  • Patent number: 7988876
Abstract: To reduce and homogenize the thickness of a semiconductor layer which lies on the surface of an electrically insulating material, the surface of the semiconductor layer is exposed to the action of an etchant whose redox potential is adjusted as a function of the material and the desired final thickness of the semiconductor layer, so that the material erosion per unit time on the surface of the semiconductor layer due to the etchant becomes less as the thickness of the semiconductor layer decreases, and is only from 0 to 10% of the thickness per second when the desired thickness is reached. The method is carried out without the action of light or the application of an external electrical voltage.

  • Patent number: 7980837
Abstract: A rotary piston machine has a cylinder provided with two ends to form a stator with inlet and outlet apertures, and a piston having a rotor eccentrically mounted within the stator. A vane is connected to the rotor by a hinge and forms an expanding and contracting chamber as the piston rotates. The piston is provided with a sealing means sufficient to restrict movement of gaseous/fluid matter between chambers during operation. The sealing means includes a flexible seal member with a mating lip positioned adjacent to the vane hinge. Each revolution of the eccentrically mounted piston causes the seal member to contact an inner cylinder wall to prevent the escape of displaced gaseous/fluid matter past the vane hinge. The flexible seal member contacts the cylinder wall and bends to form a lip seal resistive to the direction of pressurization.

  • Patent number: 7980228
Abstract: A fuel vapor recovery system and method for an automotive vehicle are disclosed. The vehicle fuel tank is vented to atmosphere via a passageway having a carbon canister to remove fuel vapors, a bladder, and a normally-closed isolation valve. When fueling the vehicle, the gases in the fuel tank displaced by entering fuel are introduced into the carbon canister where the fuel vapors are stored. The isolation valve is commanded to open to allow such flow through the carbon canister. When the vehicle is parked for a period of a day, it undergoes a diurnal temperature change which causes fuel to vaporize into the fuel system. According to an aspect of the present development, the isolation valve remains closed and the gases are contained within the bladder as it expands or contracts as the volume of gases increases or decreases in response to temperature changes.

  • Patent number: 7984482
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for providing Global Account Lockout (GAL) using an Ordered Messaging Service (OMS) is presented. A database operation is received from a client, and a determination made regarding whether the operation contains an authentication mechanism. When the operation does not contain an authentication mechanism then the operation is returned from. When the operation does contain an authentication mechanism then the following steps are performed: locating the entry and checking its authentication mechanism, determining whether the authentication mechanism in the operation is good, sending a bind message to a GAL manager, checking and updating GAL state, committing updates to GAL state, and returning operation to the client.

  • Patent number: 7984041
Abstract: Methods and apparatus provide for a local search indexer to allow for an optimized search within a web server that returns accurate search results while maintaining independent control as to defining search patterns, search prioritization, and updated content available for search. Specifically, the local search indexer organizes content according to a hierarchical directory structure at a web server. The hierarchical directory structure includes at least one directory level that provides at least one directory for storing the content. The local search indexer builds a search index associated with the directory and stores the search index at the web server. The search index is populated with indexed content based on an update of the content stored in the directory. The local search indexer employs a search engine, at the web server, to process search queries against the indexed content to provide a search result that includes the update of the content.

  • Patent number: 7980209
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes an electromagnetic valve actuator having an armature between upper and lower electromagnets with a stem extending through one electromagnet and guided by a bushing with increased clearance about at least a portion of the inner circumference in at least a middle portion of the bushing to reduce oil shear length and associated viscous friction in the actuator. A two-piece intake/exhaust valve guide includes a lower half with a stepped outer diameter cooperating with a counter-bored hole in the cylinder head to provide a positive stop. The upper and lower halves of the valve guide have increased clearance relative to the valve stem around at least a portion of the inner circumference to reduce oil shear length and associated viscous friction. Reducing viscous friction of the actuator and associated valve guide improves system robustness by decreasing the system sensitivity to temperature.
