  • Patent number: 4870909
Abstract: A sealing device for sealing an opening in a shelter (1) against heat action. The walls (9) or ceiling of the shelter comprise several mechanically self-supporting, good thermally insulating layers. The device includes at least one element closing or sealing the opening and a support structure for supporting the element. A locking system and an operating device operating the locking system operate on the element. The element, as seen from the interior of the shelter can be pivoted to the outside and its construction corresponds to that of the wall. The element is held on support arms by the support structure which, from a load standpoint, is independent of the walls in the shelter interior. The locking system is located on the inside of the sealing element and the operating device is accessible both from the inside and from the outside.

  • Patent number: 4870654
Abstract: This new technique for stacking multiply folded optical paths in an extended region of a laser resonator within a gaseous medium. The path segments are connected together by a set of mirrors located along the resonator perimeter. Moreover, this invention involves a system of stacking unit tiles, each minim containing a multiply folded path, into larger domains. A multiplicity of mirrors is located in the laser resonator around the perimeter of stacked minims. A longer optical path is achieved without a corresponding increase in the number of folding elements, by stacking the minims together and thereby extending the length of the folding elements. The resulting domains fully cover the plane with a grid of evenly spaced and intersecting optical paths. The laser resonator can be used in either a laser oscillator or amplifier, and in either pulsed or continuous wave mode.

  • Patent number: 4867115
Abstract: A cranking fuel control method and apparatus for combustion engines. The method includes the steps of delaying the injection of fuel to the engine until one or more of the operating parameters of the engine, such as the engine rotational speed, the crankshaft rotation angle or the cylinder gas combustion pressure has reached a predetermined value. The fuel is then injected into the cylinder(s) at the required quantity for optimum starting of the engine. The method and apparatus can be used in fuel pumps with mechanical governors or with engines having electronic fuel controls.

  • Patent number: 4867910
Abstract: A ferrofluid composition consists of organic solvent or solvents to be used as liquid carriers, a charge-transfer complex or complexes for imparting electrical conductivity to the composition, fine particles of ferromagnetic material and additives for stably dispersing the aforesaid fine particles of ferromagnetic material into the organic solvent(s). According to this ferrofluid composition electrical conductivity of the fluid is given by the charge-transfer complex, which enhances the electrical conductivity, that is, functions to prevent electrification from occurring. The charge-transfer complex is dissolved, solubilized or dispersed in the carrier either by itself or by the aid of any additives. The ferromagnetic particles act to adsorb the additives and disperse them stably in the carrier and thus contribute to imparting magnetic properties to the carrier.

  • Patent number: 4852935
Abstract: The invention is a backlight assembly which attaches to the roof section to form a convertible top of a vehicle when the roof and the assembly are both in the raised positions. The backlight assembly and the roof section have independent linkage mechanisms which allow each to be positioned independent of the other. The predetermined path of the backlight panel as defined by the linkage mechanism and the guideframe combines both rotational and sliding movements. This is accomplished by initially radically rotating the panel in a counterclockwise manner and then moving the panel along a substantially horizontal plane. When the backlight panel reaches the extreme rearward portion of the guidetracks, the panel is situated in a substantially horizontal position beneath the rear decklid.

  • Patent number: 4850982
Abstract: This new catheter minimizes the exposure of attendant personnel to contaminated materials. The catheter enables the withdrawal of the catheter from the patient and subsequent disposal thereof in a safe, easy to perform, and sanitary manner. The catheter includes a hollow tube made of a material that is inflatable and nonporous. A main passage is located within the tube and extends throughout the tube, from an open end of the tube and through an aperture located near a closed end of the tube. An inlet channel is attached to the tube and is in fluid communication with a chamber adjacent to the aperture. Prior to removing the catheter from the body of the patient, a fluid is injected through the channel and into the chamber, thereby inflating the inner surface wall of the tube, and essentially blocking the main passage. The closed chamber is secured to prevent the release of the injected fluid.

  • Patent number: 4844962
Abstract: A teartape for packaging materials, and particularly such materials based on polyolefin films, includes a base film coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive composition. The teartape is affixed to the packaging material by the adhesive composition. This avoids the problem of distortion which can occur when affixing conventional teartapes to such packaging materials by means of hot melt wax compositions. The teartape is applied to moving packaging material by controlling the speed of the teartape in accordance with the speed of the packaging material so as to reduce tension imbalance. The speed of the teartape may be controlled in dependence upon the tension in the teartape. This can be achieved by supplying the teartape from a dispenser having a brake means (4,5) and a drive means (10,11,12) for regulating the speed of the teartape in dependence on the tension in the teartape.

  • Patent number: 4838954
Abstract: A pressure regulator continuously actuates the relative axial position and the tangential position of an armature relative to a valve body into the desired position so as to deliver a fluid at a constant pressure. The tangential position of the armature is determined in response to an electrical excitation of a coil resulting in a change in the magnetic forces applied to the armature. The axial position of the armature is adjusted in response to changes in the control pressure. The armature has a plurality of ports which enable fluid to enter and leave therefrom. The valve body has a plurality of ports in fluid communication with the armature ports. The armature has two elongated prongs. A compression spring is generally centrally disposed within the electromagnetic compartment of the armature. One end of the spring is secured to the armature and the other end of the spring is secured to the regulator housing.
