Forced entry detection is provided by the instant invention through the use of a fracture ring having support elements seated into recesses in a rebated cover opening which hold the lock assembly in place during normal use but which allow the assembly to become axially misaligned after the lock has been forced. Frangible portions of the lock support hold the lock assembly in both rotational and axial stability which stability is lost when the frangible portions are broken.

  • Patent number: 5501087
Abstract: A rotary locking cylinder for a safety lock has a housing and a crosspiece. A recess is incorporated in the crosspiece from the top, a locking element being inserted into this recess. The recess connects an upper outer side of the crosspiece with a transverse bore hole in an arm of the crosspiece. In the assembled state, the crosspiece is inserted into a recess of the cylinder pocket and connected with a transverse pin. In order to secure the transverse pin against longitudinal displacement in the cylinder pocket, this transverse pin has a circumferential groove in which the locking element engages from above. In order to exchange the crosspiece, the rotary locking cylinder is rotated about its longitudinal axis in such a way that the cylinder pocket is on top. During rotation, the locking element falls downward due to the force of gravity and releases the transverse pin.

An advantage of the lock is that it may accommodate distinctively different cylinder types with different form, fit and function.

  • Patent number: 5181406
Abstract: A locking device consisting of key (2) and locking cylinder (1), in particular for the actuation of electric microswitches on keyboards, telephone or the like, has a locking cylinder housing (5) and a cylinder core (11) arranged for rotation in the bore thereof and cooperating with tumblers (16). The key (2), which has a stepped-down key shaft (35) is insertable into the cylinder core which has a head plate (12), coming after a specific rotation to rest against stops of the locking cylinder housing (5). In order to obtain a simplified construction with increased security and small structural length, there is a free space between the head plate (12) of the cylinder core (11) arranged on the front side of the locking cylinder (1) and the head end (14) of the locking cylinder housing (5). Into the free space the key-shaft shoulder (37) enters, and one or more stops of the locking cylinder housing (5), are arranged at different distances from an axis of rotation of the core.

Abstract: The profiled cylinder (38) seated in an insertion opening (87) of the lock housing (7) is guided by a retaining bracket (93) and fixed centrally by a detent pin (121) on the retaining bracket (93). The detent pin (121) is guided displaceably on a slide piece (103) and initially stressed by a spring (131) towards the profiled cylinder (38). The profiled cylinder (38) contains a reading device for en electronic key, which device is connected through a plug-in connection (89) with an electronic circuit of the lock. The plug-in connection (89) and the detent pin (121) are so adapted to one another that the detent pin (121) firstly fixes the profiled cylinder (38) on the pedestal (93) before the slide piece (103) guided in centered manner in relation to the pedestal (93) closes the plug-in connection (89). In this way defects of alignment of the plug-in connection (89) and damage to its contact elements (107, 109 ) are avoided.

Abstract: A modular door lock apparatus having a mainframe defined by a front face plate and an outer and inner side plate extending rearwardly of said front face plate a latch assembly being fixedly mounted to said front face plate, so as to be positioned between the side plates. A key cylinder is secured to the outer side plate and a latch knob is mounted to the inner side plate so as to operate the latch bolt of the latch assembly. The door lock apparatus is secured to the door by sliding the apparatus into a central bore and adjacent longitudinal slots that are formed in the leading edge of the door. The apparatus is then secured to the door by means of a pair of transversely positioned screws that are received through the oppositely disposed slots having their threaded ends extending outwardly of the outer side plate to engage the key cylinder. The screws may also be provided with nuts, which are fixedly positioned against the outer side plate.
