  • Patent number: 5591027
Abstract: Delivery syringe for dental compound, especially for fillings and veneers, the plunger of which is displaceable by a screw spindle exhibiting a handle. The handle is configured, according to the invention, as a color sample for the dental compound contained in the delivery syringe. To enable a sufficient turning force to be applied to the spindle even by means of a narrow color sample, the syringe body, in order to reduce the necessary turning force, is expediently configured such that it is free from any constriction.

  • Patent number: 5586660
Abstract: The screening of a stream of bulk material is accelerated so that this takes place in the state of the fluidized bed. The screening apparatus can be made correspondingly smaller. So that the fluidized-bed state persists over the screen surface, the latter is made short and, if necessary, a plurality of screen surfaces with interposed aerating stages are connected in succession.

  • Patent number: 5586392
Abstract: A gardening tool for cutting weeds and other plant growth having a handle and a cutting head comprising first and second blade members which are adjustably positionable relative to each other. Each blade member has an elongated body having cutting edges extending along opposite longitudinal sides thereof. The blade members are connected end to end by a carriage bolt which is received by apertures in a first end of each blade member. The aperture in the first blade member is complimentary in shape to the square shank portion of the carriage bolt. The aperture in the second blade member is a star-shaped polygon which defines a plurality of contact surfaces for engagement with the square shank portion of the carriage bolt. When the second blade member is positioned on the first blade member at the desired angular orientation relative thereto, it will resist rotation due to the interengagement of the apertures with the square shank portion of the carriage bolt.

  • Patent number: 5585124
Abstract: The present invention employs a main shaft cantilevered from a frame. A die holder is disposed around the outside of the shaft, and in the preferred embodiment rotates by the use of adjustable tapered roller bearings around the shaft. Fixed to the die holder is a die, and the die and die holder define a pelletizing chamber. The shaft supports a roller frame with a plurality of rollers within the pelletizing chamber. The resulting construction is a pelletizer shaft support structure that uses only a single set of bearings. In the preferred embodiment, the main shaft is comprised of an inner shaft and an outer shaft. The inner shaft is located coaxially within the outer shaft and supported within the outer shaft by static bushings. The roller frame and rollers are mounted to the inner shaft. The inner shaft and the outer shaft are both fixed to the frame structure.

  • Patent number: 5585917
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for determining whether kegs, which are to be cleaned and filled on a bottling plant production line, have physical distortions which may prevent cleaning and/or filling and/or emptying. The testing of the barrels is accomplished by capturing images of the ends and processing the data commensurate with the captured images to identify radial distortion. Axial distortion, which may accompany any radial distortion, is determined by measuring the distances between plural points on the keg and a reference plane to which the keg axis would, under normal conditions, be transverse.

  • Patent number: 5581812
Abstract: A leak proof materials handling glove that comprises a textile outer layer shaped to fit a hand. The outer layer is of a cut resistant material with good gripping ability on oily metal machine parts, preferably terry cloth cotton. The outer layer defines an interior and exterior surface. A liquid impermeable inner layer of a polymeric material impervious to attack from petroleum based products, such as PVC, is bonded to substantially the entire interior surface of the outer layer. The inner layer forms a continuous liquid-impermeable barrier to machine tool cutting fluids, protecting a wearer's hands from contact with the fluids.

  • Patent number: 5578221
Abstract: A fuel filter assembly employs a disposable filter cartridge disposed in a housing comprising a container and a cap. The cap comprises a cap member composed of elastomeric material, an externally projecting fuel outlet, and a centrally disposed axially extending conduit. A lower portion of the axial conduit is slidably received by an axial opening in a plate mounted on the top of the filter cartridge. The opening and conduit are dimensioned such that a gap between the opening and the conduit allows fluid flow through the plate. A spring biases the upper part of the cap member away from the filter cartridge. A fuel inlet in the container provides a path for the flow of fuel into the filter assembly. Spherical balls captured in the fuel inlet and fuel outlet act as check valves, preventing the flow out through the fuel inlet and in through the fuel outlet. The filter assembly is primed by pushing the cap member downwards, compressing the spring.

  • Patent number: 5575406
Abstract: A bulk-material silo has a silo draw-off opening which is located centrally in the ventilated silo base and is connected directly to an expansion chamber. The expansion chamber comprises two parts, the first of which leads outwardly in the manner of a duct from the silo draw-off opening towards and merging with the second part of the expansion chamber which is arranged outside the actual silo. Only said second part is configured with a sufficient height to permit the bulk material to fully expand during fluidization and with dust-extraction and draw-off devices. The air-extraction line from the upper silo space is fed, outside the silo, directly to the dust-extraction device.

  • Patent number: 5575220
Abstract: A gantry truck assembly for rolling on a rail (16) where the rail has a top rail surface (42) and a side rail surface (48). The truck has a wheel (38) for rolling on the top rail surface. A flange (44) extends radially from the wheel and can contact the side rail surface (42). A side roller (56) is rotatably mounted to a lever arm (54) and is biased by a spring (62) to a position closer to the side rail surface than is the wheel flange. When a force greater than a pre-set limit is placed on the roller by the rail, the lever arm can pivot to allow the wheel flange to contact the side rail surface.

  • Patent number: 5573671
Abstract: A biological purification process, a secondary treatment of partially cleaned waste water for example, is carried out in a porous bed of loose granules which float in the liquid. The granules are continuously washed to remove coagulated impurities by means of a small quantity thereof being entrained from the top of the bed in a small volumn flow of the effluent of the process, mixed with the inflowing impure liquid and then returned to the bottom of the bed. Excess reaction gas may also be delivered to the bed via the inflowing liquid and unreacted gas collected for reuse.

  • Patent number: 5572024
Abstract: The invention comprises a method and apparatus for inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry which is particularly suitable for the determination of isotopic ratios. In order to improve the precision of such determinations, the nozzle-skimmer type interface of the mass spectrometer is arranged so that the ratio ##EQU1## is greater than 0.8 mB.sup.1/2, where d.sub.s is the diameter of the orifice in the skimming member, s is the spacing between the sampling member and the skiming member, and p.sub.1 is the pressure in the region between the sampling and skimming members. Although use of the invention slightly reduces the efficiency of the interface it results in more accurate isotopic ratio determinations.
