  • Patent number: 5979439
Abstract: A solar receiver (10; 110) for a solar thermal power plant comprises an elongated supply chamber (16; 118) for a heat carrier medium flowing in the supply chamber (16; 118) at a small loss of pressure, an elongated absorber (13; 113), the inlet areas (21; 119) thereof extending in a longitudinal direction and limiting the supply chamber (16; 118), and a drain chamber (18; 125) extending in a longitudinal direction and being contained in the supply chamber (16; 118) for the heated heat carrier medium and being limited by at least one outlet area (22; 124) extending in a longitudinal direction, the inlet area (21; 119) and the outlet area (22; 124) being offset against each other in a transverse direction. This is why the heat carrier medium flows in a transverse direction to the absorber (13; 113) so that the flow causing a loss of pressure is limited on a relatively short path and the heat carrier medium being heated flows towards the increasing intensity of incident radiation.

  • Patent number: 5967485
Abstract: The valve has a chamber (11) in a housing (10), wherein a valve seat (17) closed by a valve body (19) is arranged. The valve seat (17) is abruptly moved by an actuator (15), the valve body (19) not being able to follow due to its inertia and the valve seat (17) being opened a little. Thereafter, the valve body (19) hits a plunger (20) moved by the actuator (15) together with the valve seat (17). By this impact, the valve body (19) is moved fully off from the valve seat (17) so that the outflow opening (13) is cleared entirely. Then, the flow drives the valve body (19) back into the closed position. Using this valve, short switching periods with a large valve opening degree may be achieved.

  • Patent number: 5967430
Abstract: In order to reduce the conversion and cleaning effort between pre-dispersion by a dissolver (2) and fine dispersion by an agitating ball mill (3), it is proposed to combine both devices in a single container. The casing (31) of the agitating ball mill (3) is in the form of a toroidal annular channel with a central hole (34). The drive shaft (21) of the dissolver (2) runs through said central hole (34) in the agitating ball mill (3). Dispersion may take place in the dispersing device simultaneously or in succession. The agitating ball mill (3) is preferably lowered inside the container (1) along the common axis after a pre-determined time and caused to act on the substance to be dispersed (5).

  • Patent number: 5944643
Abstract: The machine tool comprises two headstocks (16,17), arranged on a support (10), which are movable independently of each other along their height and their longitudinal direction. A respective one (17) of the headstocks is active in the treatment of a workpiece attached on a workpiece carrier (20), while the other headstock (16) can be moved behind a tool magazine (24) for receiving a tool therefrom. While the one headstock is still working on the workpiece, the other headstock with the next tool can already be accelerated to the required working rotational speed and be advanced to the tool. Thus, the time required for exchange of tools is extremely shortened.

  • Patent number: 5942136
Abstract: A laser marking device for forming the pattern printed on a liquid crystal mask on the surface of an object. In the laser marking device, an input optical system (20) and an output optical system (30) are positioned on the input surface side of a reflective liquid crystal element (5) on which the laser beam (L) is made to fall through the input optical system (20). The angle of incident of the laser beam (L) on the input surface of the element (5) is approximately 90.degree.. The laser beam (L) reflected by the element (5) is directed to the object (15) through the optical system (30). A cooling means (17) which cools the element (5) is provided in contact with the surface of the element (5) opposite to the surface which the laser beam strikes. In such a way, the space for the optical systems (20) and (30) is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5933975
Abstract: An alignment tool is provided for aligning collecting plates of an electrostatic separator in substantially a common plane. The alignment tool includes a pair of elongated alignment members, at least one of which is of a convex configuration. The collecting plates, including any misaligned collecting plates, are sandwiched between the alignment members with the convex surface of one of the alignment members opposing the collecting plates. The convex member is then brought to a parallel position by forces applied to opposite ends thereof, and the alignment members are temporarily clamped in generally parallel relationship to each other which maintains the collecting plates aligned in a generally common plane. Thereafter, a rod of a permanent clamping mechanism having a plurality of loops is rested atop either of the alignment members and rotated to bring the loops into and through gaps between adjacent collecting plates.

  • Patent number: 5935504
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for adapting injection molding machines utilizing horizontally opening and closing molds and their opening and closing mechanisms to vertically opening and closing molds and their opening and closing mechanisms and vice versa. An injection molding machine might, for example, be utilized to inject hot synthetic resin substantially horizontally into a cavity between horizontally opening and closing molds associated with horizontally opening and closing mechanisms. This horizontal mold and its opening and closing mechanism is removed relative to the injection molding machine and substituted therefor is a vertically opening and closing mold and its associated vertically opening and closing mechanisms. The hot plastic material from the horizontal injection molding machine is initially constrained in movement horizontally but subsequently vertically into the cavity of the vertically opening mold.

  • Patent number: 5925247
Abstract: Membrane element consisting of carrier disk and membrane cushion for filtering and separating flowing media, especially in devices for filtering and separating fluids by membrane techniques. Aim of the membrane element according to the invention is the essential reduction of the losses of pressure inherent to the modules by eliminating the sharp redirections of the flow by the usual carrier disks and membrane cushions in plate modules. This is achieved by a circular guidance of the flow of the fluid to be separated between carrier disk and membrane cushion. The carrier disk according to the invention is provided with a slit-like passage so that, after a concentric, circular flow over the carrier disk and the corresponding membrane cushion, a guidance of the flow to the next carrier plate level with the correspondingly formed membrane cushion is made possible with minimal loss of pressure and almost without redirections.
