  • Patent number: 4761066
Abstract: An optical system for producing stereoscopic imaging of a subject. The system includes an objective lens for producing an image of the subject, and right and left ocular lenses for viewing the image through right and left eyes, respectively. A polarizing filter device positioned near the objective lens divides the image produced by the objective lens into left and right perspective components characterized by different polarization directions. Right and left polarizing filters positioned near the right and left ocular lenses allow these right and left perspective components to be viewed exclusively through the right and left ocular lenses, respectively. One embodiment of the invention is a high-power stereoscopic microscope. Another embodiment is a single-objective binocular telescope.

  • Patent number: 4757639
Abstract: Animal traps are usually difficult to sterilize in order to remove human odor therefrom and difficult to hide when setting and often contain moving parts, tubes, pins and the like. The present device consists of a pair of spring arms made of heavy wire with a hairpin spring at the junction thereof. Eye loops are formed one on each distal end of the arms and one of these has a slotted semi-circular plate welded otherwise secured into the base of the eye. A freely running snare loop is provided on one end of a standing part, in which part extends through the slot in the disk or plate and through a cotter pin assembly spanning the other eye and terminates with a ferrule outboard of the other eye. A trigger block is secured to the standing part inboard of the slotted disk when the trap is set with the two arms close together and being urged apart by the spring.

  • Patent number: 4754125
Abstract: Apparatus for use in correlating actual tape play times, tape length, or predetermined tape program locations with tape-spool revolution values provided by a tape-revolution index counter in a tape machine. The calculator has a lower circular base plate and a smaller, upper circular plate which rotates concentrically with respect to the lower plate. The base plate carries a scale corresponding to tape-spool revolution values indicated by the machine, and one or more time scales relating tape spool revolution values to actual tape-play times, and/or to remaining play times or program locations. A ratio marker and time scale indicator are positioned on the upper member such that alignment of the ratio marker with a selected tape-revolution value on the base plate brings the time scale indicator into alignment with the corresponding playing-time value on the base plate.

  • Patent number: 4753246
Abstract: Method and apparatus for producing enhanced EEG or MEG information related to a selected brain activity in a subject. The apparatus includes a two-dimensional array of at least about 16 sensors for recording EEG or MEG traces from the subject. Control and test traces recorded before and during an interval in which the brain activity is occurring, respectively, are each decomposed into a series of basis functions which may be analytic components such as temporal frequency components, generated by spectral decomposition of an ensemble average of the recorded traces, or principal components determined by principal component analysis. The control and test traces are then represented as a sum of the products of the individual basis functions times a spatial domain matrix which represents the spatial pattern of amplitudes of that basis function, as measured by the individual sensors in the array.

  • Patent number: 4751292
Abstract: The present invention comprises novel adamantyl purine derivatives, in which the purine ring is substituted at the 6-position with a moiety incorporating an adamantane ring system. The purine may also be substituted at the 9-position with a carbohydrate, to give a nucleoside analog, or may be unsubstituted at that position. The substituent at the 6-position contains an adamantane ring system, either substituted or unsubstituted, in which a linker connects a carbon atom in the adamantane ring system with the 6-carbon of the purine ring. This linker consists of a combination of a heteroatom such as N, O or S, which is directly connected to the purine, and a short (five or less) atom chain, consisting either of carbon or other atoms such as N, O or S, with or without additional pendant moieties, which is connected either to the secondary or tertiary carbon of the adamantane ring system. The adamantane ring system itself may be unsubstituted, or substituted with a wide variety of non-ionic groups.

  • Patent number: 4751180
Abstract: Novel methods and compositions are provided for enhanced yield of heterologous proteins in fungi. The method and compositions involve employing fusion sequences involving a sequence encoding a heterologous product produced in relatively large amount as a stable polypeptide in the host fused to a second sequence in open reading frame with the prior sequence coding for a different heterologous polypeptide, where the two polypeptides are joined by a selectively cleavable linkage. In particular, a sequence coding for superoxide dismutase is joined to another polypeptide of interest at either terminus of the superoxide dismutase in a yeast expression vector under transcriptional control of an active promoter and the vector introduced into a yeast host and the host grown. High yields of the fusion product are obtained in this manner, where the fusion product can be selectively cleaved so as to produce both the superoxide dismutase and the other polypeptide in high yield. The S.

  • Patent number: 4750183
Abstract: An active layer for laser oscillation and optical guiding layers for guiding laser light sandwiching the active layer therebetween are included in the device. At least one of the optical guiding layers is formed by a superlattice, the optical refractive index of which is lower than that of the active layer. Further, the optical refractive index is gradually decreased in the direction from the portion of the optical guiding layer adjacent to the active layer, to the outside of the optical guiding layer.
