  • Patent number: 5136866
Abstract: In a non-slip rectilinear wiredrawing machine with tangentially uncoiling pstans, each capstan is composed of two concentric and coaxial parts, the first of which driven by a motor and comprising the typical capstan pulling face, the second part a freely-revolving ring affording a run-out from which the wire is drawn through a die by and onto a successive capstan; the speed of the individual capstans is synchronized by a device capable of monitoring both the angular movement of the shaft driving the first part of the capstan and the angular movement of the ring, detecting any difference between the two, and correcting the angular velocity of the shaft accordingly.

  • Patent number: 5129211
Abstract: A number of pack units (3; 3.sup.1), such as rolls of soft tissue paper or packs of nappies, etc., which are enclosed by a banderole-like pack sleeve (2). The invention enables a pack to be produced which is well suited to efficient manufacture and which is also suitable for simple and safe handling, both in the production channel and in the consumer channel. In the area outside pairs of pack units (3; 3.sup.1) situated adjacent to one another, said pack sleeve (2) is attached to a holding device (4) running in an essentially straight path between the pack units (3; 3.sup.1). The invention also relates to a method for the manufacture of pack of this kind, and to an arrangement for the production of a pack of this kind.

  • Patent number: 5125579
Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a thin, close curtain of liquid, for instance in fire-fighting. According to the invention, this is achieved by use of a nozzle having a central control body which is movable within an outer sleeve, both the control body and the outer sleeve having gently tapering wall portions facing each other. The gently tapering portion of the control body merges smoothly into the rear side of a disc-shaped end portion provided thereon, such that the liquid, in a thin layer, will follow the central control body and be deflected into a substantially radial direction relative to the nozzle so as to form a liquid curtain directed transversely in relation to the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5119600
Abstract: A deburring robot acts in accordance with the size of the pipe, the upset shape, and information about the position of burrs. A deburring grinder removes burrs with a whetstone along the surface of the upset pipe as sensed by a copying claw. Wear on the whetstone is compensated after a predetermined amount of use. When the whetstone reaches its wear limit, the overall body of the deburring grinder or only the whetstone is exchanged.

  • Patent number: 5117897
Abstract: A vehicle of the invention comprises at least two transfer arms including means for causing expansible positioning fingers to penetrate into the tubes of a steam generator and for extracting said fingers from said tubes. The vehicle also includes at least two pivoting fastening heads which contain said expansible positioning fingers. The heads are interconnected by one of the telescopic transfer arms, which arms extend perpendicularly to said pivoting heads. The other telescopic transfer arm is fixed to one of the heads and it extends perpendicularly therefrom with its opposite end carrying a tool support. Such a vehicle is particularly suitable for inspecting and maintaining tubes in tube apparatuses, e.g. the steam generators of pressurized water nuclear reactors.

  • Patent number: 5118076
Abstract: An electromagnetically operable fluid control valve includes a valve member slidable in a bore in a valve body. Resilient means biases the valve member to the open position and an actuator including an armature when energized moves the valve member to the closed position. Stop means formed by a part movable with the armature engages the valve body to limit the movement of the armature and valve member when the actuator is de-energized. Damping means formed by a liquid filled recess in the part acts to damp the aforesaid movement.

  • Patent number: 5110053
Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle has a body in which is formed a bore at one end of which is a seating. Outlet orifices extend from the bore and located in the bore is a valve member shaped at one end to engage the seating and spring biased into engagement with the seating to prevent fuel flow through the orifices. The initial movement of the valve member away from the seating is limited and during this limited movement the fuel flow through the orifices is limited by an annular clearance defined by axially extending cylindrical surfaces formed by the wall of the bore and the valve member.

  • Patent number: 5108440
Abstract: A shoulder implant for correcting a recurrent shoulder dislocation comprises a one-piece metal member at least part of which is open-celled in nature to simulate spongiosa of a bone. The use of the shoulder implant makes it possible to dispense with the removal of an implant of bone from the tibia or the pelvis which has been customary hitherto. Moreover, the intrinsic mechanical strength of the shoulder implant is responsible for a considerable reduction in the length of post-operative treatment. The open-celled nature of at least part of the shoulder implant in imitation of the spongiosa makes it possible for the bony matter of the scapula to anchor itself biologically in the implant, thus preventing the implant from coming loose.

  • Patent number: 5106411
Abstract: A method of removing non-metallic inclusions from a molten metal by allowing the molten metal to pass through at least first and second vessels which are intermediate between a ladle and a mold. The molten metal is made to stay in the vessel for a period not shorter than 40 seconds while a horizontal rotation is imparted to the molten metal in the first vessel. The molten metal is then transferred from the first vessel to the second vessel. The molten metal in the second vessel is then heated. This method is suitably carried out by an apparatus comprising a first vessel having a discharge opening at its bottom and surrounded by a rotational magnetic field generating device for centrifugation of the molten metal in the first vessel, and a second vessel for receiving the molten metal discharged from the first vessel and provided with a heating device for heating the molten metal received therein.
