  • Patent number: 5503127
Abstract: A fuel injection pump having an inlet metering valve for supplying a metered quantity of fuel from a transfer pump to a pumping chamber and an auxiliary control system for limiting the maximum quantity of fuel supplied to the pumping chamber via the inlet metering valve. An auxiliary valve piston is axially shiftable by the transfer pump outlet pressure to provide a variable restriction between the transfer pump and metering valve for establishing a maximum fuel quantity limit within a predetermined speed range of the pump. A low-speed fuel passage is provided in parallel with the variable restriction for establishing a maximum fuel quantity limit within a lower speed range. The back pressure chambers of the auxiliary valve piston, a transfer pressure regulator piston and a pump timing piston are connected to a pump housing cavity to equalize the back pressures in those chambers at the same constant pressure maintained by a housing pressure regulator.

  • Patent number: 5502971
Abstract: A low pressure cryogenic process is disclosed for recovering C.sub.2 and heavier hydrocarbons and particularly olefins from a refinery offgas containing hydrogen, methane, nitrogen oxide in addition to the C.sub.2 and heavier hydrocarbons. The conventional high pressures are eliminated and the temperatures are maintained higher than the temperature at which nitrated gums can form while still maintaining high olefin recovery. The feed is deethanized or depropanized to remove the C.sub.4 and heavier hydrocarbons at a temperature above the nitrated gum formation temperature. The overhead is then demethanized in a column using an enriching zone above the rectifying zone with a feed of C.sub.2 or heavier paraffins between these two zones.

  • Patent number: 5496079
Abstract: A security system, responsive to a threshold force applied to a door, has a lock frame adapted for mounting to a door frame. A housing having an electromagnet mounted thereto swingably mounts to the lock frame. An armature, attractable to the electromagnet, mounts to the door. The housing swings on an axis substantially perpendicular to the door frame header. A pin fixed to the housing extends into the lock frame to limit the swinging of the housing between a first maximum and a second maximum position. A spring disposed between the housing and the lock frame urges the housing toward the first maximum position and sets a threshold force. A microswitch generates a signal upon swinging of the housing relative to the frame when the force of the spring is overcome by a force applied to the door.

  • Patent number: 5488916
Abstract: A pulverized coal steam generator employing tangential, concentric firing with oxidizing conditions adjacent the furnace walls and using overfire air and low NO.sub.x firing methods is operated at very low excess air levels. This is possible because the unburned carbon in the flyash is measured and the pulverizers are adjusted to control the particles size of the pulverized coal and maintain a desired carbon level. The slagging and corrosion associated with deep staging is overcome by the concentric firing. Overall plant efficiency is obtained while still meeting performance objectives and emissions controls.

  • Patent number: 5485877
Abstract: The heat exchange baskets for a rotary regenerative air preheater are loaded radially into the rotor rather than axially from the duct end. The rotor is divided into sectors by diaphragms, and support gratings are provided in each rotor sector with the baskets being positioned and supported on the gratings. The angle of each rotor sector is smaller than the complimentary angle of each basket such that the outboard end of each basket can contact the diaphragms before the contact of the inboard end. The baskets thereby serve to stiffen the rotor structure while reducing bypass gaps.
