  • Patent number: 6021528
Abstract: A baseball chest protector includes a protector pad to which is united a chest protector harness. The chest protector harness includes a generally Y-shaped harness back portion defined by a juncture portion, a pair of upwardly diverging arms and a generally downwardly projecting leg formed as a single piece of injection-molded synthetic polymeric or copolymeric material. A lower harness portion or spine portion is also formed as a single injection-molded piece of synthetic polymeric or copolymeric material and is united by an adjusting buckle to the leg or first part of the upper back harness portion. Adjusting buckles also adjustably secure a pair of elastic webs to the arm portions of the Y-shaped harness back portion and the elastic webs are each in turn secured by two injection molded harness top tab portions to shoulder areas of the protector pad of the baseball chest protector.

  • Patent number: 6016016
Abstract: A voltage supply apparatus for providing a supply voltage for electric devices in an aeroplane cabin comprises a socket (22) to which the electric device is connectable by means of a plug (38). The socket (22) comprises plug detectors (45, 46) detecting the presence of the plug in the socket (22). A supply device (16) is arranged remotely from the socket (22) and is connected to the socket (22) via a signal line (18) and via a supply line (20) for the supply voltage. The supply device (16) applies the supply voltage to the socket (22) if the plug detectors (45, 46) indicate the presence of the plug (38) via the signal line (18) to the supply device. The supply lines (20) and the socket (22) are only alive if the insertion of a plug (38) has been detected. In this way, a danger to people due to manipulations on the socket or on the supply line is excluded.

  • Patent number: 6012674
Abstract: A sheet dispenser with a handheld support (10) and a sheet roll for painting and decorating work consists of a frame (10) surrounding the longitudinal circumference of the roll and comprising two rigid frontal walls (14, 15) with a supporting element (20, 30) each being arranged on the frontal walls (14, 15). The supporting elements (20, 30) are arranged axially opposite each other with the core of the sheet roll being clampable axially between them. At least one supporting element (30) is attached resiliently on the frame (10) in an axial direction by means of a spring element (22). Because of the resilient supporting element, a simple insertion and removal of a sheet roll is possible.

  • Patent number: 6009733
Abstract: A method of orienting cans on a continuously rotating machine, in which the machine has a plurality of rotating heads for can bodies (2), each of the heads having a sensor (9) for detecting the orientation of the can body. Each head comprises a mandrel (6), chuck (8) and can carrier (7). In one embodiment, the chuck and mandrel rotate at different speeds. The can body is generally held by the chuck but is transferred to the mandrel in order to impose the required orientation on the can body. In an alternative embodiment, each chuck is driven by an independent motor (15) and orientation is achieved by imposing a motion profile on the chuck to correct any error. An unique mark or series of marks is provided at or around a free edge of the can body so that the sensor can detect the orientation of the can body. Typically these marks are hidden in the finished product by a double seam which joins the can end to the can body.

  • Patent number: 6010489
Abstract: A male incontinence device has rails formed on its waistband, through which the ends of the leg straps can be looped and secured in a desired position by clips. At their front ends the straps are attached to a ring which forms part of the bib of the waistband. A grommet push fitted into the ring from the inside has inner and outer flanges at its ends. The outer flange serves for attachment of a urine collection cone, whereas the inner flange provides for attachment of a seal member. The seal member has a U-section periphery for engaging it over the inner flange of the grommet, and provides a thin, apertured membrane capable of forming a comfortable seal with the penis of the user.

  • Patent number: 5988178
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a nail tip sizing tool is performed by providing a handle with at least one slot and a set of artificial nail tips of different widths and lengths with each nail tip having a cuticle end and a tip end. The tip ends of at least selected ones of the nail tips are cut to establish a substantially uniform nail tip length as measured between the cuticle end and the cut tip end. The cut tip ends are then inserted equal distances into at least one slot of the handle such that the cuticle ends of the nail tips are substantially aligned and the nail tips are in adjacent side-by-side relationship in progressively nail tip width size. Since the nail tip sizing tool has nail tips identical to the nail tips stored in "tip boxes" of the operator, once sizing is performed, the selected artificial nail tip is identical to the sized artificial nail tip of the nail tip sizing tool.

  • Patent number: 5978992
Abstract: The invention is directed to a mattress retention bracket for an adjustable bed to prevent an associated mattress from sliding laterally thereon. The mattress retention bracket in a preferred embodiment of the invention is a generally U-shaped member defined by a bight portion and a pair of legs with each leg having first and second end portions normally offset from each other. Terminal ends of the legs are secured to an underside of a mattress supporting member and first end portions and a bight portion of the U-shaped member lie contiguous peripheral edges of the mattress supporting member and the mattress to prevent relative shifting therebetween as a user/patient ingresses or egresses the bed. In lieu of the latter, another mattress retention bracket is substantially of a T-shaped configuration defined by an arm and a depending leg with the leg having first and second end portions defining an angle generally normal therebetween.
