  • Patent number: 5301004
Abstract: Optical properties of a lens, including localized defects, are determined by analyzing the refracted image produced by transmitting a beam of light through an aperture and a lens to be tested. The image is reflected onto a light sensitive detecting surface. Information obtained from the light detecting surface is digitized and sent to an Image Processing Unit which calculates the optical properties of the lens. The aperture may consist of a single shaped opening or alternatively a plurality of concentric, annular rings. Correction lenses may be employed, either permanently or selectively, to alter the refracted beam before the beam intersects the detecting surface.

  • Patent number: 5299481
Abstract: A microtome, or an ultramicrotome having the specimen arm operating through an opening in the cryo chamber wall in a manner substantially free of the mechanical influence of a conventional seal is disclosed. An elongated slot permits movement of the specimen arm while minimizing the clearance between the sides of the arm and chamber wall reduces loss. Inner and outer baffles can be used to further reduce loss.

  • Patent number: 5279607
Abstract: An ingestible capsule and process for delivery, particularly repeatable delivery, of a medicament to the alimentary canal is disclosed wherein an essentially non-digestible capsule contains an electric energy emitting means, a radio signal transmitting means, a medicament storage means and a remote actuatable medicament releasing means. The capsule signals a remote receiver as it progresses through the alimentary tract in a previously mapped route and upon reaching a specified site is remotely triggered to release a dosage of medicament.

  • Patent number: 5251608
Abstract: An air canopy system for use with equipment producing fumes whose escape into the environment adjacent the equipment is not desired. The system comprises rear and side walls adapted to upstand from adjacent rear and sides of the equipment; an upper canopy surmounting the rear and side walls and cooperating therewith to define a volume for receiving fumes produced by the equipment; an arranged to extend substantially between the side walls in a forwardly spaced relationship from the front of the equipment for cooperation therewith to bound a makeup air receiving inlet for permitting passage of air from the environment into the volume and for cooperation with the side walls and the upper canopy to bound an access opening for the volume, wherein the air curtain is directed towards the upper canopy for preventing escape of fumes from the volume through the access opening; and an exhaust inlet extending along an upper extent of the rear wall for withdrawing fumes and air from the volume.

  • Patent number: 5249391
Abstract: A device for injecting a liquid composition into a plant includes a pair of telescopically associated container sections cooperating to define an interior space whose volume is varied incident to relative axial movement of the sections between extended and contracted positions for purposes of expelling liquid therefrom into a plant through a liquid discharge tube connected to one of the sections, characterized in that the interior space may be selectively employed to store a single liquid chemical composition or divided into separate volumes for storing dissimilar liquid and liquid or solid chemical compositions, which may be mixed within the device immediately prior to injection thereof into a plant.

  • Patent number: 5233513
Abstract: A microprocessor manipulated program which extracts the data inherent in the cognitive process leading to the spoken or written word and converts that data into business models capable of defining the interrelationship and functions of a business. The program models the business and the data thus generated is used to produce application software program code capable of controlling and/or performing all functions of the business. The system springs from The Connected Development Process of Four Dimensional Cognitive Modeling using the four basic linguistic entities of PROCESS and its attendant adjuncts of DATA, CONTROL and SUPPORT.
