  • Patent number: 5962805
Abstract: A cartridge has a case comprising a body housed telescopically within a sleeve. The body encloses a main chamber which contains gas under pressure, and a valve mechanism for venting gas from the chamber into an expansion chamber. The pressure of the gas in the expansion chamber causes the body to move rearwardly relative to the sleeve to apply a force to the breech block of the weapon in which the cartridge is used, thereby to initiate the reloading cycle. Gas is vented from the expansion chamber to eject a projectile when a spigot projecting from the body is withdrawn from an aperture in the end wall of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5958175
Abstract: A machine for applying labels distributed uniformly on a strip to items which includes a swinging arm mounted on a support for engaging the items and a drum for driving the strip of labels. The drum is rotated incrementally by a drive mechanism and means are provided for controlling the drive mechanism and for detecting movement of the arm by engagement with an item. The means for detecting movement of the arm detect the initial movement of the arm to thereby initiate the means for controlling the drive mechanism to index the drum through one complete step thus advancing a label for application to the item.

  • Patent number: 5958159
Abstract: A process for the production of a superelastic material out of a nickel and titanium alloy, characterized by the fact that it consists in obtaining an ingot starting from a mixing of nickel and titanium consisting in 55.6%.+-.0.4% in weight of nickel and to proceed with a thermal treatment of martensite plaquettes generation by subjecting said ingot during 5 to 45 minutes to a temperature comprised between 480 and 520.degree. C. The process allows the obtaining of a truly superelastic material at room temperature.

  • Patent number: 5950407
Abstract: A method and harvesting apparatus for stacking cut sod wherein the cut sod is formed into rolls at a rolling station carried by a machine and wherein alternating first and second series of rolls are conveyed in a first direction relative to a stacking station so as to form in the stacking station alternating first and second layers of rolls which are oriented generally perpendicularly to one another and wherein the rolls in each layer are oriented generally parallel with respect to one another. The second series of rolls are partially rotated approximately 90.degree. as they are conveyed to the stacking station so the second series of rolls are oriented generally perpendicularly with respect to the first series rolls. The apparatus also includes a wrapping device which is movable with respect to the stacking station so as to be maneuverable about the layers of sod rolls which are formed within the stacking station.

  • Patent number: 5950270
Abstract: The invention is a single-wheel floor-polishing machine provided with drive wheel comprising two coaxial, opposite cup-shaped elements connected with each other by means of one or more traction elastic elements suitable for raising the polishing wheel from the floor. The upper cup is mechanically connected with the electric motor and the lower cup is connected with the rigid rotary plate that supports the polishing wheel. The polishing wheel rotation generates a centrifugal air vortex under the polishing wheel itself, which results in the formation of an area below normal atmospheric pressure, as a consequence of which the polishing wheel is attracted to the floor. In the starting phase the polishing wheel is raised from the ground and free to rotate; the polishing wheel does not overheat because the pressure is automatically regulated according to the polishing wheel rotation speed, to the type of floor and to the elasticity of the traction springs.
