  • Patent number: 5218851
Abstract: A mandrel mill for rolling a tubing in a pass between a mandrel bar and a plurality of serially arranged roll stands. Each roll stand has a plurality of pairs of grooved rolls whose grooves are paired to define a part of the pass. The grooves of the rolls of a first roll stand define a hole having a circumference of not more than 1.12 times the outer circumference of a tubing at the exit of the final roll stand. The grooves of the second-stand rolls define a hole having a circumference of not more than 1.06 times that outer circumference, and those of the third-stand rolls define a hole having a circumference of not more than 1.02 times that outer circumference. Thus, the mandrel mill is capable of preventing stripping miss even when the billet is of a high-alloy steel.

  • Patent number: 5207777
Abstract: A method of guiding and transferring a rapidly quenched metallic tape includes steps of peeling the rapidly quenched metallic tape produced by solidification through rapid quenching on a circumferential surface of a single cooling roll rotating at a high speed, introducing the metallic tape into a cylindrical transfer guide to a pinch roll unit arranged at a terminal end of the transfer guide to catch the metallic tape by the pinch roll unit, and moving the pinch roll unit to a winder for the metal tape. The metallic tape is fed in the transfer guide substantially without being in contact with the transfer guide.

  • Patent number: 5205724
Abstract: Revolving piston compressor, which consists of two hollow rings when joined, form a tunnel or "sleeve" within which a curved piston circulates. A transversely disposed disc turns in synchronized fashion with the piston to form a wall which prevents the gas acted upon by the piston from travelling around through the sleeve. As the piston approaches the disc, the disc presents a "window", which allows the piston to pass. Once the piston has passed, the disc again forms a wall, closing the compression cycle. Because the piston cannot be physically engaged from the outside, it is moved via a moving magnet.

  • Patent number: 5204000
Abstract: The disclosure describes a tank for separating water and hydrocarbon fuels from contaminated water which comprises an elongated vessel having, at one end thereof, an inlet for delivering contaminated water into the vessel. A distribution baffle is mounted at this end of the vessel for directing the incoming flow of contaminated water into multiple streams thereby reducing the incoming turbulent flow into a laminar flow whereby water is directed towards the opposite end of the vessel in an unobstructed manner so that light hydrocarbon fuel droplets may be allowed to rise and be collected on the surface of the water. A outlet piping is providing at the opposite end of the vessel for discharging water free of hydrocarbon fuels.

  • Patent number: 5202596
Abstract: The electric motor is provided with an attached frequency converter for rotational speed control. The frequency converter consists of a power supply and other electronic elements. While these electronic elements are arranged as a constructive unit with the electric motor, the power supply is arranged as an individual constructive unit separated from the motor, in the form of a module. The module can be made separately from the motor and electrically connected to the motor constructive unit through a connective cable. The use of the motor is no longer dependent on cooling radiators, required for the cooling of the power supply, as only the module is now fitted with cooling radiators.

  • Patent number: 5199607
Abstract: A liquid dispensing apparatus comprises a syringe containing liquid to be dispensed and an air supply for supplying compressed air to the syringe. The syringe is connected to the compressed air supply via a discharging solenoid valve by means of a pipe line which is provided with an accumulator so as to prevent disturbance of stand-up of the pressure in the syringe to thereby effect a highly accurate quantitative discharge of liquid from the syringe independent of whether a quantity of liquid remaining in the syringe is much or less. The apparatus further comprises an air suction connected to the discharge solenoid valve by means of an additional pipe line provided with an accumulator to prevent liquid from dropping out of the syringe after the end of discharge of liquid.

  • Patent number: 5181616
Abstract: A grain processor for separating and measuring components of a sample of grain as it passes through a rotary sieve having two or more sieving sections having different perforations. The separated particles in each of the sieving sections are passed through a densimetric column containing a stream of pressure-adjustable air generated by a blower to remove impurities from the separated grain which is channeled into a weighing hopper which measures the weight of the grain or impurities and registers the information in a unit provided with data processing and recording circuits, including a microprocessor. Tachometers provide rotational speed pulses to rotation control circuits in the unit which provides an input to motor controllers associated with the motors driving the fans and the rotary sieve. Each of the rotation control circuits is provided with a motor-driven potentiometer coupled to an optical coded disc which provides an output to adjacently-positioned optical heads providing an input into the unit.

  • Patent number: 5182091
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for purifying silicon, which are suitable for economical and mass production of high-purity silicon for solar cells from regular-grade silicon containing boron and carbon in large quantities. The method comprises directing a plasma jet stream of an inert gas toward the surface of molten silicon held in a container lined with silica or a silica-based refractory. For improved purification, the inert gas as the plasma gas is mixed with 0.1-10 vol % steam and/or less than 1 g of silica powder per liter of the inert gas at normal state. Alternatively, the container may have a bottom opening and is provided with an electrode having a cooling means underneath the bottom of the container, with the electrode and the cathode of the plasma torch connected to a power source for plasma generation, so that the plasma jet and electron beam are directed toward the surface of molten silicon.

  • Patent number: 5176070
Abstract: In a machine for stuffing olives automatically with meat paste, olives are transferred from a serial infeed station to a runout station, at which the stuffed end product emerges, by way of a transfer station that comprises an indexing conveyor with peripheral contoured pockets interconnected by a profiled channel; the channel freely accommodates a fixed knife by which the top part of each olive is cut at a station between the infeed and runout stations, and a divaricator serving to spread the sides of the cut olive and thus create an opening into which the meat paste can be forced by an injector supplied from a relative feeder station. Advantageously, the infeed and runout stations, the conveyor and the feeder station are mechanically interconnected and driven synchronously by a single power transmission system.

  • Patent number: 5176021
Abstract: In the method proposed a peripheral wall with at least one axial section of high shaping and fitting accuracy is made by forming an initial blank. This accuracy is achieved, in that before the peripheral wall is formed, sheet material which has been put into a plastic state is swaged in places round the periphery, then the swaged locations are sized, and/or in that during or after the formation of the peripheral wall, the wall is shaped by stamping in a plurality of places along its periphery, whereby the said zone providing shaping and fitting accuracy is formed from fitting areas at at least one side of the peripheral wall in the region of the swaged and/or stamped locations. An apparatus for carrying out such a method is generally in the form of a drawing machine, wherein the holder and/or the bottom die contain radial apertures, which open into the inner edge of the holder and/or into the shaping cavity of the die, and which are arranged at intervals round the periphery.
