  • Patent number: 5784951
Abstract: A piston with a slide shoe for a hydraulic piston engine, where the slide shoe comprises a ball socket, and where the piston is arranged with a corresponding ball head, whereby these are joined in a ball-and-socket joint, and where at least partially the ball head is constituted of a spherical surface of a friction reducing material moulded onto and retained in relation the piston. As a consequence of the subsequent shrinking of the moulded-on, friction reducing material, a possibility is obtained of good fixation of the ball head on the piston, while at the same time a gap can be created between the ball socket and the ball head.

  • Patent number: 5785503
Abstract: A swash plate is mounted on a drive shaft in a crank chamber. The swash plate rotates integrally with the drive shaft and changes its inclination angle based on the pressure in the crank chamber. Pistons are provided in cylinder bores and coupled to the swash plate. The rotation of the swash plate is converted into reciprocation of each piston in the associated cylinder bore. The pistons'reciprocation draws the gas from a suction chamber into the compression chamber. The gas is compressed and discharged into the discharge chamber. A lug plate that integrally rotates with the drive shaft is mounted on the drive shaft. The lug plate has a receptacle. The receptacle has a pair of side walls that are spaced apart. The swash plate has an arm extending perpendicular to the swash plate. The arm has a distal end surface extending perpendicular to the axis of the drive shaft. The head slides along the receptacle and receives a load from the swash plate.

  • Patent number: 5784949
Abstract: An improved apparatus for retaining slipper holddown pins radially in a hydraulic unit includes a cylinder block having a plurality of holes therein for respectively receiving a corresponding plurality of elongated slipper holddown pins, each having a maximum transverse width. The holes are adjacent to and communicate with a center bore of the cylinder block to form respective throats. The throats have a maximum width that is less than the maximum transverse width of the pins such that the pins cannot be radially displaced through the respective throats. Each hole has a side wall that extends more than 180.degree. around its central axis. The side wall defines the throat between the hole and the center bore. The shaft can be inserted into driving engagement with the center bore of the cylinder block. The slipper holddown pin has a maximum transverse width greater than the maximum width of the throat.

  • Patent number: 5778727
Abstract: A wobble drive for imparting reciprocating motion to a sickle bar includes a wobble drive shaft rotatable about a first axis and having a cylindrical wobble section formed about an axis making an angle of about 14.5.degree. to the first axis. A toroidal wobble shaft bearing housing is mounted on the wobble section by a set of wobble bearings having their outer races pressed into the bearing housing. An output yoke is coupled to the wobble shaft bearing housing for transmitting the oscillatory motion of the housing, caused by rotation of the drive shaft, to a swing arm fixed to an end of a shaft portion of the yoke. The coupling of the yoke to the wobble bearing housing is accomplished by a pair of headed spindle pins inserted, from the inside out, through pin bores provided at diametrically opposite locations in the wobble shaft bearing housing, and into respective yoke bearings mounted in the ends of a pair of yoke limbs that are joined to the yoke shaft portion.

  • Patent number: 5779004
Abstract: A lubricating mechanism for a piston type compressor in a refrigeration system. A cam plate is mounted on a drive shaft for integral rotation therewith in a crank chamber, which is defined in a casing. Pistons are coupled to the cam plate and reciprocate in cylinder bores extending parallel to the drive shaft. Each piston compresses refrigerant gas containing lubricating oil mist and discharges the compressed refrigerant gas from the compressor during rotation of the cam plate. The refrigerant gas is supplied into the crank chamber and is circulated in the casing. The lubricating oil is supplied to various moving parts from a location near the drive shaft. An oil pan is provided outside and to the side of the casing for collecting lubricating oil. A recovering passage connects the oil pan with the crank chamber to convey the lubricating oil from the crank chamber to the oil pan for collection.

  • Patent number: 5771775
Abstract: A compressor has a front housing, cylinder block and a rear housing. The housings and cylinder block are secured to one another by a plurality of bolts. A plurality of pistons reciprocally move in cylinder bores to compress gas. Each of said bolts has a shaft extending through the housings and the cylinder block. A cam plate is supported on a drive shaft for integral rotation therewith to convert the rotation of the drive shaft to reciprocal movement of a piston in the cylinder bore. The piston rotates about its axis in accordance with rotation force transmitted from the cam plate and abuts against the shaft of the bolt, which extends in close proximity to the piston. The rotating piston abuts against the shaft so that the rotation thereof is restricted. The shaft has a diameter greater than that of a threaded portion formed at an end of the bolt. Since the threaded portion is smaller, the threaded portion does no damage to the piston during assembly.

  • Patent number: 5768974
Abstract: A swash plate type compressor includes an improved thrust bearing for axially supporting the swash plate. The bearing is of a composite type, and includes at least two elastically deformable slide bearing elements. The swash plate and the cylinder block each have seat portions, which are of different diameters. The two bearing elements are compressed between the respective seat portions into an elastically deformed conically-shaped state, with the amount of conical deformation depending upon the amount of axial compression that is applied to the bearing by tightening the assembly bolts of the compressor. In operation, one of the conically shaped slide bearing elements is pressed outwardly against the other by centrifugal force as the compressor shaft rotates. During start up and low speed operation of the compressor, this centrifugal force will have minimal effect, and the bearing elements will rotate with respect to each other, keeping internal frictional resistance low.

  • Patent number: 5704272
Abstract: An improved axial-piston energy converting device is provided by utilizing a thin ceramic wear plate insert, having a typical thickness of only about 0.005 to 0.040 inches in thickness, as a cam surface secured by atmospheric pressure to an underlying support surface of a steel cam plate support structure. Attachment of the wear plate to the cam plate supporting surface is accomplished by polishing both a supporting surface of the cam plate, and a mating surface of the wear plate to a very smooth finish, and wiping a thin film of a fluid such as oil onto one of the polished surfaces prior to placing the wear plate onto the supporting surface. The highly polished, together with the light film of oil, result in a joint that is essentially air tight. Atmospheric pressure acting on the cam surface of the wear plate serves to hold the wear plate tightly in place on the support surface in the same manner that a pair of Johansson blocks are held together if their highly polished surfaces are mated.

A bearing couples the plate to the pistons, so that the pistons are driven in a reciprocating motion within the cylinders upon rotation of the plate. A piston guiding mechanism has a first guiding device which is formed on the peripheral of the piston, and a second guiding device which is disposed within the housing for guiding the first guiding device to slide smoothly along the second guiding device and to prevent the piston from rotating around its axis or radially inclining when the piston reciprocates in the cylinder.

The second shaft rotates in an oscillatory manner between the extreme positions in response to rotation of the first shaft. • Patent number: 5513553
Abstract: The disclosure is directed primarily to pairs of unique nutating gears which are used for restraining the rotation of the wobbler portion of the split swash-plates of both variable- and fixed-displacement hydraulic machines in which the pistons reciprocate in fixed cylinders. Each pair consists of an internal gear fixed to the housing and an external gear fixed to the outer circumferential surface of the wobbler. Using any one of four different tooth designs, the gears simultaneously share two centers of meshing engagement when nutating, and they do not interfere with the complex lemniscate motion of the wobbler. This wobbler mounting arrangement results in significant size and weight reductions which are further enhanced by sliding shoe bearing assemblies that carry the axial loads developed by the machine's reciprocating pistons. The hydraulic machine is also provided with a modular design that makes it possible to make significant changes in displacement size with minimal changes in machine structure.
