  • Patent number: 5025562
Abstract: The reciprocating saw incorporates a counterbalanced reciprocating drive having a jackshaft on which primary and secondary wobble plates are mounted. The wobble plates drive reciprocating saw spindle and a concentric counterweight in opposite directions to cancel out the induced vibrations. The spindle reciprocates in a bearing sleeve having a slot through which the primary wobble arm projects to drive the spindle. The counterweight slides on the outside of the sleeve and has a slot which slides over the primary arm. The secondary arm drives the counterweight. The arms are out of alignment to permit their strokes to overlap without collision. The wobble plates are angled out of 180.degree. so the spindle and counterbalance reverse at the same time. The cutting stroke and speed are increased and vibration is insignificant. The drive has many other uses.

  • Patent number: 4893994
Abstract: An improved guide assembly, including a guide bearing and a pair of guide shoes, for a variable displacement wobble plate compressor is disclosed. The guide shoes include a body portion and positioning lugs that extend outwardly therefrom and arcuately around the guide bearing. The body portion engages the bearing and positioning lugs terminate in bearing edge surfaces. The lugs extend around the guide bearing such that said bearing surfaces are in close juxtaposition for load bearing contact. During operation, as compressor loading increases, the loading on the guide shoes from the wobble plate increases as well. This higher loading, and the tendency for uneven loading, brings the edge surfaces of the positioning lugs into load bearing contact. This serves to equalize the loading and substantially prevent relative guide shoe motion and frictional line contact with the guide rod. Thus, undesirable excess wear due to frictional contact of the guide shoes and the guide rod is avoided.

  • Patent number: 4885980
Abstract: A bearing arrangement particularly useful for supporting the driveshaft of a thermal engine in which the driveshaft is acted upon by a rotating bending load. Since a rotating bending load of such thermal engines generates driveshaft bending deflections which rotate with the driveshaft, the bearings supporting the driveshaft must be capable of accommodating such deflection. Conventional rolling element type bearings can accommodate driveshaft deflection or wobble but have limited operational lifespans. In accordance with this invention, a driveshaft bearing arrangement is provided utilizing plane bearings having spherical surfaces which restrain radial loads while accommodating driveshaft wobble. In one embodiment, the spherical bearing includes a ring member affixed to the driveshaft having a spherical outer surface which closely conforms to a concave bearing surface.

  • Patent number: 4765194
Abstract: A piston-operated machine is disclosed having a crank shaft and an intermediate crank section, the axis of the crank section being oblique to the axis of the crank shaft. The crank section passes rotatably and centrally through a wobble plate, and the center of the wobble plate lying on a prolongation of the axis of the crank shaft. A plurality of cylinders are provided having axes parallel to and equally spaced from the axis of the crank shaft. A piston in each cylinder is mounted on a piston rod extending coaxially from the cylinder to a respective connection on the wobble plate spaced from the center of the wobble plate. Each piston rod is rotatably but non-slidably engaged in a thrust member eccentrically rotatable in a thrust plate mounted to rotate about the same axis as the wobble plate.

Abstract: A shoe-and-socket joint, which is incorporated into a swash plate type compressor as a drive force transmitting unit arranged between a rotational swash plate and each of a plurality of reciprocal pistons, has a shoe provided with a spherically formed contact face and a recessed curved socket, for example, an ellipsoidal socket, deviated from a spherical form. Therefore, there is provided a wedge-shaped clearance between the socket and the shoe. An oil containing refrigerant gas flows enough into between the socket and the shoe to achieve a good lubrication.

Abstract: A hammer drill is provided with a clutch whose movable part is firmly connected to an axially displaceable drum which supports a wobbling disc driving a percussive mechanism for striking a work tool. The axially fixed clutch part is rotated by driving motor and is backed-up by a housing of the drill. Retroacting forces from the percussive mechanism are transferred via the drum onto the movable clutch part so that the engagement of the clutch is reinforced at the moment when the compression generated by percussive mechanism is maximum. When pressure applied on work tool is relieved, a separating spring disengages the clutch and braking surfaces on the drum limit its axial displacement and brake the rotation of the wobbling disc.

Abstract: There are disclosed a shoe which is interposed between a swash plate and a piston of a swash plate type compressor and which converts rotary movement of the swash plate into reciprocal movement of the piston, and a method for manufacturing the same. The shoe has a hemispherical part which is in slidable contact with the surface of a piston defining a hemispherical recess, and a flat end face which is in slidable contact with a bottom end face of the swash plate. According to the method of the invention, a columnar element is compressed in the axial direction for plastic deformation in such a manner that one end of the columnar element is deformed along the inner surface of a hemispherical recess of a die while the other end is urged against the flat end surface of another die.
