Abstract: The durability of oxide-ceramic anodes can be increased, if the aluminum surface which lies opposite the active anode surface and is in direct contact with the molten electrolyte, is smaller than the active anode surface. The separated aluminum is collected on the floor of the carbon lining and is sub-divided by an insulating material into pools, which are connected together by means of tubes or channels. The total of all the aluminum surfaces exposed to the melt amounts to 10-90% of the active anode surface.
Abstract: The present invention resides in an improved ceramic foam filter particularly useful for filtering molten metal and also an improved aqueous slurry for use in preparing same.
Abstract: The apparatus serves particularly for the continuous charging of extractors for oil-containing vegetable raw materials, wherein highly flammable, low-boiling solvents, such as benzene, hexane, heptane etc. are used as extractants or solvents for the glyceride constituents to be extracted. The apparatus, which is provided between the preparation (comminution) of the raw material and the extraction plant proper, comprises an equalizing vessel having a mixing zone and a double screw disposed at an inclination with respect to the horizontal wherein the spacing of the screw turns, in the area of the vessel, increases continuously in the direction towards the discharge outlet. The inclination of the screw is such that the space defined by the base of the screw and an imaginary line is constantly filled.Equalizing vessel, mixing zone and screw are interconnected to form a tightly sealed unit.
Abstract: A rotor centering device comprising two radial bearings each one constituted of first and second opposing members with angular contact races, mounted with axial clearance so that if one of the said members is in abutment, the other member has a radial clearance. The first angular contact centering members of the first and second bearings are also opposing, and the second angular contact centering members of the first and second bearings are likewise opposing, so that by relative axial movement of the inner and outer contact races of both first and second centering means belonging to the two bearings, simultaneous contact of the inner and outer faces is achieved either with the first centering members or with the second centering members which happen to be opposing on the two bearings.
Abstract: Method for the preparation of oriented hollow articles of moldable organic plastic material which is characterized by a rapid operating cycle and a final article free from objectionable capacity. The disclosure teaches an injection molding station for controlled removal of parisons after altering the heat content thereof under conditions avoiding crystallization and thereby freeing the injection station for the formation of a second parison.
Abstract: Device and method for breaking open the solidified crust of electrolyte on an electrolytic cell, in particular a cell for producing aluminum. At least one projection is provided on the lower part of the shaft of a chisel used on a crust breaker. Abstract: The process of the present invention allows for the manufacture of lacquered aluminum or tin-plate rings which have the inner edge thereof bent over outwards so that they are suitable for the closures on cans for foodstuffs. A ring blank made of lacquered sheet is pre-shaped by deep drawing to form the curvature needed for bending over the inner cut edge. The final shaping of the pre-shaped blank into a ring for a can lid takes place, after stamping out the opening, by stretching and bending over the cut edge. When a tear-back membrane is sealed on to the bent-over edge, the ring is suitable as an easily opened closure for cans for foodstuffs.
