  • Patent number: 5140859
Abstract: A master transceiver and a slave transceiver are employed for providing an accurate measurement of the distance between two locations in which these transceivers are situated. A pulse signal is generated by the master transceiver, which requires a time period of t1 to travel to the slave transceiver. After a time delay of t2 upon the receipt of the pulse signal by the slave transceiver it transmits a response signal back to the master transceiver. The response signal requires the same time period of t1 to be received by the master trasnceiver. The total time involved is compared with a reference time to distance circuit in the master transceiver to determine the distance between the two units and the distance is shown on a digital display.

  • Patent number: 5100101
Abstract: The bidirectional rotation device comprises a direct current motor connected in series with a capacitor and a reversible switching means. When a direct current voltage is applied to the series-connected combination of direct current motor and capacitor through the switching means in one position, the charged capacitor causes the motor to rotate in one direction for a short period of time; and when the voltage is again applied to the combination in the reversed polarities, the reversely charged capacitor will cause the motor to rotate in the reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 5088037
Abstract: This rescue administration aid device is a portable unit which may be worn on a rescuer's wrist. It is operative in response to parameter entries by the rescuer according to the victim's condition to provide sequential procedural displays of medical standard rescue steps for assisting the rescuer in carrying out the correct rescue operation. The standard rescue procedure is stored in a microprocessor which, if necessary, can be re-programmed to update to a new rescue standard procedure. It includes a recall feature operative for reverse searching of any desired step in the display if the condition of the victim changes during the rescue operation. Additionally, distinct tone signals are emitted at selected steps of the rescue operation procedure to assist the rescuer in memorizing and conducting such steps in the rescue.

  • Patent number: 5033464
Abstract: The compact combination oral suction and scavenging apparatus can be operated simultaneously or separately for oral suctioning and expired anaesthetic gases scavenging of a patient under sedation. It includes a main shut off valve for turning the entire apparatus on or off, and a separate shut off valve which can be operated selectively to disable the scavenger portion of the apparatus. A safety relief valve prevents sub-atmospheric or excessively high pressures from building up in the apparatus to affect the normal breathing pattern of a patient. The expiratory valve of the scavenging assembly is housed in a disposable chamber having a disposable transparent snap-on dome shaped cover such that the expiratory valve can be readily monitored visually, and the cover can be easily and quickly removed for manual manipulation or adjustment of the expiratory valve by the anaesthetist.

  • Patent number: 5018964
Abstract: A remote-controlled system for igniting a gas barbeque unit and the like is shown. The system controls the gas flow to the pilot lighter and the burner of the barbeque unit, and generates a spark to ignite the pilot lighter and in turn the burner. The system will automatically shut off when the pilot lighter is accidentally extinguished so as to prevent gas leakage to cause any explosion. The system may be operated by a low voltage 9-volt battery.

  • Patent number: 5005239
Abstract: A system for securing a bed sheet to a waterbed is shown. The system consists of eight hook-shaped brackets and a flat sheet having resilient loops provided at its corners. A pair of the brackets are provided at each adjacent corners of the bed frame of the waterbed and positioned just above the mattress and below the rail caps. The sheet can be quickly and easily secured to the brackets by pushing the resilient loops of the sheet towards the bed frame corners until they engage with the associated brackets to secure the sheet in place over the mattress. The sheet is retained in place and it is independent of any inherent movements in the mattress during use.

  • Patent number: 4909227
Abstract: The fireplace has a coaxial vent directly venting the exhaust gas through its top. The fresh air is directed through an outer jacket of the coaxial vent to a chamber located between the firebox and the rear panel and enters into the lower portion of the firebox while the exhaust air is conducted through the inner coaxial duct, located inside the fresh air duct, to be released to the outdoor. Residual heat in the exhaust gas is inherently recycled by the fresh air being drawn into the fireplace to enhance combustion and to increase the efficiency for heating purposes.

  • Patent number: 4838240
Abstract: A gas burner assembly for a fireplace is shown. The assembly is operative to produce a flickering yellow flame pattern which closely resembles to that produced by a natural wood log fire, yet there is virtually no formation of carbon monoxide gas in the ignition. The assembly generally comprises four artificial logs arranged in a predetermined spaced relationship to a gas burner. The gas burner consists of a rectangular opened top casing having distribution means for emitting a gas and air mixture through its top. The artificial log comprises a flexible metal tube wrapped with a ceramic fibre blanked which is impregnated with a colloidal compound and thermally cured. The surface of the log is textured and painted to simulate the appearance of a natural wood log. Flame deflectors are provided either above or in the burner to baffle direct flame impingement on the logs so that the flames rise to a relatively high level above the logs to provide a full visibility of the flame in the fireplace.
