  • Patent number: 5456320
Abstract: A casing seal and casing spool for providing a high pressure seal of the casing pipe of a well during fracturing operations. The casing seal includes a sleeve, a pressure-reactive ring seal, a retainer ring, a split ring and a lock ring. The sleeve has a center bore and a counter bore which is shaped to fit the end of a casing pipe. The retainer ring has an upper recess to accommodate deformation of the ring seal as the ring seal reacts to high pressure. Assembled from four split ring members, the split ring has an upper lip for insertion into an annular groove in a bore and a lower ring recess to accommodate the lock ring. The lock ring is secured in the ring recess of the split ring with threaded fasteners. The casing spool includes an upper flange, a lower flange, a center bore extending between the flanges, an upper counter bore and a lower counter bore.

  • Patent number: 5456840
Abstract: A method for removing anions from water is provided. A complexing agent, such as a cationic polyelectrolyte, is added to untreated water. The cationic polyelectrolyte complexes with anions, such as chromate, and the complex if filtered out of the water. The complex is then treated with a regeneration agent, such as barium chloride or lead chloride to precipitate ions and to regenerate the complexing agent. The regenerated complexing agent can be reused for water treatment.

  • Patent number: 5456056
Abstract: A method for wrapping a floral grouping wherein a plurality of sheets of material are connected into a pad of sheets of material. The pad has a top sheet of material with the other sheets of material being disposed under the top sheet of material. The floral grouping is placed on the top sheet of material. The top sheet of material is wrapped about a portion of the floral grouping and the top sheet of material and the floral grouping are rolled to wrap the floral grouping in the top sheet of material and simultaneously disconnect the top sheet of material from the pad. The sheets of material are secured about the floral grouping in a wrapped position by an adhesive or cohesive on the sheets of material and the sheets of material are secured in the form of the pad by the adhesive or cohesive materials on the sheet.

  • Patent number: 5454419
Abstract: A method of lining a casing affixed in a well bore for repairing breaches in the casing with a continuous string of tubular polymeric material is provided. The tubular polymeric material has an outer diameter greater than the inner diameter of the casing. The outer diameter of the tubular polymeric material is reduced and such reduced material is injected into casing such that the polyethylene pipe remains in a reduced state until the polyethylene pipe is run to a preselected depth. After the polyethylene pipe is run to the desired depth, the reduced pipe is allowed to rebound thereby forming a fluid tight seal with the casing and effectively sealing any breaches in the casing.

  • Patent number: 5455021
Abstract: An isotopic tracer composition and methods of making and using same for radiological evaluation of body functions and diseases in a subject and for radiological therapy. The isotopic tracer composition comprises a protein carrier agent such as fibrinogen, antibodies, enzymes or portions thereof, bound to a radioisotope which has been reduced to a lower oxidation state by stannous phosphate at a pH of greater than 7. Some suitable radioisotopes are isotopes of technetium, rhenium and ruthenium.

  • Patent number: 5453226
Abstract: The present invention is a method for controlling the curing process of a composite material part in a curing vessel such as an autoclave. The method relies on the comparison of actual part parameter values to predicted part parameter values wherein the predicted values are obtained from computer simulations of the cure cycles using convective heat transfer, thermo-chemical, cure kinetics, resin flow and viscosity analytic models. The invention provides a methodology for the continuous selection and updating during the cure process of new optimal cure cycles from sets of cure cycles in response to actual material behavior during the curing process. An extended heat transfer model coupled to the thermo-chemical model accounts for convective heat transfer within curing vessel during the curing process.

  • Patent number: 5454002
Abstract: A semiconductor laser device, and method for making such, having higher operating temperatures than previously available. A semiconductor epitaxial layer is bonding to a cleaving assembly which allows the epitaxial layer to be manipulated without use of traditional substrate forms. The resulting semiconductor laser is bonded to a metal portion which serves as a heat sink for dissipating heat from the active lasing region. The resulting semiconductor lasers can be cooled by thermoelectric cooling modules, thus eliminating the necessity of using more bulky cryogenic systems.

  • Patent number: 5452966
Abstract: A paving machine having a gate control system for maintaining a target depth of paving material on the surface to be paved. The paving machine includes a wheeled frame having a lengthwise tunnel and a conveyor for moving paving material through the tunnel. A pair of gates are provided to control the volume of paving material being conveyed from the rear of the tunnel. The position of each gate is automatically adjusted by a hydraulic cylinder, a control valve, an electro-hydraulic control system, an ultrasonic sensor assembly and a cable assembly. Each sensor assembly includes a sensor which is positioned to define a target distance between the sensor and the paving material. The target distance corresponds to the target depth for the paving material. The sensor detects the actual distance between the sensor and the paving material and produces an electrical output proportional to this actual distance.
