Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a product (10) formed in a pressing tool, wherein the tool is also designed to carry out a cutting and/or punching operation on the product. The cutting operation/punching operation is incomplete, such that waste/scrap (33, 41; 52; 64) resulting from the cutting/punching operation remains with the product (10) when the product leaves the pressing tool. The waste/scrap (33, 41; 52; 64) is removed during a subsequent finishing. The waste/scrap (33, 41; 52; 64) remains with the product (10) via at least one connecting bridge (31, 42; 51; 61) or the like.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to electrical insulation barriers. More particularly, the invention encompasses an electrical insulation barrier having knock-out features for an electronic apparatus. The electrical insulation barrier is preferably made from a brittle material, such as, for example, a thermoset insulating material, a glass reinforced polyester laminate material (such as, for example, GPO-1, GPO-2, GPO-3), and the like. The electrical insulation barrier is preferably used to insulate and/or isolate electrical conductors. With this invention a single master or universal type part can be made and used in many configurations and locations dependent on the design of the electronic apparatus. The invention allows for the creation of one or more opening in the electrical insulation barrier by knocking-out or removing one or more pre-defined shapes to allow clearance for intersecting electrical parts.

Abstract: Fiducials having substantially continuous portions made on a substrate allow the position of the substrate to be determined. An approach for making fiducials involves moving first and second fiducial devices together back and forth across the substrate along a trajectory having a component along the lateral axis of the substrate while the substrate and the first and second fiducial devices are in relative motion along the longitudinal axis of the substrate. The first fiducial device operates to make one fiducial on the substrate during the movement along the trajectory and the relative motion. The second fiducial device operates to make another fiducial on the substrate during the movement along the trajectory and the relative motion. The fiducials may be formed so that they have a constant spatial frequency with the first fiducial being out of phase with respect to the second fiducial.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing self-retaining suture includes supporting the suture during cutting of retainers at multiple angles. The method utilizes an anvil having a channel configured to support a suture during cutting of a barb at a first angular position while providing for non-interference between the anvil and barbs previously cut on the suture at one or more angular positions different than the first angular position. In embodiments the channel is provided with notches which receive previously-formed barbs during creation of subsequent barbs. Thus the method provides for rotating the suture and then supporting the suture with the anvil without interference with previously formed retainers.

Abstract: The present invention is a handheld apparatus which slices the white portion of a boiled egg in a manner allowing the egg to then be processed into and used as a deviled egg. Specifically, the apparatus slices the egg white by mating two cutting edges, each having a mating concave portion, slidably engaged to move in a vertical direction toward each other thereby slicing the egg white lengthwise into two equal halves while the egg yolk remains stationary in the concave portion and is not sliced.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for shaving the inside of barrels. In particular, the present invention relates to reconditioning used wine barrels by shaving the inside surface to a predetermined depth, ready for re-crozering, toasting, and re-use. Conventional shaving methods typically involve routing the internal surface by hand, but this technique is problematic in that it is a very slow process, the quality of the wood is often adversely affected, and there is no way of ensuring that the surface will be shaved to the same depth across the entire surface. Therefore, the resultant internal dimensions of the barrel are not reflective, relatively, of the original barrel surface. The apparatus of the present invention includes a scanning means adapted to scan the internal dimensions of the barrel, and a cutting means adapted to shave the internal surface to a predetermined depth relative to the scanned internal dimensions.

Abstract: When a plate-shaped material, such as a CSP substrate, that does not require exact precision is divided, a cutting machine is provided with not only first and second chuck tables, but also first and second cutting units. Then, each plate-shaped material, which is placed on a respective chuck table, is aligned immediately before it is cut, so that the Y-axis index control and the X-axis cutting movement control are established for cutting by the cutting units. A cutting portion is cut in the first direction by the first cutting unit according to the Y-axis index control and the X-axis cutting movement control, and subsequently a cutting portion is cut in the second direction by the second cutting unit. Hence, the cutting portions of the plate-shaped materials placed on the first and second chuck tables are cut by the first and second cutting units by sharing a role.

Abstract: Radio frequency cables have a inner circular conductor and an outer circular conductor. The inner and outer circular conductors are usually formed from copper and are separated by a heavy insulation layer usually cellular polyethylene. The outer side of the outer conductor may further be coated with a heavy polymeric insulation layer. In preparing these radio frequency cables for coupling it is necessary to have a flush cut surface. These flush cuts have been effected in the past by sawing, which has proved to be troublesome as metallic particles are dispersed throughout the insulation. The outer conductor may be prepared for coupling by: 1. Placing a tear collar over the outer conductor and 2. Tearing the outer conductor against the tear collar. This tearing creates an integral and desirable flange in the tearing process.

Abstract: An apparatus is proposed which makes it possible to produce contact windows only for one conductor track or a plurality of individual conductor tracks in the flat cable. The other conductor tracks should not be influenced or impaired. A flat cable is transported in a guide channel through the apparatus. For each conductor track of a flat cable, a cutting disk is present above and a pressure element below. As soon as insulation is to be stripped from an area, the actuating element is actuated and the pressure element is raised. As a result, the flat cable is pressed with the insulated conductor track against the cutting disk and the insulation layer above the conductor track is removed.
