  • Patent number: 8086832
Abstract: A design structure embodied in a machine readable, non-transitory storage medium used in a design process includes a system for dynamically varying the pipeline depth of a computing device. The system includes a state machine that determines an optimum length of a pipeline architecture based on a processing function to be performed. A pipeline sequence controller, responsive to the state machine, varies the depth of the pipeline based on the optimum length. A plurality of clock splitter elements, each associated with a corresponding plurality of latch stages in the pipeline architecture, are coupled to the pipeline sequence controller and adapted to operate in a functional mode, one or more clock gating modes, and a pass-through flush mode. For each of the clock splitter elements operating in the pass-through flush mode, data is passed through the associated latch stage without oscillation of clock signals associated therewith.

  • Patent number: 8087012
Abstract: A technique is provided for eliminating maximum and minimum expressions within loop bounds are provided. A loop in a code is identified. The loop is determined to meet conditions, which require an upper loop bound and a lower loop bound to contain maximum and minimum expressions, loop-invariant operands, a predetermined size for a code size, and a total number of instructions to be greater than a predetermined constant. A profitability of loop versioning is determined based on a performance gain of a fast version of the loop, a probability of executing the fast version of the loop at runtime, and an overhead for performing loop versioning. A pair of lower loop bound and upper loop bound values resulting in a constant number is identified. A loop iteration value is checked to be a non-zero constant. Branches are identified, and loop versioning is performed to generate a versioned loop.

  • Patent number: 8084973
Abstract: A motor driving circuit generates pulse driving signals, and controls the ON/OFF state of a switching circuit connected to a coil of a motor which is to be driven, thereby controlling the conduction period of the motor. A driving signal generating circuit generates the driving signals such that they are pulse modulated according to the torque target value for the motor, and outputs the driving signals to the switching circuit. A current detection circuit detects the current flowing through the coil of the motor. A current limiting circuit controls the logical values of the driving signals generated by the driving signal generating circuit such that the current detected by the current detection circuit does not exceed a predetermined current upper limit. The current limiting circuit increases the current upper limit according to the time elapsed in the starting operation of the motor. After the starting operation of the motor, the current upper limit is set to a predetermined fixed value.
