  • Patent number: 7832023
Abstract: The protective helmet includes a rigid outer shell where the shell includes an undulating cross-sectional profile. A layer of impact-energy-absorbing material is positioned adjacent to the shell. The undulating profile of the shell can be any type of load spreading undulating profile, such as that of a sinusoidal or triangular wave configuration. The undulating load-spreading profile can be on the inner surface of the shell, on the outer surface of the shell or the entire cross-section of the shell may be undulating. The unique undulating profile makes the shell more rigid and spreads the impact load across the surface of the shell to thereby spread the deformation of the padding layer to prevent the shell from bottoming out of the impact-energy-absorbing material during an impact. As a result, a safer and more effective protective helmet is provided.

  • Patent number: 7824315
Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes a housing, a pair of pivoting foot treadles and a pair of reciprocating bellows that support the foot treadles. A sealed air system including a conduit interconnects the bellows and is operable for reciprocating transfer of air from bellow to bellow. Each of the foot treadles is pivotably movable between upper and lower positions, and has a resting position between the upper and lower positions. The resting position of the foot treadles defines a resting position of the bellows while the upper and lower positions of the foot treadles respectively define elongated and compressed positions of the bellows. In use, the elongated and compressed positions of the bellows are each no more than 5 degrees off the center resting position thereby reducing stress on the bellows.

  • Patent number: 7810883
Abstract: The present invention provides an adjustable child restraint device, namely, a juvenile safety seat. The safety seat preferably includes a backrest and a pair of side guards that protect the body and shoulder of a person, such as a small child. Each of the pair of side guards have a top end and a bottom end and each are respectively pivotally connected about an axis to the backrest at their bottom ends and movable between a closed position and an open position so that the distance between the respective bottom ends of the side guards remains substantially constant and the distance between the respective top ends of the side guards is adjustable by pivoting movement of the side guards. A curved guide means is disposed in communication with the side guards for guiding movement of the side guards.

  • Patent number: 7806081
Abstract: A nectar feeder for birds has a body member with a base and a lid. The base has an open top end and a side wall. The lid is interfittingly engaged with the top end of the base. A hinge connects the lid to the base to allow movement of the lid relative to the base. The lid has a support extending from an upper surface of the lid. At least one feed port, preferably three, is defined through the lid. The feed port and the support are substantially aligned on the same horizontal plane. A latch is attached to the upper surface of the lid to prevent movement of the lid relative to the base. A moat optionally extends about the periphery of the body member.

  • Patent number: 7802395
Abstract: An improved mounting assembly is provided that is configured to be releasably mounted onto a standard dovetail rail profile and includes a positive index that corresponds to a fully opened position. The mounting assembly includes a boss formation that extends from one side thereof. A foot portion and an actuator arm are installed into the boss formation and serve as a means for engaging and disengaging the mounting assembly relative to the dovetail rail. An indexing formation is provided on the boss and is configured such that the indexing formation engages the clamping assembly to prevent over rotation of the foot portion and thus allowing the actuator arm to be positioned in a fully disengaged, open position where the foot portion will not interfere with removal or installation of the mounting assembly relative to the rail.

  • Patent number: 7793452
Abstract: A modular fore-end rail assembly for a firearm is disclosed. The assembly includes an upper handguard having forward and rearward ends. A dovetail rail extends between the forward and rearward ends. Opposing sidewalls extend outwardly and downwardly from the dovetail rail, respectively. The sidewalls terminate in mounting channels. The rearward end includes a first clamping member. A clamp is removably secured to the rearward end and cooperates with the first clamping member to engage a barrel nut of a firearm. The clamp has an exterior surface including a slidable locking pin movable between a locked position and an unlocked position. A lower handguard includes sidewalls that extend outwardly and upwardly. The sidewalls terminate in mating formations that are configured to be slidably received in the mounting channels. A lock aperture is provided at a rearward end of the lower handguard.

  • Patent number: 7784963
Abstract: A multi-function flashlight device is provided in either an all white light emitting diode (LED) or a colored LED version that allows versatile functionality. The flashlight is fashioned to have an outer housing that includes both an integrated means for interfacing the flashlight with a firearm and a surface thereon that serves as a handgrip. The outer housing of the flashlight is configured to be engaged by a clamping assembly that facilitates integration of the flashlight with standard firearm accessory rail assemblies. The flashlight head includes a high-output white LED positioned centrally within an optical element such as a reflector. Should the flashlight be a colored light, four other positions are provided around the periphery of the lens that contain colored LEDs. The flashlight provides the user the ability to selectively and individually control the mode of operation for all of the LEDs contained therein.

  • Patent number: 7767991
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of operating an infrared drip sensor in an enteral pump system to reduce false alarm conditions. The method consists of the following steps: optically coupling a infrared beam emitter with an infrared beam detector along an infrared beam path that extends through a drip chamber and intersects the drip path; monitoring the output signal of the infrared beam detector to detect pulses; monitoring the pulses for an interruption thereof; and running an infrared beam power update routine when an interruption is detected in the pulses, the infrared beam power update routine consisting of incrementally increasing a power level of the infrared beam until the power level of the infrared beam is sufficient to re-establish an output signal at the infrared beam detector.

  • Patent number: 7767936
Abstract: A breathable electrical heater element for a topical application device such as a wound dressing or a therapeutic heating pad is disclosed. The heater element is formed by photochemically etching a track pattern onto a porous metallised fabric (e.g. nickel coated woven polyester). The heater element has a skin or wound contact layer laminated to the front face of the heater element. An adhesive layer is laminated to the back face of the heater element. The adhesive layer forms an overhang to provide an adhesive border around the wound contact layer to adhere the device to the skin of a patient. Therapeutically active drugs (optionally microencapsulated) may be incorporated into the skin or wound contact layer. Operation of the heater element causes the skin or wound contact layer to release the active drugs to the skin or wound of the patient. Appropriate control of the temperature of the heater element allows control of the release of the active drugs.
