Abstract: A device for manufacturing vehicle wheels having a rim which is wreath-shaped in cross section surrounding a cast wheel body is such that at least one die wall delimits the mold to be filled with cast metal. The prefabricated rim is laid between facing surfaces of a die plate and a center plate with the result that the die faces and the rim form the outer contours of the wheel body when the mold space between the die faces and rim is filled with molten metal which is introduced into the mold space under pressure. The rim itself is held by a clamping ring and can be removed in two pieces from the die assembly. A device for spraying a cooling medium onto the rim is provided on or in the clamping ring. The rim features on its inner face a central strut which is T-shaped in cross section, and on both sides of the actual struts are side struts which are inclined outwards. The free ends of the side struts are displaced by the surface of the die plates.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for manufacturing crystalline alumina from aluminum hydroxide which after further conventional treatment is advantageously suitable for ceramic and refractory purposes or as a lapping and polishing agent. The process is such that aluminum hydroxide with a Na.sub.2 O content of .ltoreq.0.1 wt. % with respect to Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 is subjected either directly or after prior partial dehydration to a thermal treatment above the temperature for transformation to .alpha.--Al.sub.2 O.sub.3. The aluminum hydroxide has an addition of an ammonium containing mineralizer made to it, simultaneously in the presence of boron and/or fluorine, in particular an addition of NH.sub.4 BF.sub.4. The product is characterized by way of the essentially isometric shape of the single crystals.

C., in which an alloy consisting of 0.8 to 1.5% iron, up to 0.5% by weight of each of Si and Mn, the sum of Si and Mn being between 0.2 and 0.8%, up to 0.3% by weight of any other component, the total of other components being no more than 0.8% by weight, and the remainder being aluminum, is casted at a solidification rate of 2.5 to 25 cm/min, the hot plate is cooled to less than 120.degree. C. at a rate of less than 0.5 K/sec and is then cold rolled with a thickness decrease of at least 75% without intermediate annealing, and the final annealing temperature does not exceed 380.degree. C.

Abstract: This invention resides in a composition for treatment of meat, poultry, fruit and vegetables to maintain the color and to preserve same. The composition comprises as essential constituents between about 10 and 40% each of the following materials:(1) ascorbic acid and/or the sodium or potassium salts thereof;(2) citric acid and/or the sodium or potassium salts thereof;(3) sodium or potassium carbonate; and(4) sulfite, bisulfite or metabisulfite of sodium or potassium. These materials represent a synergistic combination which preserves the color and freshness of these products for a surprisingly long period of time.
Abstract: An asymmetric arrangement of busbars for conducting direct electric current is conducted from the cathode bar ends of a transversely disposed aluminum fused salt reduction cell to the anode beam of the next cell wherein a fraction of the busbars connected to the cathode bar ends on the upstream side of the cell are led under the cell such that the busbar configuration in the cathodic part of the cell is such that the variation in the asymmetry of the current leading the cell from the upstream cathode bar ends lies between 3 and 30%.

Abstract: A device for accurately controlled feeding of a fine-grained, free-running particulate material from a silo into a reactor vessel, in particular alumina from a day's supply silo to a break in the crust on an aluminium fused salt electrolytic cell, comprises essentially a vertical feed pipe which is situated below the silo and features upper and a lower closing flaps both of which are in the form of segments of a cylinder. The feed pipe mounted on the funnel shaped lower part of the silo features an outlet funnel which joins up with an outlet pipe.
Abstract: A continuously cast strand or ingot of metal is cooled as it emerges from the mold by applying a coolant directly to the surface of the strand. In order to prevent distortion at the foot of the ingot due to too abrupt cooling, polymers of molecular weight 10.sup.4 -10.sup.8 are added to the coolant at least during the initial phase of casting. By the addition of polymers to the coolant the kinetics of formation and discharge of vapor bubbles as the coolant strikes the ingot surface are significantly altered due to the reduction in the surface tension of the coolant; as a result of this an insulating film of coolant vapor forms on the surface of the ingot thus reducing the heat flow from the ingot.
Abstract: Protein is produced by bacterial degradation of rubber in a nutrient-containing, preferably sterile environment. The resultant protein is particularly useful as an animal feed.
Abstract: A device for automatically bagging lawn clippings in disposable plastic bags comprises a frame having a bag compartment mounted thereon for automatically feeding the plastic bags to a bag clamping unit positioned in communication with the discharge conduit of the power lawn tool. A moveable discharge conduit unit is provided and is moveable between a first bag loading position and a second operating position wherein the discharge conduit communicate with the discharge of the power lawn tool for delivering the lawn clippings to the plastic lawn bag.
Abstract: A process for upgrading heavy crude comprises the hydroconversion of asphaltenes and resins in the presence of steam and ammonia at high temperatures, followed by deasphalting to eliminate metals and remaining asphaltenes. By way of the process of the present invention, conversion of asphaltenes and resins is accomplished while at the same time insuring a low formation of gases and coke so as to obtain an end product with a high yield of distillates and low metal content. The process is particularly suitable for any type of heavy crude, for example those of the Orinoco zone, which possess a high content of asphaltenes and metals.

The solid cathodes are economical and can be made from material which is readily made into a variety of shapes.
Abstract: Can lids made of metal, lacquered on both sides and featuring a pouring outlet covered over with a closure strip having a sealing surface of polyamide, often exhibit inadequate bond strength between the closure strip and the lacquered can lid surface. The bond strength can be increased if the can lid, after the closure strip has been sealed onto it, is heated until the polyamide melts and then the can lid with closure strip is subsequently cooled.
