Abstract: A method and operating technique for treating diene-containing aliphatic streams by introducing the light hydrocarbon stream at a top portion of a vertical stripping tower having an upper catalytic contact zone containing a bed of solid hydrogenation catalyst particles and a lower contact zone, and introducing a light gas stream containing hydrogen at a lower portion of said stripping tower. Selective hydrogenation is effected by flowing the light hydrocarbon stream and light gas stream countercurrently in contact with the solid hydrogenation catalyst particles under hydrogenation and stripping conditions, thereby converting said diene to mono-alkene in the upper contact zone.

Abstract: An improved catalyst for the polymerization of olefins comprising at least one metallocene and at least one aluminoxane co-catalyst supported on a substrate comprising a cross-linked polymeric, porous, resin wherein at least one of the monomers in the resin has at least one pendant functional group which is not reactive under the conditions of the formation of the substrate, and therefore survives the copolymerization which forms the substrate. One specific cross-linked resin is a copolymer of styrene, divinyl benzene and acetoxy styrene.
Abstract: The transfer of hydrogen from a paraffin to an olefin is provided. This reaction may be carried out in the presence of a catalyst, such as MCM-36. Especially when the paraffin reactant is an isoparaffin, the olefin produced from the reacted isoparaffin may react with unreacted isoparaffin to also produce an alkylate product.

Abstract: According to the present invention, the copolymers of ethylene vinyl alcohol are extruded using extrusion equipment coated with a fluoropolymer. This method improves the processability, alleviates/slows down die buildup, improves the extrudate quality by reducing die lines on surfaces of the extruded product.
Abstract: A multi-bed process of removing sulfur oxides and/or other combustible sulfur-containing compounds from a gas stream including combusting the other combustible sulfur-compounds when present in the gas stream with air or oxygen to convert such sulfur-containing compounds to sulfur oxide and form a sulfur oxide enriched gas stream. The sulfur oxide enriched gas stream is contacted with first and second serially connected solid adsorbent beds for adsorbing the sulfur oxides in the form of inorganic sulfates and/or sulfur oxides. A third adsorbent bed is contacted with a reducing gas stream to regenerate the bed by reducing the retained inorganic sulfates and/or sulfur oxides to hydrogen sulfide and/or sulfur dioxide, to thereby form a hydrogen sulfide and/or sulfur dioxide bearing stream. The feeds to each of the beds are realigned to place the second and third beds in series with the sulfur oxide and/or sulfur dioxide enriched stream being fed to the second bed and to place the first bed in a regenerative mode.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of low frequency sonic energy within the range of 1.25 to 6.5 KHz, preferably less than 2.0 KHz and most preferably 1.25 KHz, for enhancing the dissolution of alkaline earth metal scales from well bores using a scale-removing solvent comprising an aqueous alkaline solution having a pH of about 8 to about 14 and containing EDTA or DTPA and a catalyst or synergist, preferably an oxalate anion. When the scale deposit is contacted with the scale removing solvent while simultaneously transmitting low frequency sonic energy through the solvent, substantially more scale is dissolved at a faster rate than previously possible.
Abstract: Long chain alkyl substituted naphthalenes are produced by alkylating naphthalene with an olefin or other alkylating agent with at least 6, and usually 12 to 20 carbon atoms, in the presence of an alkylation catalyst comprising a zeolite having both ammonium and protonic species associated with the exchangeable sites of the zeolite. The zeolite is usually a large pore size zeolite such as USY. The presence of both ammonium and protonic species increases selectivity for production of long chain mono-alkyl substituted naphthalenes in preference to more highly substituted products.

Abstract: A catalyst composition which comprises a crystalline metallosilicate having the structure of zeolite Beta, phosphorus, and a matrix that is substantially free of crystalline aluminum phosphate which has improved resistance to steam deactivation and which has higher cracking activity than analogous catalysts prepared without phosphorus. The crystalline metallosilicate may be used in the as-synthesized form or in the calcined form. Also included is the method to produce the catalyst composition and methods for the use of catalysts prepared by the present method in organic conversion processes. Specific embodiments of the invention involve various techniques for preparation of catalysts containing phosphorus and crystalline metallosilicates having the structure of zeolite Beta. Catalysts prepared according to the method of this invention are useful for organic compound, e.g., hydrocarbon compound, conversion processes.

Abstract: A well completion process for improved cement placement in a horizontal wellbore where dual density cleaning fluids are circulated down the wellbore for conditioning and cleaning it. Afterwards, a production tube containing centralizers is positioned centrally within the wellbore. Next, "spacer fluids" of higher and lower densities are circulated within an annulus formed by the space between the tube and the wellbore so as to more substantially clean the annulus out. Subsequently, a cement having a density greater than the spacer fluid is pumped into the annulus. Thereafter, a light weight cement is pumped into the annulus thereby overriding the heavier cement and removing voids in the annulus resulting in more efficient cement placement.
